You have to survive against horror, what is not survival horror about that? What does it have to be in 2d for it to be called survival horror? You collect treasure, open doors, ration ammo, do puzzles, kill zombies and monsters. Please tell me what isn't survival horror about resident evil 4? I would love to know.

[QUOTE="Juggernaut140"] I haven't played it yet but Resident Evil isn't a survival horror game AT ALL.princeofshapeir
That is why you fail. Try playing the game, you'll realize that it actually is a survival horror game. Again, just because you can actually fight back instead of only being able to aim at three different heights doesn't mean that the game falls out of the genre.

I meant I haven't played L4D yet. I've beaten RE4 3 times and spent forever on Mercenary mode. It is in no way a survival horror game.

This juggernaut guy thinks RE4 isn't survival horror, lmfao, I can't even imagine how that makes sense in his head. It defined survival horror for this generation, and it did it from last generation. omglolwtf i'm out of this, dellude yourself all you like.

Really? Is that why you never run out of ammo? Is that why you can BUY HEALTH ITEMS? If it's such a horror game, then how come is wasn't scary? I think you're the one who's deluding yourself

Then tell me why 50% of the thread named RE4 as their favourite survival horror game? Every gamer must be wrong and your right, sorry my mistake.

You survive against horror, how many times do I have to say it, obviously you do not understand anything about the survival horror genre at all. Just because you didnt run out of ammo or you didnt find it scary doesn't mean anything whatsoever.

He's right. As a survival horror game RE4 is pretty damn week. No other "survival-horror" game ever made me feel as comfortable while playing. It's not scary and you're given way too much ammo and health to call it a survival-horror.

I think the game is scary and I think the atmosphere is genuinely creepy and gloomy, something RE is known for. It's a different kind of thrill: adrenaline-pumping action. But the game can make you jump when you're playing it in the dark, as with all RE games, and it IS a survival horror game. Just because it doesn't have the craptastic aiming system that made the RE series famous doesn't mean it's not part of the survival horror genre.princeofshapeir

Please play Fatal Frame II, Silent Hill 2/3 or System Shock 2 and tell me again that Resident Evil 4 is "survival horror."

Resident Evil 1 (the original, not the directors cut) -> Silent Hill 2 -> Resident Evil 2 -> Silent Hill 1 -> Dead Space Dead Space did really well considering it's been a long time since a true survival horror has come out, but it still was missing a little something to be compared better then any of the original Resident Evil/Silent Hill games.

Surviving against horrors? You just pretty much described every video game ever. Yes, all of you are wrong.

I'd probably go with Silent Hill 2, and if not that, then RE: Code Veronica. There are a bunch of very good survival horror games out there now, but SH2 nailed the psychological side of the genre for me, and Code Veronica is my all-time favorite RE game, which I consider the father of survival horror. I will give a shout out to Alone in the Dark (the original) though, as that game was AWESOME.

I have to take a break from Dead Space after every have hour or so. Its embarassing but true.Singularity22

No need to be embarassed, it's what it's designed to do. I'm exactly the same. I play it with all lights off and the volume up on the 5.1, scares me to hell - my poor character is spinning around like a top practically all the way through a level, especially in the larger areas.
