Only gamers who have beaten both games post. Which game do you think is better? I did not put up a poll because crazy fanboys that did not beat both games will contaminate it. The reason I'm comparing these games is Xplay and Spike tv both gave Bioshock GOTY. I disagree

First of all let me say I enjoyed both games tremendously and think both are a real credit to their respective genres. Both were extremely fun to play and hard to put down and both offer great environments that really draw you in to the game and offer great, new gameplay.

I think SMG should win GOTY here. I would give Bioshock a 9 and Super Mario Galaxy a 10. What do you guys think?

Both are amazing.
I simply loved Bioshock's atmosphere and it's art sty.le, plus the story catched me.
Galaxy on the other hand, is really something completely new and fresh. It's art styl.e was also amazing, and the music sublime.

It's a tough one for me, but Galaxy wins by an inch.

What do you expect? X-play is a joke and Spike only likes games that cater to the "tough man Chuck Norris" type deal. I agree Bioshock was an amazing game but other games are better than it and deserve it more.

The two sites you mentioned TC, are a joke and obviously they prefer American targeted games.

I like them both alot, but to me, its BioShock.

Galaxy is great, no doubt, but I was so sucked into Rapture and its story that I cannot think of any other gaming experiance that tops it to me.

Its a great story, the game has atmosphere on top of atmosphere, the audio diaries are sublimly acted, and each character is fleshed out. It also contains many instances where I was just floored by how cinematic it was, including a few "boss battles" and the "good ending". I am actually waiting a while, and I plan to replay it all to enjoy it further, but I am letting the memory of it fade a bit, so hopefully it retains some of the "bite" the first play through had.

This does not take away from Mario being an amazing title, since I declared to myself what an amazing game it is every time I beat a level, but to me, BioShock was just a more gripping, intense game. Both games are must plays, at least to try them, for anyone considering themselves a gamer, IMO. Actually, 2007 has been filled with such titles.

Is there anything wrong with that? Would you expect Famitsu to prefer anything other than Japanese targeted games? Every site is obviously going to have biases and opinions on what is great and what is not, as nothing and no one is free from bias.

But to declare that one is "wrong" while another is "fine" is kind of short sighted. If a site/person finds something to be a better experience, that is their opinion. You don't have to agree with it. That is the beauty of opinion, but to call them a "joke" because they disagree with you is a bit off. Just take it for what it is, but realize not everyone will agree with your opinion, and that does not make theirs "wrong" anymore than it makes yours "right". They are just different.

Bioshock was ultimately disappointing, while Super Mario Galaxy lived up to its hype.

I would say that SMG is more deserving of the GOTY award than Bioshock.

I appreciate your input. Bioshock was an outstanding and polished game and the best and most original fps I've played in a while. Iplan on re-playing both games (Luigi's turn and harvesting the little sisters). By good ending do you mean the one where you saved the girls?

Yes. To me, that was the most cinematic ending I have witnessed in gaming, and I have been gaming for 20 years. It felt like a legitimate reward for saving them all, and it made it all come together in a way that felt emotionally and logically "right". I just loved it.

Its not a perfect game, but playing through it, I could not set it down, and none of the flaws even registered with me, I was just engrossed in the Rapture mythos.

bioshock was amazing .. great storyline, presentation, art style and atmosphere

SMG was amazing too .. great presentation, art style, level design, gameplay, music

i really enjoyed both, but SMG only just beats bioshock IMO because i had a bit more fun with it

I didn't have much fun with Bioshock at all.
And then i read about all these people saying it's so awesome because of..
atmosphere, art, visuals, progression.
But that's not why i play the game!
It really confuses me because my experience has been so different!
I liked Metroid C much much more than Bioshock.
In fact, if they removed all the gameplay between Metroid C's bosses i still would have preferred Metroid C!
SMG was a bit better even.

Bioshock, hands down. The atmosphere was just killer, and though the story could have been tweaked a bit here and there it wa far and above another 'The-princess-has-been-kidnapped mario platofrmer'.

I think the responses are interesting as almost everyone who is saying Galaxy states that Bioshock is great game as well, but many of the people saying Bioshock are saying stuff like "Bioshock>> any wii game" and "platformers suck."

Anyways, personally Bioshock is one of those great games that only come once or twice a year while Galaxy is one of those genre-defining games that only comes once a generation or so. Also, many people keep on overlooking how similar Bioshock is to System Shock II, if more people played System Shock II there wouldn't be nearly as much talk about how unique and fresh Bioshock is, and I think uniqueness is a very important factor when considering GOTY. Galaxy on the other hand takes platformers to a level they've never been before.

