So I was playing BC: Rearmed I began to think of the best soundtracks which is often overlooked in games today. People make note if a game has a good soundtrack but I think its best when you can enjoy the music away from the game. And its because of those that I came up with these picks:

World of Goo's OST is so underrated it hurts. Seriously, i never see it get mentioned in these kind of threads D:Thunderdrone

I love rap and the first two songs you put of madworld are hot dookie the last one is actually good but man those first two are straight garbage. Should've posted the last one first.

At least the beat is good on that one.

Well when I made this thread I was thinking of the songs as themselves without context of the game backing them up. Even medicore songs can be good when you have awesome gameplay backing them up or a cool cutscene. But when you can enjoy a song without the context of a game I feel that the song has transcended the class of "good video game song" and just is a good song.

In MW's case, its the only OST on my list that works best in context.

Like i said, i deslike rap/hip-hop, but the game's atmosphere gives the music another meaning; Its almost making fun of the genre.

I appretiate it in a more "tong-in-cheek", not-so-serious way.

Yeah but I was thinking more out of context, because some music is great in-game but feels awkward out of game. The music I listed is all stuff that I can see myself (or already am) listening while I work or am in the car. And that really doesn't do it for me for that.

But I think Super Mario Galaxy has the best original soundtrack this gen.

Morrowmind, Monkey Island, Max Payne and character themes such as Ryu and Kens, Soul Calibar and Tekken also, Some from need for speed games and gta. Metal gear solid and final fantasy series take the throne.
The whole crisis core album is better than most of what everyone has listed.

Being a vivid fan of electronica and some of its sub-genres, the Mass Effect soundtrack was really superb at times.the_delta

Ilos music was pretty much the cream of the crop in Mass Effect.

Reminded me of 80's sci-fi movies... but in a good way.

No doubt "Ode to the Bridge Builder" is awesome, but this other song really grew on me after listening to it two or three times. I think this one is pretty epic.
