If you browse in the Off-Topic section, you will find a few threads asking for forum goers' opinion about which movie line do they think is the best of all time.

Hence, I figured that it would make a nice topic if I asked the same question, but for video games, to the denizens here.

Please understand that this thread is not asking you to tell which game has the best writing ever; it is about which line is the best in video games.

What does that suppose to mean ? It means if you post a line, do so by writing down to which game it belongs.

Some games might have terrible "overall" writing; but it should not be surprising if those games have some of the best lines ever.

As for me, the best line is, without spoiling it, from Planescape: Torment final conversation. It's the longest option among few dialog choices given to us as an answer to the final boss' question. But of course this not astonishing as PT indeed has the best writing among video games as for now.

Another line is from yet another well-written game; Deus Ex. It's in the conversation that most players might miss during their first playthrough. It is not a compulsory one, but it is the best in the game. To hint you, the conversation is with a prototype A.I programmed by Morgan Everett and is located in a locked room.

What about you?

Oh, I bet these games are influenced by Vanquish too; in terms of awesome lines.

Nobody mentioned the copyright infringement scene yet in sonic colors.

Here's the line anyway

No copyright law in the universe will stop me.This line spawned loads of youtube videos making fun of youtube.

Like the question, "what's your favorite game or movie?" it can change daily. But I love the line: "Thought I'd try shooting my way out. Mix things up a little."- Master Chief, Halo 3.

This thread is nothing without the obligitary GLaDOS quote: 'When I said "deadly neurotoxin," the "deadly" was in massive sarcasm quotes. I could take a bath in this stuff. Put in on cereal, rub it right into my eyes. Honestly, it's not deadly at all... to *me.* You, on the other hand, are going to find its deadliness... a lot less funny.'

There are countless amazing quotes in Borderlands. Scooter in particular has some great lines.

"Lucky's an old buddy of mine - and by old buddy I mean a**hole that ruined my momma's girl parts. Sounds like he's in trouble so you go on ahead and try and keep him alive long enough so I can kill him at a later occasion."

That game is not really a video game, but it is a video game paradoy that makes fun of the COD franchise mostly with a few exceptions(especially MW2).There were loads of other funny lines in that gamelike that last rank level message, the enemy that said that you couldn't stop him unless the game was in slow motion, when the soilder gets knocked out by the same guy's vehicle and he is dying. The USA is dominating line said by the evil bad guybefore he starts crying and the soilder has fireworks coming out of his arms is pretty funny too.

Don't know about the best, but I do know which one is the worst (little spoiler):

"Please don't tell me you're still brainwashed!" - BlackOps.

Like "Yeah I'm brainwashed to kill you AND TELL YOU I'M F*****G BRAINWASHED AND GOING TO KILL YOU".

The guy who wrote that should be dead.

Worst line ever.

I really dislike Scooter, but his lines are amazing.

I still remember the one "yeah I killed it, don't act like you didn't know" when talking about his dog I think. I know that I laugh at that moment >P

BioShock had some amazingly acted and written dialog. Andrew Ryan's introductory speech when you're on your way to Rapture is awesome and sets the stage for the things to come.

Brian Cox's speech from the opening cinematic of Killzone 2 is the epitome of a charismatic dictator got me amped up for the visceral war game that followed.

As far as comedic stuff goes, a lot of Jack Black's lines as Eddie in Brutal Legend were funny as well as some of the random dialog in DeathSpank.

Dat was some hillariously cheesy acting from the early PS1 days :)

On topic -"I Am Sinistar!","I Hunger!", "RUN RUN RUN!"

Also the are so many great lines by TF2 cast and by Portal's GladOS, they put Valve's own HL games to shame.

Clearly all of these are wrong, and Resident Evil 1 for the PS1 is the only correct one. The pancake line and the "It's really powerful, especially against living things" lines are true poetry. Totally the most stimulating dialogue of all time.

""I am Andrew Ryan, and I am here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?

'No,' says the man in Washington, 'it belongs to the poor.'
'No,' says the man in the Vatican, 'it belongs to God.'
'No,' says the man in Moscow, 'it belongs to everyone.'

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose...

Rapture.

A city where the artist would not fear the censor,

where the great would not be constrained by the small.

And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city, as well.
