I definitely agree. I think both companies should be criticized for not coming to an agreement in the development meetings. Why isn't the ISO involved in this process? The competition between the two is confusing to consumers and really disrupting the advancement of the techonolgy.

Exactly. They should just merge and work on BR already.

Like when Toshiba was working on the DVD and Sony and Phillips was working on a competitor, Sony and Phillips eventually decided to join up with Toshiba and ditch their format. But this time Toshiba should ditch theirs (HDDVD).

So what GAMES will you be playing on that 51GB HD-DVD disk on your xbox360?lol

**leaves pointless thread**

Note: the Blueray disk used in the PS3 that PS3 owners have is actually used for playing games. I thought this was old news, the space on HD-DVDs can't be used to make games for xbox360.

It's triple layer, not single layer. And blu-ray has a six layered 200GB prototype under review by DBA.

This is jus tan accepted spec. May or may not go into production. But given the production success of the dual-layer HD-DVD disc, triple layer discs *may* be easier than we'd expect them to be.

They'll never see the light of day. they're having enough problems with single and dual-layer discs. triple layer BDs and greater are almost just to say they can be theoretically done.

Without movie studios and manufacturers support, there won't be software for it, so it won't matter, no matter how technicaly advanced the format is. In 10 years, when 3D holographic video catches on and massive terabyte storage is needed, they will evaluate the next format and then HVD might get support and go mainstream.

Don't know much about these technologies, but if it can be played on a standard HD-DVD player then I'm sure it has already won.

Read about this on another forum. If i remember correctly triple layer HD-DVDdiscs arebackward compatible with all old HD-DVD drives, whereas old BD drives (including PS3) can't read triple layer BD.

Blu-ray is almost or done already with their 100 gig single layers....

But here's the cool thing.

360 uses DVD9 not HD-DVD....

PS3 only can read 50 gig Blu-ray discs...not 100 gigs...

SO why should anyone in this forum care or even be told?

I hope that Blu-Ray wins cause HD-DVD seems kind of half-***ed if you know what I mean. Like come on, they can't even think of an original name. They just stick HD on top of DVD.

That would'nt help them in anyway because all they would mainly use it is for freaking movies. Microsoft will not install a brand new dvd drives on their Xbox 360 to soppurt the 51 GB DVD.. if they do this will jack up their system prices like over $100... and its something there are not going to do because their focused on dropping there prices as much as possible because the sales have slowed down.

That's the beauty of it. You know exactly what it is, a high-def DVD. The casual market will understand very quickly. Who the hell knows what a Blu-Ray is?
