they have 50GB of storage!!!

that just shows laziness...racing games on a DVD9 have more than 8 maps, so why cant a game on a Blu-Ray disc?

You know what even more funny ? the devs said that this game couldn't fit on a DvD9 ( Sony  ) .

That's hilarious.

I'm beginning to think the extra space will never make a credible difference. Resistance supposedly required 19 gbs, and MS was 17gb or so I thought, yet both games are nothing different then any other dvd game. As for BD and HD-DVD movies, they also add no more extra features then standard dvds.

This shows that having more space doesn't magically translate into bigger games. You still have to put the code onto a disk.

They was maybe in a rush to get the game ready for launch.... there is nothing to stop them releasing other levels on the download service in the future!

So they are going to make people pay for content that should have been in the game to begin with. Great! lets everybody support that!

The extra space on a blu ray isn't for adding more features. Its for allowing more data from the movie being able to be put on the disc allowing for a higher quality in picture, sound etc. If you thought the extra space on blu rays for movies was to add extra menu features than you are highly wrong. Sure they may add some but primarily the space is too provide a better pictuer and better sound quality through there being more data on that disc

biggest advantage of the large capacity disc is being able to put uncompressed data onto it

that means when your playing gears of war, you wouldnt have as many textures loading mid way into the map

laziness? i don't think they were lazy. they had plenty of time considering the ps3 delay. i'm guessing that the ps3 is harder to develop for than sony will admit. even for first party.

that has more to do with how much video memory you have. not how much disc capacity.

There's a lot of reasons for the lack of content:

-Focusing on the desert environment and vehicle models rather than modes

-Pressed for time

-Inexperience with the PS3 programming

-Figured it didn't really matter that much compared to other stuff like online (which is half true)

And besides, maybe they might do something crazy with a patch that adds more stuff to the mix. You never know.

I can just about guarantee that we will see a lot of games that, if you just look at things like graphics, sound, and overall gameplay, should be rated high, flop due to lack of content this gen. Developers are realizing that almost anything can be added to their game after it releases through online updates, so they will rush their product in order to meet deadlines.

It sounds like laziness to me too, which is a shame because they seem to have made the actual gameplay work brilliantly; not to mention the graphics.

Which according to alot of sheep here...that should be all that matters.

For a movie, it comes down to having an HD bitrate, which is not possible on a standard DVD. However, with a video game, the HD is in the form of textured layers, which are able to be compressed very well into a DVD.
Movies cannot do "true" HD in DVD form, but games do not share that issue, as compression in games is much easier to do with less noticible effect.

That makes no sence... all games load textures in the middle of a game. In gears its just noticable, due to the lame stages of the engine. * hoping its fixed by UT* not to mention the textures are loaded into the RAM and then moved on when needed. The disc size, has nothing to do with it....

Fine, allow me to correct that misconception. Sheep say graphics are not as important as gameplay, not that gameplay is everything. Content makes a huge difference as well.

You will still have texture pop with PS3, since the 2x Blu-Ray drive has trouble streaming data quickly from disc to the RAM. Both have advantages and disadvantages. It is really up to individual Devs to make the strengths work and minimize the disadvantages.

i see, i thought most developers had to develop better compression techniques due to the small capacity disk

i thought thats how they do it, kind of package it, like winzip and it expands in during the game
