I play hardcore 90% of the time, so adding this completed the hardcore experiance for me.

What about system wars guys? Are you a whimp who play softcore with aim assist or hardcore without?

Don't need it on PC.

Didn't know you could turn it off.

Killzone has no aim assists and I've never been as good on an FPS, as I am on Killzone so i'll give it a go.

Didn't previous COD's have the same option to turn it off? I know MW2 did. Anyway, I keep it on. Also, "whimp who play softcore with aim assist"? You're kidding me, right?

Are you getting it confused with that "lock on" thing it does in single player?

I don't think online allows aim assist off, although I must say that I haven't noticed it . SP will be aim assist off though, much prefer the option. Once you get used to it, there's no issue at all. Like RDR, I chose expert as default and have never chose to use lock on ever.

I've found that the inaccuracy of the thumb-sticks compared to the mouse is the reason why auto-aim is a necessity in console shooters.

In single player, when you aim down sights it will lock on to the closest enemy.

Aim assist is when it "assists" your normal aiming. On consoles this is normal, which is why sometimes if you're walking and an enemy is in the centre of your reticle it sometimes moves slightly towards that enemy, and when aiming at someone it slows down when aimed at the enemies body.

Yeah, if there was a mode where it was off for everyone that would be great, but intentionally crippling yourself compared to your opponents isn't too smart when playing online.

To my understanding you can't turn it off completely, turning it off in the menu only lessens the extent of the aim assist but there's still some there only on the pc can you get no aim assist at all.

OFF and not because I'm a badass and hate everyone that have it on , it's just because it screwed me a handful of times already like when I'm shooting at someone and another enemy pass by dragging my crosshair to him , it really pisses me off. This happened more time than it saved me , hence why I have it off.

I was actually going to ask. I would love if Aim Assist was turned off once you played in prestige mode. I think that would be awesome. The only reason I don't turn AA off is because I know everyone else uses it and I'd get my butt handed to me but does prestige mode force users to turn it off?

Aim-assist is lame. Sadly, I usually leave it on when playing MP as to not leave myself at a complete disadvantage. When it comes to SP though if I have the option to disable it then I turn aim-assist off and turn my sensitivity up, usually about 3/4 of the way.

This and that I will be getting it on PC, though when I go to my buds house to play on his PS3 (mini lan party of sorts), we'd usually turn off the auto-aim since it is as gay as heartbeat sensors. Can't say much about other people though.

Aim assist is one of the better parts about console shooters. Why? Because controllers suck. Not needed with a keyboard and mouse.

i like in mw2 when you see a red dot and you throw a flash bang arround the corner and it blinds them then you go out and they kill you in 2 shots while their screen is snow white.

If they weren't vag's, they would just have taken the auto aim (which is what COD has, not aim "assist") out. As it is, it just leads to the same stupidity found in RDR online.

When turned off you don't get that target tracking effect, where your sight moves with the target, at all.

If you think COD's assist is auto aim, then you didn't play Quake 3 on PS2. People just had to be in the screen and the bullets bended onto them. This is weak target tracking, which I would call assist.

No, I certainly didn't play Quake 3 on PS2, but that doesn't change how pervasive the auto aim in CoD is. Just because it's worse in another game doesn't mean it's not ridiculous in this game that we're talking about. All in all, I feel the auto-aim, lock-on, snap on silly aim bot in the MP component of BO isn't as bad as MW2, it's still silly and ridiculous, especially considering they seem to do it just to make the game more popular, which is disgusting.

I turned it off, but when it was on it showed me too many people's locations as it snaps to them through walls or what ever else is in the way. The disparity isn't as bad as RDR where there is a literal snap on aim assist, but it's still gross that this is considered anything other than a joke to players.

I remember the first time I played Halo 3, and at some point my reticle was tracking (on its own) a person as the moved towards me. I thought this was absolutely stupid and, as a result, could never take the game seriously again.

I just look at it like this. Horrendous lag + stupid auto aim = a game depended on random kill assignments, which is a laughable online game.

Agree 100%, which is why I made the thread. Console players have become spoiled and simplified, getting the feeling of reward from having the game play for you instead of actually doing any work for them selves.

turning off aim assist on consoles is just foolish. the clumsiness of the joysticks does not make it easy to aim. it's largely a fool's errand to try and earn gratification by turning it off.

Dead-Memories
exactly. also, you will be at a disadvantage to other players. the only way it would work was if it was forced on all players.

I get more personal satisfaction from knowing that I'm on the top of the scoreboard without using the help of the computer. If other people get satisfaction from letting the computer win for them, then thats their prerogative. But this is why pc fps gamers can trump any and all arguments of console fps gamers.

i dont think you understand, if everyone is equal in terms of aim assist, the better players will still always win (maybe not in COD because its unbelieveably unbalanced but in general)

Because i still have to aim regardless, that aim assist isn't going to help snipe someone in BC2 when he is on the other side of the map. It's called ASSIST for a reason.

turning off aim assist on consoles is just foolish. the clumsiness of the joysticks does not make it easy to aim. it's largely a fool's errand to try and earn gratification by turning it off.

lol I don't even understand how someone could admit this and yet people still buy the game on consoles. Do people enjoy letting the computer aim for them so much that people prefer playing it on consoles just so they can eazymode their way thru?

Because i still have to aim regardless, that aim assist isn't going to help snipe someone in BC2 when he is on the other side of the map. It's called ASSIST for a reason.

Fortunately. BC2 had a trajectory sim including travel time, which meant that it wasn't just dropping the crosshairs on somebody and pulling the trigger. But in COD, in fact, the aim assist is fully active when sniping, and for good reason. The game doesn't have a ballistics sim, it pretends that bullets are rays that instantly strike their target, which is why aim assist simply makes the reticle stick on enemies and it makes them gravitate towards them. You have to kind of vaguely flick the stick in the direction of somebody, the rest of the work the computer does for you. In a game like BC2, honestly, I thought the sniping metagame was sick, so if that's what you do more power to you.

I dont think you have sniped in black ops before, it's not as rewarding anymore, you actually have to aim.
