Bruh! This looks extremely good wtf is this???
@hardwenzen: I have heard the government of china has been pushing for success of this game.
It's just the kind of game that they don't feel the need to censor because it promotes traditional Chinese stories and culture.
So for them it's a big win, because they can expand their precense in a key economic industry without having to deal with the issue of what they can allow to be seen or discussed.

Whatever it is, this game is extremely impressive, and you don't see me saying this often, if at all. The variety of unique assets on display and crazy unique bosses that are insanely well animated is so far ahead of what's currently available. And the visuals themselves look like some proper ass next gen that wouldn't be possible on last gen hardware. If they somehow **** this up, i don't know, my hope in any new studios will be below 0%.
@hardwenzen: I am not saying anything about the game quality since I haven't played it.
All I am saying is that there is a reason this game became a cultural phenomenon in china before even launch.
I also attribute part of the rumors mill about this game to government support. We have been exposed to news about this game beyond regular media coverage.

It became a cultural phenomenon in China? First time i hear of this.
@hardwenzen: oh yeah, it's crazy.
Steam has been unblocked temporarily and it's been first in sales in china for more than a month even though it has not launched yet.
This is to an an extent, that the china sales have frequently pushed the game to the top of global steam sales.
@Chutebox: yes, it's sunwukong.
It's a sort of monkey god that defied the heavenly order.
It's based on a "journey to the west"(xiyouji )which many consider to be the greatest traditional Chinese novel. (One of the 4 most famous traditional Chinese novels together with hongloumeng, sanguoyanyi and shuihuzhuan )
And it's a national folk heroe as well. There are countless (and I mean countless) movies, series, games, cartoons other media made about him and that has been the case for decades.
China since communism have always have overly restrictive laws that prevent any media depiction of the supernatural, but those traditional folk stories tend to be protected from them.
At the risk of sounding stupid, does the primate look have significance in China?
Goku from DBZ is based off of this character. And no, its not a joke lol.
@hardwenzen: very very loosely though.
They do have the same name though.
Son Goku is simply the japanese pronunciation of sunwukong .
And Gokus clothes have the character Wu, at the back of his shirt which is part of his name and also mean " perceive, understand"

Well yes, this is based on "Journey to the West" as this is supposed to be set in Ancient China. Monkey King is the original who inspired the likes of Goku from Dragon Ball series.
Have you ever played Enslaved: Odyssey to the West? That's kinda like it but this is the real thing that is Black Myth: Wukong.
If you write the character for sunwukong in the national search engine of china "baidu"
You will see countless depictions of the character for several types of media
https://m.baidu.com/sf/vsearch?pd=image_content&from=844b&atn=page&fr=tab&tn=vsearch&sa=tb&rsv_sug4=2680&inputT=2634&oq=%E5%AD%99%E6%82%9F%E7%A9%BA&word=%E5%AD%99%E6%82%9F%E7%A9%BA
He is national and cultural symbol of china
The graphics are very good for a PS5, and the fact that it actually seems to be running at a damn near-locked 60fps is impressive. Also, it seems like they kept some of the comedic elements of the source material as well, which is good. I so looking forward to playing it one day on PC!
Always nice to see Chinese developers doing something nice and this is one of them...which is rare to see nowadays in the gaming community.
Is this a soulsborne or souls clone or whatever? Or more like The Witcher 3?
More like god of war.

I'll just copy/paste as I already answered someone asking this question in Games Discussion
Black Myth Wukong Wukong isn't a Souls-like game. Game Science said this game doesn't consider it Souls-like, instead preferring the more generic term action RPG as it uses more spells and more on transformation.
I'm not a huge fan of Souls myself, I just tend to play whatever catches my fancy and this is a brand new game in my eyes as I'm familiar with Journey to the West material.
This looks so damn good. And yes, we need more games set in Chinese mythology or history, if CCP starts making more Singleplayer games like that it's a good sign
What do you think of this game? Black Myth Wukong looks really good.
I hope the game does well in China, mostly because it could serve as an incentive to invest in traditional single player games instead of the usual casino like shit.

The "primate look" has cultural significance across most of East, South and Southeast Asia (i.e. several billion people).
In East Asia, Sun Wukong from the Chinese epic Journey to the West is a widely celebrated monkey-like character.
In South and Southeast Asia, Hanuman from the Indian epic Ramayana is a widely celebrated monkey-like character.
That's why monkey-like heroes are fairly common in Asian pop culture. For example, Goku from Dragon Ball.
The final trailer for Black Myth: Wukong looks absolutely stunning and impressive, showcasing incredible visuals and gameplay. The excitement around the game suggests it could make a significant impact in the gaming world. It’s clear that the developers are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible!

Oh god I hope not.
Game Design wise. As in semi linear levels with side paths, additional combos you unlock, etc.
Now there is ChatGP AI spam?
These shits have been around for some time. I wonder how/who makes these bot accounts.

Even if it does, a gacha will trash its revenue like its nothing. Best case scenario is that some of those shitty gacha devs begin investing into these kind of singleplayer experiences (assuming they have the talent needed) with all the money they've made from scamming mentally ill individuals that play their gacha shit, and build a reputation of creating good singleplayer games, which will falicitate them to move their future gacha titles.
I honestly think this is one of the coolest looking games I have seen in a very long time. I just love the style. There is also so much visual variety. Both character designs and locations. It's a feast for you eyes. I think it's just spectacular!

I guess that explains why they seem to be doing this same story over and over in everything

That is why i believed in this CCP product since the beginning. No developer will put so much time and effort into unique assets, and release a bad game. You might find good looking titles that suck (The Order 1886 for example), but you just don't find any with this many unique assets on screen, which must've taken them so much time to do.

I dunno anything about who is behind the game, but it’s surely promoting Chinese culture. And it seems like it is trying to buy itself into the top tier with very high production values.
Not that it is a bad thing.
Have there been any reports of CCP backing of the studio?

No, but because the CCP owns everything in China, i just call it that lul
If you think about it, it makes sense. They don't bitch about crunch and aren't trying to preach to you about far left ideological bullshit.
China could start dominating triple A gaming in the coming years.
Is this a soulsborne or souls clone or whatever? Or more like The Witcher 3?
It is a 3rd person character action game. I doubt it will be like Souls, this doesn't look like a game where you can choose your weapon or build your character your own way or make decisions. You play a set character and follow their story, I doubt you will get to make any choices that would deviate from a specific outcome, and the gameplay will probably revolve around specific weapon/skill of that character.
@silentchief: well yes. Chinese people work a lot more than people in the west generally.
But it's not a good life.
I think you need to have a balance. I am quite a workhorse myself and I have seen in me and others like me early aging and poor health prematurely. Even more importantly, you miss important time with family and friends.
Of course bad health can happen to you for just eating poorly and not moving, but it's just another reason.
Now, I don't feel sorry for developers in the west making a 100 thousands+ a year and then complaining about too much work, and then being given paid holidays in retribution for over time.
But in China, similarly talented people get a third of that and then their overtime doesn't count at all.
You need to have a balance, or if the work is so tiresome it's just unsustainable, it needs to be extremely well paid.
Also, given that all countries compete in semi open markets. If your country creates an extremely relaxed and low pressure environment, you will just become unable to compete in global markets.
