Upcoming Bioshock Infinite (2012 release PS 3 / Xbox 360 & PC ) is going to have a satisfying single player experience over other FPS games coming out ( F.3.A.R , Dues Ex Human Revolution , Resistance 3 , Battlefeild 3 , Modern Warfare 3 , Rage , Prey II , The Darkness II ETC ) .

Why ?

Irrational games ( Makers of System shock , Swat and original Bioshock ) are developing Bioshock Infinite . And Horror story setting now in Space ( Hanging City on air ) .

Debate :)

Umm, apart from the first Bioshock was a dribbeling mess and a dumbed down, toothless version of SS2?

I really like those guys, and Irrational did an awesome job on systemshock 2 back then, and I really like what I see from Bioshock infinate, but to use systemshock as a measuringstick is pretty bad.

It failed as an rts game, it failed as an fps game, the only people really impressed by it, were people who started playing games this gen. It did not have amazing 1off writing, nor a cast of really good characters.

It bugged me, because I know that they were capable of doing so much more, but have this odd idea that they were told to hold back in the name of mass appeal.

So do I look farwards to Infinate? Yeah, sure I do. Will it be better then the fps games you listed, or even a game like Deus Ex: HR (its closest bretheren of games comming out in the near future)? Not likely, if it is going to be the same lack of effort that bioshock was.

It's not in space. :o

It's too far from release date to tell anything and I haven't seen any raw game-play footage.

"Levine stated they took some inspiration from Stanley Kubrick's The Shining and David Lynch's Blue Velvet, transforming an "antiseptic environment" into the "scariest ******* place [one's] ever seen"

This sounds pretty good. I think this game might really something special. It might beat out those games when it comes to story and unique setting. But it will get beaten on other terms, graphics, multi-player, core game mechanics, ect... I guess it depends for what do you care the most.

I'm so happy they delayed it till 2012. Take your time 2k (or who ever is making it) and bring us something special, just like Bioshock was back in 07.

I might be interested if they manage to fix the floaty gameplay mechanics that Bioshock (and the Xcom trailer) had, although even then...I'm not really convinced that they can pull off good shooters anymore. Guess we'll have to wait and see - the game is still a fair way off.

Bioshock Infinite has the potential to be one of the best games every made but one thing it can't fall into is being too scripted. After watching that gameplay video a while back it looked scripted to high heaven, lets hope it doesn't fall into that trap.

Better setting, atmosphere and story won't elevate the SP over another with more diversity and better core mechanics.

i'd say the atmosphere is definitely creepier than dead space, at least the original bioshock. neither are really scary so to say.

Makes sense. The act of shooting a gun was unsatisfying and boring.

This is how I felt too. I also found the powers to be far less satisfying then initial trailers and such made them seem. They said using the powers would be so unique that you would want to save and load to re-do situations in different ways with different powers, I found it a chore to get through some the first time. The shooting felt weird to be sure too.

It made no sense. It explained nothing so i wanted to debate rather than just "wonky and unsatisfying" which could mean anything from frate rate, Animation, Controls, shooting...

Shooting wasnt the mainmechanic though in the game. You had the choice to choose between shooting, Adam Abilities and Melee-ing all at once! Shooting alone wouldnt get you far so mixing it up with Adam Abilities. If you wanted a straight up FPS then Bioshock isnt the game for you and should stick with CoD.

I see Don't like something in Bioshock> Go play COD you casuaslL~!! You can't go trough the game without using guns and the shooting mechanics are not very good. Nothing can really excuse it.

that seems more like an opinion and not a true core mechanic problem. most of the reports i've read praised bioshock's smooth framerate and shooting mechanics, but if it felt wonky and unsatisfying to you i can understand why you would be apprehensive. it's just that the majority thoroughly enjoyed shooting splicers in the face. very satisfying indeed.

If it's more like Bioshock than Bioshock 2, then i'll be happy, that is in terms of story. In terms of gameplay, it's Bioshock 2 all the way.

That was more of a tech demo, showing off what the gameplay could potentially look like. I don't think the real game will play as smoothly as that did.

Well, that's the most common complaint of Bioshock and it was a problem for me as well. It's cool that you liked it though. Framerate doesn't really have anything to do with it.

Well, even though I don't know any other FPSs coming out in 2012, I agree :P.

Edit: Even if it doesn't have the best feedback or graphics, I think it will in enthrall players with its world, mechanics and story better than most games next year.

Bioshock was okay, it really lacked re-playability and Bioshock 2 was mediocre. Not really looking that forward to Bioshock Infinite.

the shooting mechanics were fine, they worked, you point at something, you shoot, everyhing was responsive. So the mechanics were fine. I think your not able to seperate your opinion of the design behind the mechanics, The guns weren't supposed to be the end al be all, so they are underpowered compared to ohter shooters, Most people that are playing this game like a straight shooter aren't going to like that. I played through mostly as a melee character, I actually beat down a few big daddies, this is a thinking man's game and thats what the mechanics/design focus on.

No, no it's not. It's extremely dumbed down System Shock 2 where you can't really die and you're never punished for anything. It had a lot of potential, but it's ultimately lost because the core action doesn't work really well. It has other strengths other than the gameplay though.