You're right, those people ignored my opening post and are just haters and did not even play SMG. Those kinds of people imo are just band wagon jumpers and not even real gamers so I just ignore them.

its kind of hard to compare the two. one is a very deep game with a good atmosphere. and one is a game that puts a smile on your face and leaves it their the whole way threw. I'm gonna go with SMG though but it really just depends on the type of person you are.

Bioshock was a nice game, and fun to play, and while it was an original IP, it wasn't anything extrodinary IMO. There was little customization in the RPG aspect, you had no real item managements, and over all... it became pretty easy when you leveled up and equipped the right tonics. Big Daddies were no threat, and I'd kill them if they had a ton of money or maybe the ammo. (Though controlling one was very nice... :) )

SMG to me was better I felt, mainly because my experience with Bioshock was ruined by some of the worst frame rate and freezing ever in a "AAA" game I've ever played.

BioShock is a beacon for gaming, and managed to shine out through all the shooters that we have seen this generation. Galaxy was just fun though. It's level design was amazing - other then that, it was just Mario's next game.

Sorry but Bioshock is HORRIBLE, it was kiddyfied/n00bified beyond belief so that it actually sells more than 100k with the WIi killing the industry

Last time they made the series hardcore was SS2 and that was a miserable failure in sales. BTW, SS2 is the greatest shooter ever.

SMG is the better game. I love Bioshock, but at times feel some of the praise is undeserved.

I'm 90 stars in and I dont see how SMG could get any better.
Luigi is unlocked once you get 120 stars as mario. that'll give ou something to strive for.
as for the topic itself....I could never really get into bioshock. Little too boring IMO. But I'm not that much of an FPS fan to begin with *the metroid prime series being an accept seeing as it relys more on exploration and puzzle solving*

I've had more fun with Mario so far and I am only 40 or so stars in. I finished Bioshock in November.

The gameplay in Bioshock was kind of dull. It amazes me that they were unable to make shooting stuff enjoyable. Buy this game if you want amazing atmosphere and a cool story.

It is a tie for me. Both Games I consider perfect 10s (out of the 11 I've ever considered worthy). I don't understand all the hate Bioshock gets here, SS2 is one of the other games I consider 10 worthy, and I like it and Bioshock about the same. Both SMG and Bioshock have a few probs (SMG has varying difficulty, and I hate losing all my lives when I shut my Wii off) and Bioshock has Vita Chambers. Neither is enough to sway my opinion of them being 10 worthy though.

Mass Effect is a very very close 3rd to these 2.

Its been almost 2 years since someone gave a post to this topic. I can't afford both systems so i have a ps3. I'm not gonna say which 1 is better cause i'm not able to play galaxy. I can't think of any flaws with bioshock. the game is a 10 in my book. I'm more of a fan of 2d marios although mario64 was fun. I would like to play galaxy but thats not gonna happen for me till the wii gets more good games to justify buying the system. I really don't think it will be better than bioshock. as good as mario64 was it still had some control problems due to that n64 controller, and camera issues. bioshock almost feels like an rpg with atom for upgrades exploration is great the setting in the 50's. its a game unlike any other. its my 2007 goty

100% bioshock. The story and atmosphere blew me away. Galaxy was fun and refreshing (use of wii-mote and the gameplay itself), however, the levels didn't feel 'right'.. while there were many different planets to check out, it didn't really feel like i had a huge world to explore

I love both games. BioShock has a really good atmosphere and 'disturbing/creepy' vibe to it which is great. Also the voice acting is really well done and overall its a very well polished game. However, which of the two did I have more fun with? Galaxy, easily. Galaxy is just amazing. I love platformers and it kind of reinvented the way one thinks about or plays platformers.

If you can't find a single flaw in BioShock, you aren't trying very hard. The mediocre gunplay should stick out like a sore thumb, considering you do it much more than I ever thought you would.

You can't realy compare the two, it's like Pepsi Vs. The Rankor. it's just totally incomparable.

No its not. The Rankor would own the Pepsi, only a Jedi can defeat The Rankor.

Bioshock has a few flaws but it's still in the top 5 games for me this gen along with COD4, Fallout 3, Mass effect, Uncharted. I think Mario Galaxy is a good game but not in my top 10 this gen. I still think the 2D Marios are the best by far.
