Poll Black Mesa vs Mafia Remake vs RE2 remake. which is best remake among those? (27 votes)

Black Mesa 11%
Resident Evil 2 89%
Mafia Definitive eidtion 0%

Hello friends

Black Mesa

No Caption Provided

Mafia Definitive edition

No Caption Provided

Resident Evil 2

No Caption Provided

So among those 3 Remakes which one is better remake among those release today?

For me its easily Black Mesa. a fan made remake better than many AAA mainstream games today. further more its remake as good as original game ie Masterpiece.

Resident Evil 2 remake is better than orginal game but no whear near close to RE7. RE2 remake play better due to not having tank controls. and it also looks best among 3.

Mafia Remake is inferior to original in every way. lost charm of original but still nailed the atmosphere and story elements.

in short

Resident Evil 2 - Better Remake better version of original

Black Mesa - Best Remake of all time almost as good as Original

Mafia - Inferior Remake.

so what is best among those? lets discuss and vote.

If we're talking about remakes, Demon's Souls must be mentioned. Its a better remake than all of the games above.

Of those games Resident Evil 2 is the best.

But I respect Black Mesa alot for what it represents, I don't think it's as good as OG Halflife though.

Don't think Remake 2 is as good as OG Resident Evil 2 either.

RE2 remake play better especially with KB/M. original RE2 was dated even for its time.

Remake is better version of original by far. tank control suck.

You should play RE 1 HD, then Zero. Then go straight to RE 2 and RE 3 Remake to get better understanding of RE lore. You will also want to know about Umbrella corporation, Bioweapon's, Chris background before playing RE VIII The Village.

Take it slow in beginning, you can't change the tank controls or camera. But if you play through the whole story the characters, story will get your interest. It did with everyone, i started with RE 4 on PS 2 , then played RE HD , Zero on PC years later.

@ghosts4ever:

Resident Evil 2 Remake is an actual remake. So it wins by default. Though, Resident Evil 2 Remake is more like an Uncharted version of the original. Quality-wise. Take that as you will.

Shadow of the Colossus by far.

Black Mesa was a disappointment, RE2 was good as a remake I just didn't feel that as a game was that great, Mafia I haven't played it yet but want too.

How did Black Mesa get mixed in with Mafia in this poll? Black Mesa has like what....13 people max working with it for like 10+ years + community feedback compared to a whole studio in a year or two?

Am i seeing ghost praise RE2R? What's happening????? Give him 6 months and he will discover how amazing TLOU2 is. Be ready for a bunch of TLOU2 threads from ghost in 2021.

I prefer to stick with the original HL and has age like fine wine and so with that, my vote goes to RE2 Remake cause it's very and I mean very hard to go back and replay OG Resident Evil 2.

Love Black Mesa, but it takes a steep decline in the Interloper level.

The Xen levels in general just feel off, even if they look brilliant.

The fight against Gonarch is the true highlight of the remake and just perfectly orchestrated, both the fight, as well as the music.

@R4gn4r0k:

I have no pc strong enough to run Black Mesa so I'm actually sad that I can't really play it. From what I've seen, it looks amazing and on a professional level. But I'm not surprised that some parts like Xen felt off. It takes me back to the days of the Skyrim mods. Where you see all these beautiful graphic mods that make Skyrim look a thousand times better. But they lack the artistic direction of the Elder Scrolls series. And that's because none of the developers worked on those mods. That's kinda something that bothers me about Black Mesa. Authenticity of the project being a Valve creation.

@nepu7supastar7: Artistic direction is definitely not Black Mesas problem. It's probably the best looking Source game made, it meticouslly follows the original game while utilizing modern technology.

Though Xen itself differs greatly from Valve's Alyx interpretation, which came after. It's still visually beautiful in it's own right.

I've played none of those, and I have a hard time thinking of a good remake.

Re2 looks like the remakest remake of those three. Not sure if it's especially good though.

Black Mesa just looks like HL with better graphics. Mafia remake is pretty lazy. RE2 looks almost unrecognizable to the original, so as far as remakes go, RE2 is probably the best of the bunch.

Remakes are often pretty shit / unnecessary though. I don't play many.

By that do you mean that it has a solid artistic direction or that it looks very faithful to Valve's designs?

@nepu7supastar7: Both, really. It uses the rudimentary visuals as a frame-work. It looks professional, albeit a few years behind due to development time.

Man, it would be awesome if those guys that made Black Mesa did something like remake Shadow Man. I bet they could! Though Black Mesa still sounds like something worth checking out too. It just sucks that it took a group of fans to make it happen. Hell of a talented group. It would be a shame if their work ends with Black Mesa.

Even parts that did look off got a graphical update. They kept working on the game even post release: finishing up the Xen levels and polishing up the Earth levels up to a similar graphical level.

Like you said: very faitful and at the same time artistically pleasing.

But when I look back at what Valve did (and Uninspired, I hope you had the chance to check out Absolute Zero). It's all about iteration and trying out ideas and see if they work. And if you get an idea that works polish it up until it's ready for release.

Valve had loads and loads of ideas and cut those that didn't work and kept and polished those that did work.

But the Black Mesa team sometimes left in a bad idea, or didn't polish it up enough.

The new enemies in Xen are fun, being swarmed by them is not fun. Doing a puzzle with those bouncy platforms is fun, doing it a hundred times over is not fun.

Definitely Resident Evil 2 Remake, hands down. It’s probably the best RE game overall but it’s a really close call between it and RE4.

not in every case. RE2 remake is 10 times better than original game which is very dated. if MGS1 remake announced it will be better. games that are dated always get better remake.

but in case of Mafia. it got worse remake due to developer switch and reuse Mafia 3 asset but still much better than Mafia 3 though.

Black mesa do looks like HL because it made by 13 fans only. but its finally release this year and becomes one of the best game this year how creative it is still. a masterpiece.

Remake (2) is better in some ways, worse in others.

Without the DLC the soundtrack is fucking garbage compared to the original (masterpiece), and even when you use it doesn't fit in as well as it should.

The integration and differences between playthrough runs, rather than expanded is basically non existent.

The opening of Resident Evil 2, rather than Resident Evil 1, which eases the player in, immediately throws the player into the fire to punctuate the idea of a zombie apocalypse, it's very memorable 20 odd years on.

The Remake turns it into a gentle guided stroll with 0 tension.

Other stuff could go on about.

Like, still a fucking great game, for sure. But misses the mark in certain respects that add up.

That's a tough one because Black Mesa and Resident Evil 2 Remakes were both fantastic. I think id have to go with RE2 overall though since it was a massive improvement in almost every department and still managed to stay authentic, I was worried it would be a clunky POS like RE4. Black Mesa remake was brilliant but there were a few changes particularly in the Xen levels that I personally felt they could have left out.

As for Mafia Remake, I still haven't gotten around to playing it but I definitely will be at some point.

You're right, the ps5 cannot do RT in 60fps. It can't do the one and only next gen feature. What a disaster. Guess what? If Demon's was running on the XSX, it would have 1800p/60fps/RT. Being 33% behind is never fun, but i have to deal with it.
