Im Pissed at MS for doing this. If you Americans think that the rest of the world is going to put up with this BS that MS is Bringing to the table this gen u are WRONG. The Elite does not even have WIFI or HDDVD or Blu Ray. Its pathetic. Next thing u know MS will bring out a Blu Ray Add on because HDDVD is flopping hardcore. I am Spending Spending and Spending for MS and i have had it. $399 add $480 add $200 for HDDVD and then Most likly ADD another $200 for a Blu Ray Add on. MS is Milking us dry. And Sony are not much better either charging $600 but atleast they hav'nt pulled a stunt like this.

Do the math and ayou'll see Sony isn't milking. XBL is a milker. That's where most of that money comes from.

If they were "truely" milking us, MS would include the WiFi and HD DVD drive with it, jacking up the price with features not everyone wants (well...I'm sure people want WiFi, but you understand my point)

I understand how it feel since I have an XBox premium as well. It makes my console the inferior version. Nevertheless, I still feel confortable as I don't need a bigger hard drive, I use my 21 inch monitor to play it. At least I won't have to put in $600 for a console with no games and HDMI. At least the zephr is still cheaper than PS3 60GB and at par with the 20GB.

Since I dont have the 360 I am more interested in getting this one for a mere $80 more than the 20gb premium. Besides, wired network connections are faster and more secure than wireless. It'll be in limited supply so if you want one, chances are you can't find one untill they turn the Premium into the new core and the Elite into the new premium. They are releasing it at 480 because, why the hell not? You're early adopter doesn't care about price.

In all honesty, i think its great for people who dont have a x-box 360 but sucks for those who do (like myself) A new version would have been fine in a year but the system is fairly new, bringin this out so early on really screws over the people that fave one already, no way am i buying it again.

well I thought that too. Does being American make you guilty by default of designing the price strategy for an xbox update?

you don't need to buy the black xbox if you don't want to. unlike the ps3 where if you wanna play games your stuck with 600 bucks.

I still don't get why whenever people mention the price of 360 they automatically add the hd-dvd drive as if every who buys a 360 will purchase one.

thats cows trying to make it seem more expensive than it is. and seroiusly, YOU DONT NEED THE BLACK XBOX TO PLAY GAMES. It's like the Slim PS2, its got some cool features to go with it but ultimately you don't need it if you have original xbox. Stop crying

It all depends on your perspective. If you think it is a rip off for you, then don't buy it. For some of us this is exactly what we are looking for. I am just as interested in the IPTV features that may be coming, as well as downloadable movie content (Microsoft just named an executive of Netlflix to it's board yesterday, so that should be a harbinger of more things to come). So before you spew narrow minded comments and be so sure they are true, try to think that what they are offering may NOT be of any importance to you, but it might/will bring more customers to Microsoft who may have been on the fence about 360 prior.

Wait 100 more (alleged) GBs, and HDMI ports for 80 dollars more than original price? Pretty good if you asks me. It completely removes two edges that the 600 dollar PS3 offers for 20 bucks less than the 500 dollar PS3....

If you're going to compare the 360 purchase price to the PS3, THEN you have to add one. Otherwise, you only have to add the Xbox Live Gold cumulative cost to the 360 Premium (or elite, whichever) purchase price. Either way, it ends up surpassing it. If you're going to compare the 360 feature set to the PS3, therefore, you'll always be ending up with less for more. However, I cannot blame you for considering a core 360 or premium 360 with Xbox Live Gold, as long as you don't have an HDTV or are completely disinterested in HD movies, because this is basically a competitive value. Sort of. There are pos/neg to each, and considering each could bring you one way or the other. Bottom line is 360 is not a bad purchase, but PS3 is a superb buy by any standard of judgment that includes HD compatibility and online gaming.

why do you have to add a HD Dvd drive to compare PS3 to 360. They both play games, 360 doesn't need the HD-DVD drive to do it. Tough Luck.

Edges? $500 PS3 includes HDMI and can be upgrades to a 120GB+ hard drive for less than $100. Additionally, you get a Blu Ray drive for both games and movies. Is Blu Ray's content advantage necessary for gaming? Take a look at Brian Hasting's essay.

If all you want to do is play games, buy a 360. But don't tell me you're getting a better rate when Microsoft can show me by their pricing rates that you are absolutely not. It's like this...if all you've got to do is pee, buy a urinal. But don't tell me my full-scale toilet is not worth it for pooping.

Additionally, you just ignored Xbox Live. You play online, right? The price disparity immediately vanishes, except you don't have an HD format.

"Granted, some really great Xbox 360 games have squeezed onto a DVD9. Gears of War is a beautiful game and shows off the highest resolution textures of anything yet released, partly because of the Unreal Engine’s ability to stream textures. This means that you can have much higher resolution textures than you could normally fit in your 512 MB of RAM. It also means that you’re going to chew up more disc space for each level. With streamed textures, streamed geometry and streamed audio, even with compression, you can quickly approach 1 GB of data per level. That inherently limits you to a maximum of about 7 levels, and that’s without multiplayer levels or mpeg cutscenes."

"Sometimes people ask us, “If Resistance takes 14 gigabytes, why doesn’t it look better than Gears?” Well, for one, Resistance didn’t support texture streaming, so we had to make choices about where we spent our high-res textures. Resistance also had 30 single-player chapters, six multiplayer maps, uncompressed audio streaming, and high-definition mpegs. That all added up to a lot of space on the disc. Starting with Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction we are supporting texture streaming, which will make the worlds look even better, and will also consume even more space on disc." For those of you who haven't seen R&C: ToD, it instantly validates this statement.

