Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout: NV, Skyrim, all games that i've spent countless hours in. No other games draw me in to the scope that Bethesda games do. No other games offer you the freedom of choices like they do, some games try, but no one does it better than Bethesda.

Sure, when they come out they are buggy. However, patches come out quick. (I'll forgive PS3 skyrim taking a few months)

Which is your favorite Bethesda game?

fallout 3 is my favorite from what i've played. i still haven't got around to playing skyrim yet, though. it's on my list. i still prefer bioware and obsidian to them, though.

NV is better than any of the bethesda developed games. But if you're played the console version i'd see why you think its the worst, it was extreeeemely buggy on consoles, much more so than the very buggy PC version. PC version was fixed fast epsecially with mods.

SonyNintendoFan

Morrowind.

Everything else from them has been pretty poor. I guess I enjoyed Oblivion, but that was due to me excusing the poor parts of the game as beginning of the gen misstep.

I like skyrim but after you play it a bit the static world that never changes and the npcs who all have the same voices and say the EXACT same things over and over again give it this stale 'sameness' feeling.

I would say there up there, best thing about bethesda (also a achillies heel if you will) is that you get more out of their games by using your imagination, thinking of a back story for your somewhat nameless character, have him/her, become an evil killer who stalks people in the night, to the dark night everyone needs stalking the shadows helping those who need helping, to being rambo.............yeah rambo

Morrowind is the best game from Bethesda. Skyrim is a very over hyped and boring game just like Oblivion was. Fallout and New Vegas where fairly good but nothing special.

Skyrim, on the other hand, was amazing to me. I don't care much for Fallout.

No.

Skyrim, Oblivion and Fallout 3 were all horrible games with terrible execution and countless bugs. Their only redeeming factors are slightly above average stealth (for "RPG" standards) and moddability.

DarkLink77

Don't forget the shallow gameplay and combat, bland leveling system and repetative dungeon design... but the problem is, I'm still guilty of overlooking all those flaws, and playing the crap out of every Beth RPG this gen!

Why?!

I think that's a good reason. None of Bethesdas games are bug free on release, but they are a lot more successful then a lot of other large open world games.

Lets see here... Skyrim

  • Shallow, unresponsive combat that fails to have the feel of an action game or the depth of an RPG. Sure you could say that it is an action RPG, but even for ARPG standards the combat system is bad.
  • Awful quests, being no better than what you see in your typical mmo.
  • Guilds are glorified questlines
  • Quest design built around the quest compass
  • One of the worst UIs I have ever seen.
  • A repetitive and empty overworld, forests, snowy mountains, a meadow and a swamp.
  • Towns all feel the same, towns are also really small, even the capital of skyrim felt really small with onlyl around a dozen buildings or so.
  • Obnoxious level scaling that makes the world feel really plastic.
  • Dungeons as linear as Call of Duty.
  • Only like 4 enemy types, melee, archer, mage and firebreathing cliffracer.
  • Speaking of firebreathing cliffracers, never before has an enemy been this boring to fight.
  • Boring weapon variety, you got 3 straight blades, 2 axes, 2 maces and a bow.
  • Melee combat feels very floaty, enemies arent all that responsive, hitting a foe is never satisfying.
  • Ranged combat was buggy and too many times I ended up hitting invisible walls. Oh and awful enemy AI and pathfinding made me able to just sit there in front of them, shooting them down as they just stood there.
  • Worst magic system ever. Dual wielding spells was an idiotic idea, lack of spell scaling made destruction magic useless, None of the spells were all that interesting either.
  • Pointless economy, money is useless.
  • Smithing allows you to get really overpowered stuff really fast.
  • Races mean next to nothing.
  • No real choices to make.
  • Perk tree is shallow with obvious "pick me"s, perk tree was also poorly balanced with some perks allowing you to break the game even further.
  • Bad writing.
  • Mounts that were obviously tacked on.
  • No depth
  • No challenge
  • No variety
  • Todd Howard's pre release buzz.
  • Worst game I played in 2011, one of the worst games I have played in my life.

Its relatively easy to make a sequel or expansion better than the original. The big question is could Obsidian have done Fallout 3 as well as Bethesda

Yeah, their games would've been much better if they had more focus, instead of just being huge for the sake of being huge...

Instead of a large map filled with a bunch of repetative places, I'd prefer a smaller but more detailed map packed with less dungeons, but with each one being good and distinct in some way, like having small storylines, unique and actually useful loot, etc. The longer you play Skyrim, the more it turns into a chore...

Also, I'd love it if they added small notifications that warn you if you try to enter a main quest related dungeon before you aquired the quest. Fortunately, there's a small mod on the PC which does that, but I don't see why not have it at least as an option in the vanilla game...
