Which one(s) would you pick to take the cake?
I think so far, Dead Space has scared me the most followed by the original Resident Evil the first time I played it.

Still RE4...gotta love itrobbv1122
The Gamecube version is still one of my favorite games of all time (and I'm a PC gamer) but I think Dead Space did it perfectly. Even with its slightly repetitive enemies.
Left 4 Dead. A team of four people up against a massive, ever changing and *intelligent* zombie horde (thanks to the AI director) and with little more than what they can scrounge in terms of weapons. Not to mention the Wi-foxhound_fox

Resident Evil 4 is the only survival horror game I ever thought was fun. It is epic and awesome and anything else great you want to say about it.Newsboy
It says a lot when the majority of people in this thread are just mentioning the action-horror titles...
My personal favourite survival-horror title is Silent Hill 2. It's tale of a broken man clinging on to the memory of his late wife is one of the most compelling plots, game or otherwise, that I've experienced. It's a cerebal adventure that doesn't rely too much on combat, but rather on atmoshpere, puzzle solving and exploration.Â
Probably Resident Evil Remake for the Cube. Not only was is one of the best games released at the time, but it is probably the best in the series, followed closely by Resident Evil 2.

Left 4 Dead is fun, but I don't think it's the gem of survival horror games.
i agree with deadspace but my 2nd choice would would be the remake of resi evil on the gamecubeWhich one(s) would you pick to take the cake?

I dont know, I played RE 4 on hard and I thought at the very least the Horror part was there and my GF would agree. Now on the hardest difficulty I felt it was pretty challenging, although there was plenty of ammo I would say you were tripping over it and it took alot more to kill the enemies. Not to mention some times it felt very overwhelming like when you were in the house and they were coming from everywhere in big groups. Or when one would pop up from your blind spot.
It is true you did alot more killing in this one then in the last but honestly thats not such a bad thing IMO. I guess the survival part was toned down alittle though.
Resident Evil 4 was just a shooter with Spaniards. :|RE4 GC version
L4D was just a shooter with zombies

I'll go with Dead Space. Sure it's shooty and not that hard but but I'd call it survival horror anyway.
In fact, it's not that different from any of the resident evils (yeah yeah, more 4 than the rest) apart from Isac being much easier to control and the fact that it's in 3d.
Huh? Resident Evil 4 not survival horror? I don't see that at all, it's stupid.
"Survival horror is a video game genre inspired by fictional horror films in which the players primary objective is to survive and or escape a threat typical of horror fiction. The survival horror genre is unique from other video game genres in that is is not generally defined by mechanics, but rather by theme, subject matter and design."
Seems to me like, Survive+Zombies=Survival horror
I'd vote Manhunt then Resident Evil 4

I haven't played it yet but Resident Evil isn't a survival horror game AT ALL.Juggernaut140That is why you fail. Try playing the game, you'll realize that it actually is a survival horror game. Again, just because you can actually fight back instead of only being able to aim at three different heights doesn't mean that the game falls out of the genre.
RE2 in its time was pretty good, i also like Silent Hill 3 a lot, dont know why, but i found it really scary sometimes, but to me the price goes to Fatal Frame 2, towards the end of the game it gets pretty frightening. I havent play Stalker and Dead Space yet.

I agree RE4 wasn't really thrilling, but gameplay wise it's superb, same with L4D.

Not to put you down but the whole witch deal is mostly hype, she's easy to kill. I feel more like running fast as hell when there's a Tank around instead, specially on expert
