I'm gonna start us out with the Tribes Series

This game was probably one of the greatest and most fun FPSs ever made, and it IMO it has always been much better than the UT series. Sadly, this game seems dead now, and I don't think it was that popular back in the day either. It's still my favorite FPS though.

I played Tribes 2. It was pretty good. I definitely don't like the new Tribes though.

Odin Sphere might be a sleeper hit. Maybe.

MORE PEOPLE NEED TO PLAY IT!

Space Station: Silicon Valley for the N64. It was a great platformer made by R* North. You played as a computer chip who could go into robots. It's one of my favorite games of all-time.

I would have to say both Baten Kaitos games for the gamecube. I thought both had great plot twists, excellent music, and good gameplay.

probably advance wars, its a really simple game that spawned two incredible sequels with almost unlimited replay value. User created maps as detailed as AW1 were not heard of before on a GBA title.

A perfect example of the whole "if it doesn't get a 7 or above t's a bad game" *though it got A at gamerankings* perspective by poser gamers who make up the majority of the gaming community of today it was an awesome game. The games theme is extremly hard to describe as it didn't focus on traditional anything from an RPG in this vain. Think of it's themes originalty as Killer7 *though the game is really nothing like that* and that should give you an idea of how "different" it is. As for gameplay it's just the same. It has the pacing and storytelling of a JRPG, the roleplaying of a WRPG, exploration of a Dungeon Crawler, and the clue finding of an adventure game. It was truely a work of it, it's just too bad not enough people payed attention just because of its score.

Laugh, go ahead laugh, but this game was no IS awesome. You had your own creature to raise and you explored the forests, caves, mansions, etc. while converting people back to your town. You were in an open world and could pretty much go anywhere after a 2 hours into the game. It was truly a fun experience. The only problem with it are 2 things. One that it was way to hard to have your Digimon evolve normally and Two your Digimon died way to fast. If it wasn't for those two things this game would have been one of the greatest titles of the 32/64 bit era. The sequels however reeked of sheer typical franchise crud cash-ins, but the original however still holds up as a great game today.

Big hit in Japan, big failure in North America. This game did what few games like Metroid, Zelda, and Dragon Quest did. It was actually was a 3D version of it's game. Shinobi was the first game to actually to be a 3D side scroller. It had the pacing of a 2D sidescroller, the simple non-boring combat of a 2D sidescroller, then linearity of a 2D sidescroller, the levels of a 2D sidescroller, the difficulty of a 2D sidescroller, and most of all the fun of a 2D sidescroller. The only thing it didn't have of a 2D sidescroller was the non-annoying camera angles. This game was awesome and it seems to me that Panzer_Zwei is the only person I've ever seen in this thread to give it props.

Riven, which was the sequel to Myst. Well, both of them, actually. Beautiful games back in the day. Does Icewind Dale 2 count? It never seemed to be any where as popular as Baldur's Gate1/2, though it is an excellent RPG. They're the only two I can think of, off the top of my head.

and

It looks pretty good for a 1997 game.

Koalakommander

It only sold around 100,000 copies in Japan *though Japan isn't as big as America time that by 2.5 so see it as 250,000* and around 80,000-90,000 in America.

For the Sega Genesis:

This was Final Fantasy Tactics before Final Fantasy Tactics was.

Outside of the states it's known as Langrisser. Don't know why I bought it, but it was an epic strategy game very few people know about.

Both Magic Carpet games by Bullfrog Studios are sleepers in my book, though they may have had the entire gaming community commenting on how the ads made it look like a ripoff of Doom despite how different the two series are. (I never observed it myself, though.) Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri looks as if it's the best Looking Glass Studios game no one ever talks about, given my experience with its demo. Sure, the controls are a little weird(the mouse moves your aiming reticle, but NOT your view, much like System Shock 1), but it looks and plays great for a 1996 game. Anachronox is a solid JRPG-style WRPG from Ion Storm Dallas. I haven't played the game, but I've seen it in machinima form, and the story's pretty good-not to mention having some of the best quotes I've ever heard in a game. ("I will kill you-with DEATH!") Chances are the reason why this one flopped was because of a certain other Ion Storm Dallas disaster we know as Daikatana, ruining the Ion Storm brand until some ex-LGS employees formed Ion Storm Austin to restore that pedigree with Deus Ex(and ruin it again with Deus Ex: Invisible War and Thief: Deadly Shadows). Outcast is a great adventure title, but its reliance on software rendering in 1999 meant it hit the CPU far too hard for PCs of the era. (The reason for the lack of hardware acceleration is because the terrain is rendered in voxels(3D pixels), not polygons. The vast majority of graphics cards accelerate polygon rendering, but NOT voxel rendering.) It's also got a great orchestrated soundtrack. Then there's Rocket Jockey, which has to be the most original video game I've ever played. You ride around on a rocket bike, either swinging balls or floating pucks into goals, racing through pairs of pylons, or tormenting other jockeys by yanking them around with grappling cables and tying them to stuff. And the soundtrack's an excellent set of surf guitar tunes, too. (I've read something about a Saturn version of this game, which wouldn't surprise me since it was published by Segasoft, but the only versions I can confirm are all for Windows 9x.) I also have to look into this obscure PC WRPG called Albion. It involves a group of humans investigating a foreign planet found to be rich in minerals in the far future, and your starship is about to arrive to that destination. Only thing is, this foreign planet turns out to be a medieval fantasy world rich in (sentient) life. (Yes, it's one of those rare RPGs that throws in some sci-fi elements to the usual fantasy fare.) Finally, I can't conclude this post without mentioning both Starflight games and Star Control II, all of which could very well be the greatest games of all time, yet no one ever talks about them on the various platforms they were released(SF1 got PC, C64, Mac, Atari ST, Amiga, and Genesis/MD versions with the Mac, ST, and Amiga versions being the best and the Genesis version being very different, SF2 just had PC, Mac, Atari ST, and Amiga versions, and SC2 had an original PC release, a 3DO remake with voiceovers, missing dialogue, an altered interface, and CGI videos instead of slideshow intro/ending scenes, and an open-sourced 3DO version backported to the PC, PSP, and GP2X, among other platforms. No one that's an avid fan of gaming on any of those platforms EVER talks about these games, with a few exceptions.) If you're wondering what they are, all three are space adventure and exploration games with an emphasis on landing on planets to collect minerals and artifacts, going back to base to sell minerals so that you can upgrade your ship, and meeting up with various alien species to talk, fight, or both.

Phantom Dust is an awesome Xbox game with great play over Xbox Live, and nobody knows about it. It's the best fusion of a CCG and action gameplay that I've seen anywhere.
