Todd Howard's comments at QuakeCon last week -- at least, how we once understood them -- ruffled some feathers. I passed on some reporting done by Big Download this morning, who said Howard remarked that The Elder Scrolls V was not currently in development at Bethesda. Those comments were taken by some to mean Bethesda had moved on from Elder Scrolls. Bethesda's head of marketing Pete Hines has clarified on the Bethesda Blog that this isn't the case.
"Both Todd and I have said repeatedly that, of course, we're going to do another Elder Scrolls game," explained Hines. "The last one was enormously popular. So was the one before that. You get the idea. So do we."
"Todd and Bethesda Game Studios are hard at work on their next big game, and we're not ready to discuss it," he continued. "As always, we prefer to have something amazing to show when we talk about it. We aren't going to confirm or deny or comment on speculation, nor are we going to give hints about anything. If you know us by now, you know we don't really do that."
Hines comments seem to suggest the next project from Bethesda's main team is not the once widely speculated The Elder Scrolls V. But Hines comments should be reassuring to fans of the franchise: another game is coming, even if it isn't anytime soon.
