[QUOTE="Gzus666"]how is 1080P a consumer trap? its jawdroppingly good looking when you watch blu ray movies in it, i dont see why its a problem.Michael85
It doesn't do anything for gaming, and it's expensive.
i would think since this gen is all about great new graphics, it would do something for gaming, and its not really that expensive, and will continue to fall
how is 1080P a consumer trap? its jawdroppingly good looking when you watch blu ray movies in it, i dont see why its a problem.Gzus666
It's a consumer trap because certain companies hype it as a selling point for the console when only about 2% of the population has the means to take advantage of it.

not really, you just have to have a 1080P TV, which can be had for a reasonable price, and will come down more soon.

yea, but they are always crappy ones like MMORPG's, 10 years? maybe 1 game, ultima online or something.
huh? I fail to see your logic
xbox live is $50 a year at the most
some computer online games are $15 bucks a month
$50 is less than most games. If you complain about $50 bucks for a whole year of online experience that brings a whole new experience to all your games, then you are a cheapskate.

you fail to see that 10 years ago, no one was paying for online except ultima online? and most games that are being paid for are MMORPGs? or did you forget to read what i said, and confuse me with the other people you quoted?

I fail to see the point of your post because you DONT have to play games online for consoles. If you want to then you pay for the $50 for a whole year of gaming online
that's a bargain if you ask me. If you complain about $50 bucks for a whole year of gaming then you are a cheapskate and probably don't have a girlfriend. And if you do, she's probably disgruntled

One is an MMORPG, which requires dedicated server farms, and allows you to play with thousands of people...
the other is peer to peer hosting. :D
What kind of idiots would pay for non MMOs for gaming?

Those idiots paying $50 bucks a year are smarter than the idiots paying $600 bucks for a console with no games and a blu-ray player what will hardly be used
$50 bucks a year is nothing. Quit crying

Well, hate the genre or not but MMORPG type of games are rapidly growing. Best example is World of Warcraft which has over 8 million accounts.
interesting how you decide how and what people will do with their console. actually lots of people use blu ray, which can be seen by its overwhelming control of the market, and the amount of studios using it exclusively. if you havent watched a blu ray movie, you can hardly talk, they are amazing.
I have a blu-ray player but not a PS3. And blu ray is controlling next gen format... "NOT" controlling the Movie market. that goes to DVD
I'm willing to bet that for every 5000 DVD's sold worldwide, one blu ray disc is sold... and the number might be smaller than that. I know people with PS3's that still buy DVD's and havent used their Blu-ray player yet
and thats not going to change in a year or 2? HDTV's are dropping, and all programming will be HD in less than 2 years, so yes, it will become a big thing. DVD was not adopted overnight either, VHS had a long run into the DVD generation, or did we all forget that?
i dont pay for any online gaming, and unless they play mmorpgs, i dont know any that do. so please, give more examples of games on computer you pay to play online except MMO's? and you clicked the quote button on my name, you had to go out of your way to do so, which means you tried to quote me.Gzus666
Who cares if they are MMO's or not? They are still games and you are still paying for online gaming if you want to play those which lots of hermits do
And if i'm correct, most xboxowners don't have xbox live. You are sooo off the point of this thread.
stay focused.
Paying for onling gaming is not milkage to me. If you think it is then good for you. If you don't you don'tso we will end it there andkeep it moving

it's not going to change for a while
consumers arent ready to give up on their DVD movies and players yet.
I wonder, if this thread is going to be big... if there actually will be one valid point mentioned. So far there have been none that are valid.
I do have one though:
- Stating first party titles will be cheaper, then they cost the same as other games
- Saying something isn't needed, then apply it later to make early adopters regret their purchase (PS3 rumble feature for some people, Xbox 360 Elite system for some people)
- Stating something is needed now, while in reality it's only needed in a few years (Blu Ray)
- Denying you sell faulty consoles (Xbox 360)
See how I did it for both systems? I wonder if anyone here will make another unbiased post.FearlessSpirit
Good post, I will try and make my own unbiased post
1: The 4 foot usb cable that charges the SIXASIS. When I pay over $600 for a console I expect a longer cord so I can actually charge and play.
2: 360 Lauch units
3: Over priced VC games. Who the hell wants to pay $5 for a NES game from 1989? Not me.
4: XBLA, who wants to pay $10 for an online version of a game from 1992 when the online portion is broken?
5: PS1 games on PS3. Release a knowngame already, or at least one that someone might want to play. It will make up for the lack of games for the PS3 for the time being. At least the Wii has OoT as overpriced as it is.
6: Rampent fanboyism. They are video game consoles, they do not make you manhood any bigger. There is no need to defend you purchase. Just enjoy it if it is that good.
7: 1080p. Unless you have a huge, and I mean huge TV you cannot tell the difference. Telling people you can makes you look stupid.
8: This is the big one for me. All three systems have crap customer service when you brand new system breaks down. Thats right all three. You think they would want to get a hold of the broken units to figure out what the hell is going on but noooooo, lets ruin our image with the consumer and get a bad rep for having faulty hardware.

Paying for MMORPG = going to a restaurant, eating dinner and then paying the bill.
Paying for Xbox live = going to a restaurant, going into the kitchen, making your own dinner, serving it to yourself, then paying the bill.
MMORPGs provide dedicated servers to play on. Xbox live just matches you up with another peer. That's why MMORPGs warrent a fee, while Xbox live does not.

Wow, the way you say it seems like I can run over to Wal-Mart right now and buy a 1080p plasma for 600 bucks. As far as I can see, anything at 1080p doesn't go for less than $1200, which is ALOT of money, not to mention the $100 + cables you're going to need to buy to take advantage of the 1080p in the first place.

No, but you aren't taking into account that within the last few years, most people just finished replacing VHS collections with DVDs. Do you REALLY think they want to start the whole process over??? You're underplaying VHS' run as well (15-20 years). You're also forgetting the "challenge" VHS faced before DVD came along. Laserdiscs were a much higher quality than VHS, but they didn't catch on at all. I really don't think people are all that excited at the prospect of, YET AGAIN, switching formats when most people are within 5 years of the last switch. Expect DVD to approach VHS years as the dominant format.