Additionally, Gears supports fewer units on screen, with smaller environments, less particle effects, and less physics calculations taking place.

Essay? It's about as much of an essay as some of the posts here :| He hasn't said anything that I haven't heard before. Now, if Insomniac had any experience developing on non-Sony platforms, I'd trust him a lot more. You wanna give me a link to a 120GB HDD that would work internally with the PS3 (that wouldn't portude out of it) for less than a hundred bucks? I'd definitely be interested. Say I don't want Hi-Def movies. I can pay 600 dollars for a core PS3 and (allegedly) a new, fitting, and reliable 120GB hard drive. Or I could pay 480 for what is essentially the same thing, at least according the the landslides of developers making the same game for both systems instead of one guy who hasn't made a game that wasn't for a Sony console.

Oh, did they force you to buy it? That is the only reason you would have to be upset.

Additionally, Gears supports fewer units on screen, with smaller environments, less particle effects, and less physics calculations taking place.Redfingers
I sense much anger in this one. "Bu bu bu te GEars!! It doesnt....." Recheck the title of this thread bud.

[QUOTE="cutmaclass1"]Wait 100 more (alleged) GBs, and HDMI ports for 80 dollars more than original price? Pretty good if you asks me. It completely removes two edges that the 600 dollar PS3 offers for 20 bucks less than the 500 dollar PS3....Redfingers
Edges? $500 PS3 includes HDMI and can be upgrades to a 120GB+ hard drive for less than $100. Additionally, you get a Blu Ray drive for both games and movies. Is Blu Ray's content advantage necessary for gaming? Take a look at Brian Hasting's essay.

Brian Hastings essay was about as useful as Major Nelson's 360/PS3 comparo that was posted over at IGN a while back. Generalized, biased claims with some basis in truth, and a huge sampling of stumping for papa Sony. Be realistic, his argument are the same flimsy, laughable arguments that Cows have been throwing around for months:

BluRay will make PS3 teh winnar!

You must have Blu-Ray for next gen games! You must!

We have more powar! More powar means better games!

GS and the media is BIASED! They all hate Sony!

You're all just haters!

:|:| Sound familiar?

Wow it hasnt even been anounced, as far as we know it comes with the wifi adapter with it.

That would jack up the price about $100.

UMMMM YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT, really I don't come to system wars that much anymore, but it's probably the worst I have seen it in a while I mean noobs like this everywhere, and posting these stupid rants.

Well it has a couple of nice feature the Core doesn't have. I have alot of friends who are stuck with the lame Core system. They are upset.

Agreed. I'd rather pay more upfront. Than pay continually each year. With the prospect of having my hardware become "old news" after just 1.5 years

Nintendo has always had the best prices on their systems and that is a big factor when a casual gamer is buying a system. On the other hand, some fat 40-year-olds who live in their parent's basement don t care at all about the price and there fore they will spend w/e amount MS shoves in their face. Too bad MS milks their system, if they didn t it d be #1 in my books by far.

wtf are you talking about? you dont need to buy any of those things. the only thing you need which doesnt come out of hte 400 box is a tv, games, and xbl.
hd movie add ons are useless at the moment, wait a year or two and theyll matter
and you dont have to buy the elite xboxit doesnt even add any significant featuresok so its black, does that mean you have to go run out and buy oneit give you hdmi, negligable difference in picture qualityit has a better chip, all products' reliability get improved over time, and even if your old xbox breaks theyll replace for free it so it doesnt matterand finally you get a bigger harddrive, if you want one go buy one seperatly
if you bought a 250gb harddrive from western digital or something and then a year later they realeased a 500gb hardrvie for a higher price, would it be milking?
no it wouldnt youre just an ____

what are you talking about?? if you say elite is milking then so is the ds lite or the ps2 slimline but the truth is niether of them are if they release a slightly improved product after more than a year its progress not milkage and why is this thread full of generalizing the tc thinks that race makes a difference on whether or not youd buy an improved 360 if you dont have one then buy the elite if you already have one be content youve got a great system and now youre assuming that 40 year olds living with their parents are the only customers for xbox? i can be like you as well: wii is for little girls and grandmothers xbox is for cool kids ps3 is for ultra nerds

Poor analogy. Hard drive companies routinely release newer, larger hard drives. Console companies do NOT usually release significant additions/editions of their console. Especially after just 1.5 years on the market. I own an Xbox360. I still plan to get an Elite. But even I would admit this is milkage.

Don't bother getting the elite unless you plan on doing IPTV. It's pointless otherwise. MS wants to get into the IPTV game. Why would they bother creating a whole new "set top box" when they can just integrate the tech into the 360? I still don't see what all the fuss is about over this thing. It doesn't affect gaming at all.

It's because people come here just to create a fuss, it is what they do. Or should I say, they don't come here to get more information about systems and games....they come here with their mind made up and look for any bit of information they can twist and turn to support their view (and try to make themself sound clever)...facts be damned.

wow how hard is it to just buy a system and play games with out any of this other bs? If you don't want a 100gb upgrade then don't get it. none of the extra stuff is needed to enjoy games. And the games are all that matter.

But what if I want the other stuff? Why wasn't this option offered to me at launch? Why wait until now to introduce? Why keep it a secret and shaft the holiday buyers? (Hi! Congrats on your new system. By the by, it's old news just 4 months after you bought it.) I am a Microsoft fan but even I would have to admit this move isn't the best for its fanbase. (It's a great business move by Microsoft. Offer an enhanced product and have the opportunity to profit bigtime for it!)
