Ha ha ha. Hermits, you realize this game has been in development for over 4 years now right? It's never ever going to come out. The people who play Half Life talk about Black Mesa Source like Duke Nukem Forever, it's never comming. That and Sven Co-op 4.0.

It's not a game, it is a mod (well, a lot more than that) by a community team.

3rd party game. And basically this is a total conversion. So in itself it's basically a game.

To think, its just a mod too. Thats why Valve games = win. You essentially get at least five or six more games for every Valve game you buy :P

Total conversion again. and Yes it was in development like immediately after Half Life 2. Or at least it was announced then. They are making this because they were dissapointed by Half Life:Source and I don't blame them. Counter Strike is a mod, so does that mean it's not a game? Same with all those other Half Life mods that became full retail games?

A total conversion is still a mod. Thats why in the "mods" sections of many sites, you find the total conversions. Surprising, I know.

I never played the original Half-Life (would have been about 10 at the time) so I'm really looking forward to this. Mods are the main reason I like PC gaming. Very impressive, it could easily be Valve's own work!

The Mod team working on Black Mesa Source are one heck of an incredible dev team. In fact, even the music posted on their main website is custom made and full of win. It's definitely retail purchase worthy. I'd buy it in a heartbeat in order to support the modding community and encourage more high quality total conversions such as this. I've been eying it for 2 years now : It's about time they release a significant update. They can take all the time they need, we can wait : we want them to give us the ultimate Half-Life experience.

Stop being so childish. Your attitide is really saddening; this is something developed for FREE by a group of gamers, and you go bashing it, possibly because of some misplaced console jealousy. I can understand mocking things that are in development for years that we're expected to PAY for, but this is something these guys are doing for the love of it, and giving the world for free.

There's probably a way to support them. A lot of mod teams have donation methods or other means of supporting their team on their websites. Take a look around their site if you're interested. I'm sure you can come across something.

I never said Black Mesa Source was a full retail game. And I don't get where your exactly coming from that all those are mods. Counter Strike, and Op force, can all be bought stand alone by themselves without the original Half Life, and with a mod if you REALLY wanted to, strip out all the assests(Textures, models, entities) and rebuild all your assests from the ground up and the only thing similar between your game and the original game you built it from is the engine itself.

This is very impressive, but I wish less mod teams tried to make super high quality mods. It makes them take forrrreeevvvveerrrrrr to release since the teams usually aren't very large and they only have a couple hours a day to work on it.

Oh, you mean Counter Strike didn't begin its life as a mod made by a bunch of amateur developers who weren't a part of Valve? Thats odd, I could've sworn it had been a mod. Well you clearly know your Half-Life history better than me :|

This is looking ridiculously professional. Modding community my ass, more like developer community. My only regret is that I have boneitis. And that it's Half-Life. Don't really wanna play it all over again, been there done that ya know. It's sooo 90's.

You have absolutely no idea right? I laugh at this and many people who I have played with on Half Life mocked this game like Sven Co-op 4.0 because it's never coming. And sure your opinion is entitled for what I think about these people, but I am equally as entitled to mock them for trying such a ludicrously ambitious attempt as remaking the whole Half Life 1 and then some with the source engine. I am impressed by what they have been able to achieve so far in the trailer, but to me and to other people this is essentially Duke Nukem: Forever.

Your a good person to ask, how will this apply to half life if you have it on a PC, i have the one updated version from steam (not really a PC buff) but if i DL this mod its like a new skin on my HL game?

Oh, you mean Counter Strike didn't begin its life as a mod made by a bunch of amateur developers who weren't a part of Valve? Thats odd, I could've sworn it had been a mod. Well you clearly know your Half-Life history better than me :|

They were, now their stand alone. Counter Strike 1.6 and Day of Defeat 1.5 do not require the original Half Life to be played. Quit twisting your words, You said "Counter Strike, Opposing Force, Team Fortress, whatever, are all still considered mods because they require the original game in order to be played." Nothing about how they begain their life as a mod, All i'm saying is that statement if false and you can buy Counter Strike 1.6 without need of the original Half Life. Which in turn your statement "Other games like TF2, CSS, Portal are not mods because you buy them by themselves and they run on their own code" Is contradictory. As Counter Strike 1.6 can run by itself.

[QUOTE="FirstDiscovery"][QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"] Even though GMod 10 is good enough to warrant the price of a full game, let alone a mere $10?Animal-Mother
Im cheap, id rather buy a used game:)

Your a good person to ask, how will this apply to half life if you have it on a PC, i have the one updated version from steam (not really a PC buff) but if i DL this mod its like a new skin on my HL game?

Basically, in their FAQ, they say you need Half Life 2 and Counterstrike Source. Basically, im not 100% sure but even though the older Source games may not be running on the newest Source technology, Valve still update it for their SDKs, so everyone has it to use and also experience it.

Thats what the Black Mesa guys are doing, they started work on the older engine and as Valve updated it, they implemented these features in. Also, their FAQ happens to go on to say that you might be able to play with ANY Source game installed, or just Half Life 2. I hope they clarify

So in other words, if you have Half Life 2, then youll be able to play it

I think you're going to need Half-life 2.

Wow, this looks absolutely amazing. So good in fact that I would pay good money for it. It even looks better than HL2. I can see that it does a good job of bringing back that classic half-life 1 feel, and they did some fantastic presentation updates as well. I can't wait.
