Best launch game of all time?

Note that it doesn't have to be exclusive.

I'm going to go with Twilight Princess. It felt like Ocarina of Time fell into a time portal and was modernized, which was good enough for me. It's absolutely beautiful, but there are some flaws to it, and I wish that the Wii Remote was utilized more. The wolf aspect didn't seem to be fully realized and the bosses were too easy, also. Despite some boring moments and a rather disappointing storyline, Twilight Princess managed to deliver cleverly designed puzzles, awesome items, amazing music, and everything else you'd expect from a Zelda game.

SM64 pretty much carried the entire N64 launch, yet I happen to love Halo and Twilight Princess. :?

Goldeneye came out in 1997 and Zelda OoT in 1998.

N64 came out in 1996.

I was thinking of putting it on there, but I couldn't decide what to take off, so I just left it how it was. Soul Calibur would've been the sixth option if there were six options.

super mario 64 followed by halo.

In all honestly, Soul Calibur was only an enhanced port of an already 1+ year old game. And was only a launch game in the US. As it wans't a Japanese launch game, but was released before the US release.

I think a game that truly was born with a console would be more significative.

In that case it's clearly Gundam: Crossfire for the PS3.

But seriously its one of the Marios. Each one was a new milestone in gaming.

I agree, but the problem is that the system died. So although SC was a classic, it couldn't carry the system.

Now, Halo is a different story, and I don't even like Halo.

Yet, I realize that if it weren't for Halo, Xbox would have Dreamcasted and there would be no Xbox 360.

I was working part-time at a large electronics chain around that period, and about 7 of 10 of Xboxes sold were sold with Halo.

my vote goes for halo.

close contenders have to be goldeneye for n64 and wii sports for wii imo.

how can they not? from my perspective it seemed a lot of ppl who bought a wii during launch ended up getting it due to zelda tp.

Honestly, this just sounds like a totally ignorant comment.

When you make a launch game, you want something to sell consoles. Zelda is the perfect example of that. It's like Sony releasing MGS at launch, or MS releasing Halo at launch. How can you not recognize this?
