Its not an arcade style fighting game, in a different genre Anyways Fatal Furywhat genre is it then? just cause it isn't traditional arcade doesn't mean it's not a fighter

No smash brothers?

Not a fighter.
Gamespot, IGN, Gamerankings, Gametrailers and several other proffesional and respected publications including the developers beg to differ, because they all classify it as a fighting game.

Not a fighter.
Provide reasons.
Ok, here's my thoughts:
While in SB you get to fight other character/players, it changes the traditional formula too much with the option of more than 2 fighters on screen, whereas traditional fighting games are 1 on 1.
I even seem to remember it was labeled as a "brawler" at some point.

Its still a fighter. Just because its different from a standard fighting game doesnt mean its in a different genre. And its this difference that makes the Smash Bros series so popular. Rather then use the redundant and generic formula that virtually every fighter uses, Smash Bros dares to be different.

"Anything can happen in this action packed FIGHTING GAME as you square of with tons of characters from link to pikachu" that was on the back of the box. RIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE BOX

I like the VS games, can't wait for Tatsunoko VS Capcom to come out in the US (when is that supposed to come out anyway)?
I'd also like to see what Aksys does with BlazBlue.
[QUOTE="PSdual_wielder"]http://evo2k.com/?m=200808 Samsh was there in august 08 and many times before that.Too bad smash brothers wasn't at EVO, not just this year but every event in the past.

In SSB you can fight 1vs1 on a flat plane, but since you have the options to do so much more it's not a fighter?
........
I dont know why everyone always trys to turn these threads into "brawl vs all" thread. Its not the same type of game. I fight in Halo, does that make it a fighting game?unknown37
*facepalm* how hard is it to admit that smash bros is a fighting series?

Well, now that I think about it... wasn't there a GG with this option as well??
But to answer your question... no lol :P

In Halo the main premise is shooting in the first person, therefore it is an FPS. I could just as well ask that since you shoot things in Smash Bros (super scope, ray gun, projectiles etc) does that make it a shooting game?
You haven't even provided any reasons as to why its not a fighting series.

"The craziest four-player fighting game of all time returns for a frantic, fun-filled nintendo gamecube melee!"(SSBM box art)
"Anything can happen in this action-packed fighting game as you square off with tons of characters from Link to Pikachu" (Brawl boxart)
yeah it is TOTALY NOT a fighting game at all
Why on earth is mortal kombat a contender in all of these lists? There was only ONE good mortal kombat game that was actually a good fighter, all the rest were just cheesy horrible gimmicky bloodfests
Smash Bros.: It isn't a fighting game because it isn't. (And because it would win in all of these threads.) ;)
Try harder, guys.

that however is true :P
Went with Tekken. I think Street Fighter is a bit stale and relies on established fans and nostalgia for its current top fighter position. Zangief and Sagat are ridiculusly IMBA on SF4 Damage, Health, Ultras, Speacils, it gets a bit tired when the fool Devs dont even bother to correct blatant imbalances.I think Tekken by far. Has the most creativity and the characters actually have stories.

Tekken. Street Fighter is way too simplistic. I expect more out of my fighting games nowadays. And I hate all of these Super Smash Bros. fanboys. Sure it's a fun game and all, but it is not deep in anyway. And playing the game on a flat plain with all items disable is NOT the way to play it. The fun in the game comes from the varied environments and item strategies, not using one cheesy strategy the entire fight.
