99% of games on the market today have multiplayer. Bioshock, however, did not. It was geared towards a singleplayer experience. But the sequel? It'll have multiplayer.

At least, it will according to the latest issue of Game Informer. Problem is, the mag's big story on the BioShock sequel only says it will feature multiplayer. It doesn't say what kind of multiplayer. So while earlier rumours suggested co-op play would make an entrance in the series, in the absence of any real details you can speculate there'll be plasmid-fuelled deathmatches and nobody can say you're wrong.

Yet.

True, I like online multiplayer but its a waste of time for Bioshock, I can't see it pulling people from playing Halo 3, the CoD series, Killzone 2 etc.

To be honest not every game needs to have multiplayer to make it a great game. Did Bio 1 need it? In my opinion not at all. Granted it could make a wonderful addition. I just hope they dont force it and end up creating a crappy experience. Time will tell I suppose.

The SEQUEL is made by a different TEAM, they can do whatever the heck they want to the game...but I am worried.

I loved Bioshock and I just am worried, is all. Remember I said this with Bioshock being a multiplat game, this isn't a fanboy comment, it's a legitimate concern for a franchise I love.

Let me be also clear about something else :

Bioshock never needed Multiplayer to be awesome, and Bio 2 doesn't need it either. I would rather these guys focas on the CORE of the game.

Multiplayer is not a bad thing at all. But I kinda don't see the point really. Dosen't seem like something to put that money to.

It doesn't really need it but it's not a huge tragedy if resources aren't taken away from the single-player.

Its the fanboy masses who are ruining these games, they see something they Think( thats the key word) is needed, something that takes the devs more time and distracts them from the primary focus at hand. It ends up making most if not all Sp's worse

Why are so many of you dismissing the multiplayer aspect so soon?? For all we know it could be amazing. Of course that also means the multi could fall flat... But why be doom and gloom when we can be cautiously optimistic? ;)

Looks like the developers took all the reviewers complaint of lack of multiplayer to heart. But in a Generation where fps's are almost required to have a multiplayer component to score and sell well who can really blame them?

Lets just hope it isn't tacked on or takes away from the sp campaign

Because as an FPS bioshock delivered for me and many people on all fronts, i've played through it at least 10 times, (PS3 and 360) the thing is why does the developer need to fold over to meet the needs of whining masses, when they could easily be spending the time, money and innovation on an even better SP expierience.

The first Bioshock was a hit, so much so that they're making a sequel. That means they may be devoting more talent to the sequel, which means the SP may not suffer like you are predicting. For all we know the multi may add quite a bit. What I don't need is more competative multiplayer action. What I can't get enough of, is cooperative play in most single player campaigns. We'll have to wait and see how it all pans out, but I don't think we really have enough information either way to claim uber or fail.

Some games, just can't do multiplayer. This is a prime example of one of them. BTW rehash FTL! bioshock was good, and that's it.

I can fully concor on all levels with that statement, Co-op Is something that is dying and you dont see in many games any more. So I wouldnt mind that as much, Competetive play I could do without like you said

Ken Levine said a really smart thing when people were complaining about no multiplayer in BioShock. He said that he thought it was a waste to try and spend time and funds into a multiplayer mode that will just get washed along the wide stream of multiplayer games. I had hoped the same logic would stay true for BioShock 2, but I guess not.

Exactly games like Army of Two, Reistance 2, pretty much anythiung that comes with MP does get swept under the rug, by bigger games like halo, Call Of Duty.

What if it fits into the story? I don't want a RE5 style partner always tagging along in the SP, but perhaps they fit another character in with a plot twist for co-op fun? Just a thought.

The first game was so story driven that I couldn't put it down (like a good book). But I doubt they can duplicate that experience in the sequel. I will be very disappointed if they sacrifice good writing for "bigger, better, and more". Co-op would have defeated the purpose of what Bioshock was all about. I will be suprised if they can make another Bioshock and keep the originality.

Why not? Just because there will be a multiplayer element? Do you know something we don't about how the multi will work? I'm just asking for reasonable explanations for all the negativity towards pretty much every Bioshock 2 announcement :P

I expect the gameplay to be stronger, but I also expect the story to be much weaker, and the over all sprit to be lacking. I expect that Everything that made BioShock original great and made the argument that academics should study video games just like books... will be gone. (A professor of mine, made that argument because of BioShock)

It's not the MP announcement which makes me think the spirit won't be there, (Though it helps) its more of the question where are they going to go with the story, because what I've read so far seems to stray from what made BioShock great into the realm of what can we throw in to make the fans happy, even if it doesn't mesh with the meanings expressed by the first game.

That's fair, but I personally do not believe we know enough yet to say one way or the other. We'll have to learn more. I am somewhat curious as to how the sequel will pan out.. I just hope it's not too predictable... *mac already has a thought as to what happens...*
