Been waiting since 2006 for this!

Great news! I think they are making the right decision releasing the mod in 2 parts, if they take another year or two people might lose interest.
Yeah, I saw it, very nice, but I also heard somewhere it'll be incomplete, it won't have Xen levels. They'll get released in 2015! :P

lol could be. Strange how we haven't seen any screenshots of the Zen levels.
Only the last 4 chapters won't be there, while the first 13 are done. Extremely impressive for a free project made by completely self-funded people who have full-time jobs. I imagine that the last 4 chapters are especially difficult to due limited resources. There is a lot of resources from HL2 that can be used for the Black Mesa section, but Xen never showed up in the sequel. On September 14th you will see the first release of Black Mesa! This will include our re-envisioning of Half-Life all the way up to Lambda Core.

I think I've read somewhere they are not reusing anything from HL2. But the organic looking environment of Xen is undoubtedly harder to recreate.

I'm wondoring what Xen will look like in Source engine. It'll be very weird, and I doubt they could pull it off without fully changing the art style

I could be wrong but I think they are using the HL2 models of the aliens that were in both HL1 and 2 (headcrabs, vortigaunts, etc.)
I just played through Half Life for the first time about a month and a half ago. I have no real desire to play it again though.

It's not a new game :/
My only concern is that the source engine is now quite old. Sure, it's a big step up from that utterly lazy attempt that was Half-life: Source, but based on the initial reaction I see thus far, it doesn't seem to be all that relevant anymore (or at least as much as it would have been if it came out even just 3 or 4 years prior). It also makes me wonder what is going to happen to the unfinished storyline in the Half-life 2 arc (new engine/focus or just indefinite suspension?).
Either way, I will definitely be playing, as soon as I can get my PC to actually boot into Windows again. In addition to the Xen chapters, I am really hoping that they streamlined "On a Rail" and "Residue Processing". Parts of those chapters were uninspiring and boring.
