Beyond Good and Evil 2 not canned *update*

The rumor has been debunked through French gaming site GameBlog.fr who says that Ancel is still with the company and Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still being worked on.

The site says that they got in touch with both Ubisoft France's PR people and their own inside sources at the company and they all denied the rumor emphatically. Considering the fact that I was practically near tears when I learned of the possibility of this game's cancellation I'm all for believing this rumor denial is true. However, I don't know the credibility of GameBlog.fr so I'm going to label this rumor smasher as a rumor itself. Is a double rumor even possible?

I...I think my heart just stopped. Hopefully Ancel will just leave Ubisoft for good, and go to a studio that will actually appreciate his talent.

I refuse to believe th game is cancelled, considering how long it has been in development for, Ubisoft might release it...we'll see.

It's like Ubi is trying to shoot themselves in the foot these days (if true, of course). On the plus side, this all-but-certainly means Ancel will be working on a new IP.

If he did leave then I might not buy another Ubisoft title since he was my favorite developer at Ubisoft.

Normally I'd be on the "it's still just a rumour" side, but this isn't exactly a stretch. We haven't seen or heard anything about BG&E2 for about two years now (and the game has consistently been rumoured as either cancelled or on the chopping block since then), and Ubi is on a roll of awful lately (DRM, Conviction, arguably the new Ghost Recon and dropping the PoP 2008 theme for the latest title).

It wouldn't surprise me if it were true, and I would epic sad face, but if he has too leave then there's probably a good reason why. If it's true, I would rather the game was just abandoned completely and not ruined by Ubisoft, who have really gone down hill recently with maybe the exception of Assassins Creed.

Earlier this year an Ubisoft exec assured journalists that the game was "still in production"."

but usually devs like to keep people interested in games while they are being developed by releasing screenshots, trailers, etc.... we havent had any of that

Good. Aside from Assassin's Creed (which isn't even that great to begin with) everything Ubisoft has put out this gen has been pretty mediocre.

I'd rather them not butcher the game, which would've been inevitable.

ubisoft cans a great series like this but continues to run their other franchises to the ground. I'm looking at you splinter cell.:(
