Stalker is the singleplayer FPS of the generation.

MP is arguable. TF2 is awesome, but so is Halo 3.

I don't think I've played a FPS this gen. Unless you are going to count something like F.E.A.R., Half-life 2: Episode 2, or Portal.

As odd as it seems, I'm not the biggest BioShock fan. :P

I mean, the game is great. It's fantastic, even. But not my favorite. I made my account before the game was out, and to that point, it was my most anticipated first-person game of the generation. It turned out as good as I had hoped, but in the process, others turned out even better, imo (ie. Episode 2).

Nah, I'd also have to give it to STALKER. Crysis is also up there..I'd actually put it well ahead of Bioshock.

If we're talking about multiplayer, TF2 is top dog imo.

My vote went to Halo 3. Online co-op through the campaign. Skulls and Campaign scoring. Near-infinite options in adversarial multiplayer. Forge. Theater. Community sharing. It just gives the player so much to do.

Ah, I just figured you were some one who would vote for everything Bioshock all the time going by the screen name you use. But guess we learn something new everyday. Episode 2 is the better FPS, though not by leagues. :D

Halo 3 is best online this gen by far, but I'd vote Half Life 2 for best single player this gen, but since it's not up there.

from that poll imo crysis but imo stalker shadow of chernobyl is the best fps by far this gen. The atmosphere the story the great graphics ( with the right mod ), the excellent art style the interesting gameplay mechanics ( fuses rpg elements into an fps with a rather interesting way), the great gunplay, the open world environment and the amazing sounds all blend together to make one of the best and most immersive fps experience since the original half life

For the whole, total package, I'd have to go with Halo 3. Great singleplayer and even better multiplayer. CoD4 has an excellent MP but SP...eh, not so much. And as much as I loved Bioshock, it started to get a little repetitive and tedious towards the end for me. It could have been 2 or so hours shorter and been a much better paced experience.

I find TF2 to be a little overrated. Yea it's pretty fun but not on the level I would think looking at posts on these forums. I guess I just prefer the Halo type multiplayer where everyone starts the game equal and not certain roles and what not.

jettpack

In Stalker's case, the bugs were entirely superficial. The gameplay was never hurt because of them, or at least in the patched version I played. I guess Bioshock and Stalker have different visions. Both call themseles hybrids. But Bioshock's focus is on presentation and on storytelling. Stalker's focus is on depth and complexity. Both games have incredible atmosphere. But I never felt truly immersed in Bioshock's world. It felt to linear. It felt too much like a videogame. Whereas in Stalker's world, I was not having my hand held, I was a man simply trying to survive. In that sense, I feel that Stalker is much better. I never truly felt in danger in the world of rapture. Even with the vita chambers off, I was, in Yahtzee's words, practically tripping over ammo and medkits. There were battles in Stalker that I actually had to run away from because I was too inequipped. And plus, unlike Bioshock, Stalker gave me dreams. That's how immersive it was.
