Crysis..
..lol jkjk... I dont know what the best game ever is, but my favorites are Riven, Perfect Dark, and Operation Flashpoint.
the best game has got to be Starcraft and its expansion Brood War
almost 10 years later the game is still amazingly fun and intense online, has a great storyline and campaign, and just overall has stood the test of time better than any other game imo
Edit: Ocarina of Time, Diablo, Halo: CE, Alpha Centauri, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence are worthy of mention though not as good as Starcraft
Noitced some of you are picking the classics, but be honest, would you rather play a classic than one of these next-gen games. Sure that game was the best in it's time period, but there is no way you can compare it to today's games.retrib
That's always very confuzzling. You either pick the greatest game of all time based on the experience You had with it or how fun it would be now. I was under the impression he was asking for the greatest game ever based on the experience had.
Half Life 2 and Earthbound are tied for story and experience for me.
For gameplay Ive probably had the most fun with something simple like Tetris or any good sidescroller
The games ive played the most of of course are defently WoW and Oblivion
So in all its hard to say what i think the Best game ever is, because there are too many genres and categories.
Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer, and I would take it over every other 3D platformer any day of the week.
World of Warcraft
i dont have it because well i like my soul, however i played the 10 day thing, and it was osm
and no1 else will prople say this because all the fans are on it right now

Why not? Most games today just aren't as deep or complex as these classics.
I mean, can you name a recent strategy game as deep as X-Com, a recent shooter as deep as System Shock 2 or Deus Ex, a recent RPG as deep as Ultima VII, a recent 2D platformer as good as Super Metroid, or a recent stealth game as deep as Thief: The Dark Project? Probably not.
'Next-gen game' generally just means 'next-gen graphics' - they aren't necessarily improving the actual gameplay of these games.
Anyway, I'd say Planescape: Torment for the story, and...hmm...probably Thief for its gameplay.
