If we are exclusively looking at '08 releases then it is Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts without a doubt on my end.
But if we are allowed to state our choice from a game that came out previously but I didn't play until this year I would personally go with World of Warcraft.
Both are amazing though.

ill say this, it is the most beautiful looking game of the year. but as a really old banjo fan the demo let me down due to well.... its not like it use to be. but ive got over that and im getting it for christmas and i cant wait.

I can personally vouch that the demo is a poor representation of the entire product. While I understand that you may not like the new design philosophy, the gameplay on its own merits is FANTASTIC with a wider array of parts in your garage. The only jarring part is the on ground physics when controlling a land based vehicle but if you adjust to the quirks that problem dissipates as well. So if you go in with an open mind, you should be satisfied with what is presented.
