Better soundtrack: The Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy?

Zelda has my favourite game music ever.

I've tried to listen to lots of FF songs, since people keep raving about how good it is, but I've never seen it. I find the music a bit boring, for some reason. Even the song you posted.

Damn, tough choice.

Have to go with FF, Uematsu is just that great.

Nothing beats the score of Twilight Princess imho.

Final fantasy, prefer the games too pre 12 of course.

Final fantasy is fantastic but Zelda is in another league.

I feel like I'm on an adventure when I play Zelda. I play the music in my head even after I stop playing the game. That is a testament of how great and memorable and fun it is. Zelda is up there with SoTC as the best soundtracks produced for gaming. Even if I haven't played wind weaker and twilight princess, I still listen to the soundtrack and just sit back and relax.

I'm more of a Zelda fan than a FF fan, but when it comes to music I definitely gotta give FF the edge.

As for which game in each series has the best soundtrack, that's like asking me to pick me favorite child. If I had to choose though I'd probably pick both Majora's mask and FFVII, for just how well both did fitting their respective moods.

Legend of Zelda of course.

I haven't played a Final Fantasy game, but I know that series has great music. I won't vote, but Skyward Sword's soundtrack brought Zelda to a whole other level. Incredible.

Best of the best is between Majora's Mask and Final Fantasy IX, but I can't choose one over the other.

But generally, I can't help but give the nod to Final Fantasy. Even the bad ones (VIII) have great music.

I love both games but this is not even close. Final Fantasy easy. I listen to the music all the time many years after completing a game.

While I absolutely love both, FF has pieces of music with great orchestras and a level of grandeur the LoZ soundtracks don't quite accomplish.

lol Anything from LTTP or OoT takes a massive elephant sized shit on any FF song. Zelda wins easily.

Zelda, better range. FF's music is good for the "big epic moment" stuff like bosses, the moment to moment music, the light hearted stuff, the sense of adventure? That area I feel like Zelda has more memorable tunes. Wind Waker's menu theme for instance I like more than most FF music, and I don't like Wind Waker the game all that much.

I dono, music is difficult to understand.

Interesting comparison. Zelda is usually one character with another main character assisting them, and the music is considerably more atmospheric than Final Fantasy as the music can be seen as a companion to the player. Final Fantasy involves multiple characters, and has frequent use of long dialogue and cutscenes, and is much more emotional and epic. They do different things essentially but they both execute their goal very well. Zelda's got the ambient music down to an exact science, whether it is dark ambience, desert-themed music, or just combat, it's all brilliant, so I will choose Zelda.

This is a really, really tough choice for me.

I don't really like the Final Fantasy games, and I love Zelda, but credit where it's due: FF has some of the best and most memorable music in game history, but so does Zelda.

I think I'm going to give it to Final Fantasy. Despite my heavy bias towards Zelda, and Zelda having a tremendous amount of wonderful tunes, I can't think of anything from the Zelda games that can compete with tracks like One Winged Angel or various iterations of Decisive Battle.

Final Fantasy for me , it has some of the most memorable tunes in gaming history .... and its not just one or 2.

Haven't really listened to FF's music so I'll go with Zelda. I love a lot of the OST in Zelda.

Zelda feels more classic, and much of it gets recycled on account of its classic nature but gets better and better each time. I haven't played much Final Fantasy but have they ever evolved the music over time in the same fashion?

Had a friend though who use to have the FFVII victory music (or first few seconds of it) set as his text audio on his cell phone, when he wasn't using that it was the MGS codec **beep-beep**. Always thought that was great.

Final Fantasy. Zelda is more consistent, but Final Fantasy has more variation and higher highs imo.

That's a tough one. I think I prefer FF, but Zelda is just fantastic.

Dang I chose the wrong one. Now that I think about it I might prefer FF more than Zelda's music. I do think that Zelda's music is more memorable though.

Dr. Wiley's stage 1 soundtrack was legendary in Megaman 2.

That's a ridiculously tough question, but I think FFXIII soundtrack puts it above Zelda... especially for Saber's Edge one of my favorite pieces of music to ever be in a game.

14 is a good reminder of how good the music can be in that franchise.

Music is the single thing that FF has continually nailed. Videogame music hinges strongly on association, and the stories and characters from FF have been more emotionally impactful for me.

Zelda's music is good, but only a handful of tracks ever cross into the "great" territory.

Chrono is better than both.

It's a bit unfair because there's been far more material made for FF, but I think FF wins. Zelda's music is world-class anyway though.

Zelda by far, granted FF has some wonderful tunes but nothing is as timeless as Zelda tunes.

Final Fantasy has 13+ games of amazing soundtracks. You're going to have to be more specific
