Best Merchants/Shopkeepers In Gaming!

Welcome! Got a lot of GOOD things on sale, stranger.

So, merchants. They're in a lot of games. It's where we get supplies, sell stuff, even upgrade stuff. Maybe play a round of Gwent. This thread is about merchants/shopkeepers in video games. This can be anything as long as it's a person/thing selling things to you. I just wonder what kind there are. If they're funny, weird, angry. Anything.

The shopkeeper of Crypt of the Necrodancer. He's absolutely brilliant. Listening to a great tune, running into him, and he just takes over like that. It's nothing short of perfection.

RE4 merchant, he's the best.

@jg4xchamp: Necrodancer fella gives him a run for his money. Truth. Maybe if he sung like him, I'd be more inclined to go with RE4's merchant. It's a toughie.

He's the only one (haven't played necrodancer) they went through the trouble of giving any personality, and he has to kick ass to always beat Leon S. Kennedy to the spot.

Nope.... none of them.... I gather resources from the baddies I kill.

Theres nothing I hate more than backracking to the previous town to buy more stuff instead of just doing the damn quest.... PADDING !!!

@jg4xchamp: Just being able to play with him in Mercenaries would've sufficed. He'd just wield random shit on him. Or give him proper moves. Who knows what's going on with him.

Basic principles: no matter what, no matter when, no matter who... any man has a chance to sweep any woman off her feet. He just needs the right broom.

I also really like the ones in Witcher 3, Persona 4, and Splatoon has some cool ones too.

Great topic! I'm still feeling them out in Witcher 3 but that little Dwarf muh fuckr blacksmith I like so far.

In Ovlivion I remember killing some shop keepers and 200 hrs later I would still come into their store and there would be this dead silence. I was reminded of my terrible act of murdering them to rob them of their worldly possetions.

As far a favorite? Nook that garden shop owner in Amimal Crossing.

But looks like that has already been thoroughly covered. So my second choice is pretty much any from Demon's Souls - folks that can tell am entire story based solely on their tone of voice and the items they sell. Umbasa!

I'm too greedy to buy anything from the Merchant.

Well, RE4 is taken by a land slide, sooo...

Guess I'll randomly throw out Terranigmas magic shop keepers / fortune tellers. Only because their music is so chill.

Also, the original bad ass. I like it when people get straight to the point.

The blacksmith Caxton in Dragon's Dogma. Every time you speak to him. And if you get too friendly with him you get a super ending.

Tom Nook or the Able Sisters from Animal Crossing are good, maybe the Able Sisters, because they have more personality and mystery to them than Tom Nook. I also like the merchants in Mass Effect especially because of the little message you can leave in their shops. :>

Granted you can't buy anything from him (only rent masks from him in Ocarina of Time) he's still a merchant regardless.

For those that can sell you stuff however? Yeah, I can't think of any.

I like him...... as a Merchant in a Linear Game he's awesome, you can access him in between Chapters and once on almost every level.......... they essentially took the idea from DMC and gave it a face and personality....... and more importantly it wasn't cheap or lazy like half of the merchants I've come across.

Nothing beats the pothead merchant in Skyrim.

Was pretty much gonna come here and say the Crypt of the Necrodancer shopkeeper as well.

He not only sings, but you can fight him - if you're not prepared, he will poop on you.

Christopher from Shadows of the Damned is pretty cool.

The catman from secret of mana (named sumthing like Nekko I think), and the black guy from mgs4 (mainly cause he looks like the thong song guy). Also the black guy outside a van/truck/whatever in vampire the masquerade: bloodlines.

I never understood the fascination with re4's merchant, he's good and all but... W/e

Probably said a million times on this thread but RE4 merchant takes this.

I loved Skyrim, especially the ones where you could forge in the back of shop.
