Well at least activision was smart enough not to leave those out a second time. But with hefty competition from many devs who are all promoting their dedicated servers and such I'm pretty sure they were basically forced to putting back these things.

Treyarch are a very diverse and solid dev.

If they could get away from Activision and CoD and make an original IP, it could be gold.

Treyarch, I'm not a fan.

Also, it's Activisions yearly game...and it's ACTIVISION, so I'm not hyped at all.

SolidTy

Because activision actually directs the game and writes all of the code. The only thing they screw up is the DLC.

IW was the one who made MW2 suck. They decided to go with the overly dramatic story, they decided on the killstreaks and perks, they decided on IW Net, it was them who decided the PC didn't need anything for it to sell.

Doesn't matter, It's Activision who I've been successfully boycotting since 2008. Now, when I do buy an Activision product, which is rare, it's used. Like MW2 and COD5:W@W. Yes, IW made MW2 "suck" according to some, but guess what? Even a sucky COD game like MW2 was still AAA! In the end, people can clearly see by playing the two companies games and comparing like I did OR just take the the Metacritic scores of both companies COD games that still reflect that IW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Treyarch.

Not that I'm a fan of annual games, like COD has become.

Besides, IW has had known issues with Activision before the known IW destroyed by Acti scandal. It's true IW's MW2 was a let down compared to MW1 to some (even though it was AAA), but ACTI had a lot of behind the scenes control, including removal of key COD4 staffers.

It's not like I'm trusting Metacritic either, I own all of Treyarchs games like COD3, W@W, and their Spidey games as well (I have more but you get the idea).

IMHO, Treyarch aren't good or deserving of my $60 and haven't made a widely accepted AAA COD game, and are riding the COD license created by IW. They are using assets created by IW. It's nice that they aren't horrible, but I don't think they are just an average - fairly decent developer that lucked out when Activision forced IW to share coding at assets with Treyarch.

I'm looking forward to the mid AA scores that this game will recieve (as everyone knows, Treyarch is the generic COD developer compared to the now defunct IW), and I won't be giving Activision a cent. Especially after what ACTI did to IW. If I do buy the game, it will be used, and it probably won't be for a long while...and most likely, I will not be buying the game ever. Treyarch sux imho.

Activision will continue to pump out yearly COD's with huge marketing budgets and people will gobble it up...just like ACTI did to Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero. With IW gone I suppose this is all people can get hyped for, but one look at TREYARCH's past efforts is all I need to be reluctant to jump on board.

Like I said before,Treyarch, I'm not a fan.

Also, it's Activisions yearly game...and it's ACTIVISION, so I'm not hyped at all.

I'm not against great games, and if this game does score exceptional, I may give TREYARCH their 10th chance with me (W@W was super broken, but that is a whole other argument). I hope this game is AWESOME, but I'm not going to jump on the Marketing Splashed out by Activision. I'm not going to do it. I offer reluctance, as I should, as I'm weary of Treyarch's broken design, and Activision's scandalous behavior. I hope Treyarch can do it right this time, but I doubt it. I've been here before, and I've had this conversation before back in 2008 with W@W. This is Deja Vu for me.

Still not getting this game, but this is good news. Pretty funny that Treyarch and Infinity Ward switch spots when it comes to PC gaming. IW gave support to PC while Treyarch was more for the consoles. Now it the other way around.

Yes I wish. That's bad? Mod tools allow a bad game to made playable, even good. UT III on ps3 had them, and I see no reason not to include them for console versions. Clearly, Sony allows them to be made available, and they take almost no effort on the part of the developer.

Clearly, the only thing they don't want to do it for is because it nullifies any point in buying the next iteration of their annual pile of crap.

UT3 modding was very limited though, people ran into all sorts of problems with limitations. You cant really mod for fixed hardware and the PS3 is no different. There were severe memory limitations with what could be done and that created all sorts of problems.

The problem is that console games tend to be designed to use all the memory they have access to, and mods tend use more memory than the regular game does. On the PC, this isnt a problem for 2 reasons, first off, you have a ton of memory (a lot of which is never even used) and even if you run into problems, you can play around with the settings.

Mods will simply never work on a closed platform. Thats why console games with map editors actually place limitations on the amount of objects that may be included,

Wow, that is great for the PC community. Is Treyarch becoming the anti-IW? Was it really Actvision that "persuaded" IW to drop dedicated servers and mod tools?

Infinity Ward - 0

I've been saying Treyarch was the better dev for the longest time. They actually offer continuous support and patches for their games while Infinity Ward releases and moves on. Glad to see their listening to the community.

jamejame

It's far from that. First you have to consider that IW invented Call of Duty and made the superb COD4, which re-invented the series and set the current standard we have today for online shooters. Ever since the beginning Treyarch has basically piggy backed off of IW's designs and game assets. Without the blue print IW has laid out since COD1, and especially COD4, I wonder where Treyarch would be? Also, look at Treyarch's separate ventures. The're not as good. They haven't designd an original game from the ground up that I find worthwhile. And if anyone remembers Call of Duty 3, made by Treyach, was the worst entry into the franchise IMO (along with Big Red One which Treyarch made as well).

---

I'm not saying Treyarch are terrible developers. Sure they have heart and listen to the community which is what successful developers need. Also, people need to know that Black Ops is being developed by 200 full staffed people. IW was around 60-70 employee (before the "incident"). That's considerably less than 90% of developers who make AAA shooters. For comparisons: Bungie = 180; Guerrilla Games = 130; DICE = 200+; Crytek = 550 (plus Cyrytek UK = 60); Valve = 225.

---

I hope that Black Ops is a great game though. I think it's gonna be a pleasant surprise for us. But to say they are straight up better than IW is wrong IMO.

really? on the lucas forums for kotor. I was told that its illegal to port the armor from kotor I to the sithlords. its only ok if you make it from the ground up. I think the nexus forums for fallout 3 could have that similar rule too. Im going to ask some of my mod friends.

I don't think you can be sued for that as long as you don't profit off of it.

Einhanderkiller

yes you can

Now that I think about it, yeah, you're probably right. But I don't think you can be sued as long as you don't distribute it.

thats basically "i cant get sued if they dont know i did it."

I've always thought Treyarch was more on the ball with the CoD franchise than IW has been for years. This confirms it.

Treyarch - 1

Infinity Ward - 0

I've been saying Treyarch was the better dev for the longest time. They actually offer continuous support and patches for their games while Infinity Ward releases and moves on. Glad to see their listening to the community.

TREAL_Since

Great Post!

I agree on all points.:P

I wish I had a point or two I could make...;)
