[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"]Blackisle may be dead, but I'd still take Planescape Torment and Fallout 2 over anything Bioware ever did(this is coming from someone that did enjoy Mass Effect 2 btw)StealthSting

So did I. Sure I have my complaints on the game: Level Design, Cities, RPG elements and on quite a bit of the plot etc, but the game was more than a worthy experience imo--I found it fun.

I find it far from being Bioware's worst like many people think. I just don't understand how someone can speak ill of Bioware's latest games--series like Mass Effect or even Dragon Age on level design etc and then praise Kotor to hell and back... I just don't get it...

I think DragonAge is awful, and ME2 is better as a shooter with ghetto RPG elements than a RPG as it is. at KoToR would be cool if the battle system wasn't so unsatisfying. I'm sorry, but there using light sabres. Why the hell do they think I want number crunching combat with light sabres? let me just go buck wild with that thing

I don't think KotOR even comes close to Dragon Age or Mass Effect. Everything KotOR did, Dragon Age and Mass Effect did way better. For it's time, it may have been as good, but it does not hold up.

Tell me about it

I'm not a big fan of Dragon Age either, but the only way I could possibly say that Kotor is a better game than Dragon Age is because of the length--Dragon Age is too damn long for its own good XD.

I agree, I don't think Bioware is that bad in relation to last gen with of course the exception of a few titles.

The only thing I could possibly say that Kotor did better than Dragon Age was perhaps in story, and even then, I might actually argue otherwise. Well, unless you were really into the plot twist of the game(from where I'm coming from, I found extremely predictable).

Not to mention that was pretty much the only interesting thing about the game for me story wise. I found the story in Kotor to be very poorly constructed, where progress in the main story ark only advanced through dream sequences... it was pretty much going to x planets and get star map and it only started to really develop at the point of the plot twist. Untill you actually reached that point you only had some character development from your team to hold on to, which imo wasn't even that well constructed to begin with.

I see people talking a lot of crap about Mass Effects story(hell I'm one of them), or reviews stating that it's a complete rip off of Star Wars(why Star Wars I'll never know) but to be extremely frank, I find the storytelling in the Mass Effect games far better than what I found in Kotor, on pretty much most areas really.

Black isle games felt more unique. Bioware was making D&D fantasy games and Black Isle was making fallout and planescape.

BioWare by a mile. Black Isle hasn't even been a studio for years, this whole system wars nostalgia thing where people think it earns them street cred to know about the past is getting tiresome. KOTOR, Mass 2, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights... for the win. Versus Fallout 1 and 2 and Planescape. Icewind Dale sucked.

Black Isle by a longshot. They basically invented the RPG gaming genre, helped shape it into what it is today.

BioWare has recently had an extremly high pedigree (ME,ME2, Kotor) and I haven't seen much if anything from Black Isle recently

[QUOTE="Wolfetan"]

What about Obsidian vs Bioware.

I really wish Obsidian was given a good publisher with full freedom to make an awesome game again.

jasonharris48

Obsidian needs better programmers IMO. But I do find their games to contain deeper RPG elements than Bioware titles this gen.

They need more time for polish, really. Using the Fallout 3 engine probably didn't do them any favors either. :P

Black Isle, I preferred their stories, they weren't cut and paste and put in a different paper (unlike Bioware SAVE THE COUNTY\WORLD\GALAXY!!). And back when Fallout and Baldur's Gate were released I tended to prefer BIS' gameplay it wasn't as hectic as DnD rule system (though admittedly I was too lazy to read the manual and figure things out).
