1. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions - PSP
2. Final Fantasy Tactics - PSX
3. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - GBA
Tactics on PS. Dont know why I prefer it over VII even though I spent more time with VII. And Ramza looks like a girl.
For PS1: Final Fantasy VIII
For PS2: Final Fantasy X
For PSP: Final Fantasy Tactics: WoTL
For DS: Will be Final Fantasy IV later this year. :P
Final Fantasy 6 and 7 are possibly some of the most overrated JRPGs ever. Ironically 6 was my introduction into the series.
Final Fantasy 6 and 7 are seriously not as good as people say they are.
Best Final Fantasy is Tactics. Its shakespeare compared to rest of the games.

My intro to Tactics was playing the game on a borrowed PS1 where I didn't even have a memory card for it, so wasn't able to save.. it was still completely awesome, even then.
Here is how I rank them based on what I've played:
Final Fantasy 9
Final Fantasy 10
Final Fantasy 8
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy 3
I'm the only person on earth who thinks the series is actually getting better over time. :D
BTW I am probably bias because FF9 was the first one I played. :P

ive played almost all ,thru emulator on my PC , and 7-8-9 at PSone and goes on.
FF7 is by far the best FF ever made , and imo , none will surpass it easily, story wise , or whole mechanic wise.A masterpiece
My order would go:
1) Final Fantasy VII
2) Final Fantasy VIII
3) Final Fantasy IX
4) Final Fantasy XII
5) Final Fantasy X
6) Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
7) Final Fantasy X-2
I've played 9, 10, 10-2, and 12. My favorites were 9 and 10, but 10 takes the cake. Tidus was annoying as hell though, that's one thing I hated. Haven't played anything older than 9, and I don't know if I want to because it all looks pretty dated and doesn't look like it's aged very well.Zaeryn
You'd be surprised how well the gameplay for both VII and VIII have held up - and don't forget VIII is only 2 years before IX. A lot of people to this day still say VII's materia system beats anything in 9 or 10, and VIII's junctioning system, whilst complicated, is one of the more malleable and customisable of any Final Fantasy.
VII is looking very dated now graphically, but hey, it's gameplay that counts (and it still boasts an exceptional score and story), and graphically VIII IMO holds up to IX quite favourably.

FFVII and FFT are my favorite.
FFVIII and FFXII are horrible.
I don't think of FFXI or FFX-2 as real FFs
FFX was good, it has a horrible protgonist an is incredibly linear (where is the world map ?!?!) but overall it's a great game. (Auron makes up for Tidus' failures)
