I thought Crysis 2 was bad...
BF3 takes the cake. Everything is a shade of blue because of the awful Color Grading and everything seems high contrast. It's possibly the most visually unappealing game I've ever seen.

What an odd comparison to make. But yeah, I hate that blue filter...BF3 looks nice but thats all it has is what i think, the gameplay as boring as that duke game

Yeah,as a PC gamer with a powerful rig,I agree how BF3 has horrible aesthetics and relies purely on technicallities while lacking anything resembling artistical design.Graphics should always serve aesthetics, not the other way around, just like this Escapist video says.
And yeah,Crysis 2 also had very bad aesthetics, especially while compared to its superior predcessor.Crysis had many strong colors, enviroments were lively and detailed, and it had some very nice variety(a unique looking inside of a space ship giving undersea impression, lush islands, snowy mountain, etc).Only part that truly looked bland was the military carrier at the end.
Personally,I loved Deus Ex:HR aesthetics this year,it looked beautiful,at least to me,loved the black/gold cyberpunk theme...
EDIT:Forgot to add Witcher 2,also a game that looks great, has a strong aesthetical design improved with great graphics that fully immerses into the experience...
VGA prove that UC3 has the best visual..... thank gud for that.... BF3 are not even in the nomeneeeehippiesanta
I don't know whose idea it was to plop stupid amounts of overblown lighting, bokeh where it doesn't belong and color grading all over the place in certain games, but it better stop next gen.
Devs actually think this **** looks good?

How can you even say Crysis 2 has very bad ashetics(what ever that means going to take it as overall art design) you honestly think this looks bad and is lacking in color compared to crysis 1 which was mostly tropical jungle and dirt roads/rocks(Yes it is extremely beautifully rendered jungles and rocks/dirt roads) but crysis 2 defiantly ups the ante alot in terms of fine detial and variation of art and colors from the first game and overall has more advanced tech behind it but the scale is toned down and obiosuly not nearly as much foliage. These pics are not maxed out and are running in dx9.
Vanilla looks much better. More constrast =/= better graphics.
Peredith
Even then the lighting is still horribly overblown and unnatural.
Crysis 2 basically looks like the Conduit design wise. *Cringes*

Yeah,Crysis 2 had its moments,I admit that. But overall,it doesn't look as nearly as good as first Crysis.Just my opinion though, also those were some nice screenshots,I'll give you that :)

Crysis 2s lighting unnatural? :| Maybe the haze that hides the poor draw distances and the sunshafts, but the lighting in that pic I posted looks gorgeous. Especially how it "bounces" around the scene.
This looks unnatural:

Wow vannilla looks alot worse didn't realize how much of a diffrence the mod. I played through the large majority of the game vannila so explains why booting up later to play again it looks so much better then I remember.

Seriously your comparing this to crysis 2 wtf?! I'd like to know what game you consider good looking and has "Natural Lighthing?"
Honestly, I can't really see that big or that bad of color grading in Crysis 2. Depending on time of the year plus sun angle and airborne particles , you'll see it in the real world.
Heck. I thought the afternoon lighting bloom in Crysis 2 was overblown until I actually saw very similar lighting here in NY around 3:45 pm in the afternoon last Thanksgiving. The real thing looked surreal. If I wasn't there, I wouldn't have believed it. That's why I quit criticism of lighting bloom in Crysis 2.

It's boring to look at and very generic to the point that no one wants to even play it. Also, he meant the sequel.

This one looks the best tbh.
That was the point of his post, wasn't it?
To prove how to make a game look good, you need more than a very advanced graphical engine like Frostbyte 2...
I'm not allowed to agree with him?

I'm pretty enthusiastic about Crysis 2, but the game DID actually remind me of The Conduit somehow. Crysis 2 looks infinitely better and has much better game design, but the general vibe was kind of similar.
These are some real world aerial photos I took on a hazy day. As far as the people below are concerned, it's a sunny day for them even though there's grading all over the place:

Well, but you agree with him, since that picture is indeed the best looking one.His post is there to show you how BF1943 screen looks the best, even though the first one from BF3 runs of Frostbyte 2,the most advanced engine here, yet it looks bland and ugly.Guess my comment was just misunderstood,or pointless.I apologize...
Crysis 2 looks fantastic.

I was going to post some comparison shots except I just emptied my Crysis 2 screenshot folder yesterday.

Yeah I had that problem too.
A lot of developers seem to ignore art design for raw power, and I feel like BF3 could have done more in being more visually striking with the way they presented colors and environments instead of just making it a big, beautiful game. Same for Crysis 2, they really need to add a little more color, a little more unique flavor to the world.
Uncharted 2 might not be as technically impressive as Crysis (ok it ISN'T as technically impressive as Crysis), but its a gorgeous game that gets a lot of juice from the PS3, and it ALSO manages to use an awesome artistic st.yle that makes it look even better.
Still, I'm not complaining too much. I don't go into BF3 expecting Okami levels of beauty, I just want to jump in a jeep and shoot lots of guys in the face.

1943 uses the same engine as BC1, so I think its just Frostbite 1.0. I might be wrong though, but BC2 didn't come out until almost a year later and added a bunch of stuff, so I'm pretty sure its Frostbite 1.0.
EDIT: No I looked it up, 1943 uses Frostbite 1.5, you were right.
