Best Video Game Soundtrack

Simple - what do you think is the geratest soundtack ever made for a game. Please keep nostalgia to a minimum. Also, not the most influencial, or one which made the best use of the technology availible. I you could recomend one sountrack without playing the game to someone wlese, what would it be.

For me, it has too be the Guild Wars sountrack (the whole series, and prophecies especially) - Jeremey Soule is a genius. That sountrack goes well with the game, on its own while doing work, or played in the background while playing any RPG game. Its beautiful.

Father & Son - Metal Gear Solid 4 by Harry Gregson Williams.

Medievil, Medievil 2 comes to mind, I'd say these are my top fave, Resident Evil(pre-re4/re5) Silent Hill (AY, do I need to say more? ) and Medievil.

I don't think either of these are the best ever, but they're probably my favorite this gen.

Civ? as much as I play V, I swear I never really notice the music, its more like elevator music to me, you hear it but you really don't listen to it.

The entire soundtrack is just perfectly matched up with everything going on at different points in the game :)

Very recently I was blown away by the Bastion Soundtrack. Don't usually expect that from an indie game but woooow the OST for this game rocks.

This gen in general has some pretty great music. World of Goo, The Darkness, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Human Revolution, Bayonetta boss music, Halo 3, Portal 2 as well had a surprisingly memorable soundtrack.

My favorite soundtrack from this gen is NieR. Great stuff, imo.

Of all time, it's Final Fantasy VIII. I hate the game, but the music is pretty awesome (imo). The Final Fantasy series have pretty good music, but I liked FFVIII the most.

The pokemon Black and White Sound Track. The towns music is soothing and makes me want to pick up an instrument. Route 10 is actually good in a strange way... makes me want to do something but i don't know what.

Metal Gear Solid for the PS1. It got butchered in the GC remake though...

SotC, absolutely epic.

i would say any castlevania game, but after playing the more recent one (lords of shadow), i would say LoS has the best i've heard in a video game.

Of all the OSTs I listened to the most iconic and memorable that anyone could listen to without even playing the games are Metal Gear Solid ( all ), Castlevania ( SOTN, LOI and COD ), Final Fantasy ( VII, X and XIII ), ICO, Shadow of The Colossus and anything by Mitsuda.

It's hard to choose one.

Final Fantasy X, probably. An amazingly diverse soundtrack which always makes me shiver. Also, Scott Pilgrim's is amazing, along with many of the Megaman games' soundtracks.
