Six of the key people behind F.E.A.R. and No One Lives Forever have spent the last 11 months developing a first-person shooter in secret. Betrayer, revealed first to PC Gamer, is an eerie single-player game set in haunted, early colonial-era Virginia. Ive played the first hour and a half, something youll be able to do when Betrayer releases through Steam Early Access on August 14.

Betrayer doesnt fit neatly into an existing genre. On the surface, its an FPS set in open, pristine American wilderness that happens to be crawling with undead conquistadors. But the games monochromatic art direction, gloomy tone, and sense of mystery distinguish it from other indie and horror projects.

The story of Betrayer is expressed through scattered cluesgravestone engravings, artifacts, notes, and other evidence that you find in the world.

The black and white things looks horrible. fear and NOLF are awsome though, so, mite be gud.

Should get rid of black and white artstyle all togther looks horrible, but this might be good since F.E.A.R and NOLF are awesome.

The black and white is cool for a while, but it would be a pain to the eyes to fast. I'm a color fan.

Looks good to me It looks like something you would have to play in person on a powerful gaming pc on a high resolution monitor with AA to fully appreciate the graphics and all its detail small screen shots and compressed and lower bitrate HD video won't do it justice but hopefully they will add some more contrasting color in the future besides just red I don't want them to change the overall black and white art style though.

That is awful looking. It almost hurts my eyes. Trying to focus on targets in that art style would give me a headache.The problem being nothing has colour so enemies blend into the environment and make it much harder to see them

There's having a unique art style and then there's having a completely stupid one to try grab attention that in no way benefits the actual game

Looks really interesting, but that black and white style looks to be annoying. It already hard to make out some of the stuff from those pictures.

It could be good, but they need to tone the black and white contrast way, way down. I don't mind black and white games, but I do mind when it literally is just black and white.

But here, it's just hard to make out anything in the screenshots as well as the video. They shouldn't remove the artstyle. But they should definitely tweak it.

Would prefer another Aliens vs Predator game. Monolith's AvP2 is still the best one.

I miss good old F.E.A.R. and NOLF. :(

I hope they tweak it they only need to adjust the contrast so it isn't just black and white they need some other shades between Black and White.

You are absolutely right. Like in the screenshots I posted it's quite easy to see stuff because there are many shades between black and white.

Big fan of the other games, but this game is not as appealing and trying to come off as cool and different but falls flat like as if it has no budget.

I rather have a No One Lives Forever 3 :(tagyhag
