Where's the blue shading in this shot?
Not to mention that's like one multiplayer map you picked where it's noticeable.

...or maybe Bf3 is the first game they've played without semen covering their eyes? :PIf people can call Battlefield 3 a "really ugly" game, they haven't played enough ugly games.

I like the aesthetics of BF3, it's soft on the eyes while still being visually stunning, even on the brobox.
Oh, God, why, but why does every "graphics thread" needs to end up with badly modded crysis 2 pics in bad resolution?

Yeah I had that problem too.
A lot of developers seem to ignore art design for raw power, and I feel like BF3 could have done more in being more visually striking with the way they presented colors and environments instead of just making it a big, beautiful game. Same for Crysis 2, they really need to add a little more color, a little more unique flavor to the world.
Uncharted 2 might not be as technically impressive as Crysis (ok it ISN'T as technically impressive as Crysis), but its a gorgeous game that gets a lot of juice from the PS3, and it ALSO manages to use an awesome artistic st.yle that makes it look even better.
Still, I'm not complaining too much. I don't go into BF3 expecting Okami levels of beauty, I just want to jump in a jeep and shoot lots of guys in the face.

I fully agree,UC2 really has a very powerful art design, and overall, graphics look beautiful.Strong aesthetics improved by great graphics pushing PS3 capabilities very far.Really a great proof how strong engine isn't everything, imagination and will to create are much more important.I wonder how will UC3 stack up,will play it in a few weeks...
Mitu,
no,there isn't any blue shade on those pictures, but still, the colors and the enviroment look very bland,no contrast, lack of any stronger colors, very generic design.
Now,Frostbyte 2 is a very advanced and powerful engine full of potential to create, especially on PC,howewer, almost none of it was used in BF3.Its clearly a game made just to cash in,developer clearly wasn't allowed to express himself in any way,the fact is,aesthetics are really, really bad.Graphics are great, but graphics alone don't make a game look good and immersive to the eye.
Now,BF3 is a military shooter, and we OFC can't expect powerfull art design or anything, but we can expect at least a good color pallete, something I haven't seen in BF3,it all looks somehow...monotone...

Some games work fine with art design. There are other games where technical design works better especially when there is an effort at being "realistic". Both Crysis 2 and BF3 are examples of the latter because of the emphasis on technology. Whether they appeal to someone or not is left to individual taste. Quite frankly, I don't see one design approach being worse than the other.
Tastes can also vary from person to person.
I find more beauty in this screenshot than any other game (Crysis, Crysis 2, BF3, UC3, you name it) although few would know or understand why:
[QUOTE="Peredith"]Because I want to save bandwidth, pics are huge in mbs, plus huge pics aren't needed to make a point like this.Mitu, why do you resize your pics? :(
mitu123
Just save them as a high quality jpeg instead of png. I've literally only seen once instance in all the pictures I've posted where I could pick out the difference (and in that one case it was a huge difference, jpeg messed up the colors something terrible).

I normally prefer png without having to alter the quality but maybe I should do jpeg again, hope the colors aren't affected though.[QUOTE="Jebus213"]

Looks like somewhere you would go for a vacation, not a place of war.I'd like to post some 1080p war pics I pulled off of "The Chan"...but....you know. But here's the actual Island where the battle took place.
I can still see it. Maybe I'm just sensitive to it.
Jebus213
You're probably one of those who's blessed with great color vision. I'm not. I mean I can see what you mean with BF3 on one of the island shots. I can't see it with Crysis 2. The color grading on the latter seems much more subtle.

Crysis 2 has horrible Color Grading that makes everything a deep shade of green and everything looks grainy. I don't know about you but I prefer actual color. Put r_colorgrading 0 in the command console in C2 and you'll see. I see it in a lot of other upcoming games running on Cryengine 3...

I did try that command. The only thing I detected that changed was the shading on the sky. It didn't do much for the buildings or the ground (which seemed fine to me). My eyes are not very keen to subtle color differences.
Edit. Antialiasing also has the effect of making things blurry/grainy. I have regular 4xAA enabled on all my screenies. That even my eyes can see.
It could also be an environmental effect Crytek is using although I'm not sure what. I do know if I limit maximum visibility in a game like say, FSX, I get what looks like color grading.
Lower visibility, around 20 miles(?) (terrain over Oregon USA). Lots of blue:
Visibility at 30 miles (Australia). Still got blue coverage:
Visibility at 40 miles. The only blue I see is on the top fringes in the distance:

You really are clueless aren't you? And a complete hell no to your second post... This is C1 with the differences of color grading on and off.
This video really shows off the GREEN color grading in Crysis 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceD-t3i5HOM

Of course I'm clueless if I can barely see the damn thing. But, let me get back with you in a bit. I'll try it again with crysis 2.
Sun ahead:
r_colorgrading 1:
r_colorgrading 0:
Sun behind:
r_colorgrading 1:
r_colorgrading 0:
The only difference I can see if is the sun is behind or ahead.
Edit: Sorry. I clean out my imageshack files every few days.
The only thing the color grading shows to me is whether the image looks "warmer" or "cooler". To be honest, I prefer "cooler" colors.
The buildings could have more detail, but it's not a big deal IMO.
HaloPimp978
The main issue is Crysis 2 is supposed to have a green color grading. On my shots and during gameplay, I only see the green tint when the sun is ahead. When the sun is behind, I'm hard-pressed to see where the color grading is. Perhaps, it's my eyes. I don't know.

Maybe it's your monitor. Nope. I see the color grading on every map. Also B2K is a gray fest...Alright, this makes more sense... So I guess it's not pink enough for you.Bebi_vegetaSorry I don't get consumed by hype and defend every aspect of the game to death. Someone has been messing with the FXAA injector. I can't wait get my hands on them. Just look, grass is green!!!!

yes, there is or at least a "dark" shade And they look nothing like the TC's 1st pic in which he is implying the entire game has that exact same shade.yes, there is or at least a "dark" shade And they look nothing like the TC's 1st pic in which he is implying the entire game has that exact same shade.
