Blizzard and Microsoft in Xbox 720 Talks

Yes indeedly, MS wants Blizzard on-board and they ( I think ) want to be on-board for good reason.

The Story.

Blizzard executive Rob Pardo has revealed that the World of Warcraft developer is in active talks with Microsoft regarding the successor to the Xbox 360, reports reports GamesIndustry

Pardo said this during the Luminaries Lunch at the Game Developers Conference. Other industry figures lunching--including Sims creator Will Wright, Deus Ex creator Warren Spector and Acclaim's David Perry--said they'd yet to be approached about the unannounced console, lovingly dubbed the Xbox 720 by many.

This is perhaps surprising considering Blizzard's last game to see a console release was the Nintendo 64 port of StarCraft way back in 2000 but that's the point--Blizzard's titles absolutely dominate the PC platform yet never reach consoles. Pardo explains:

"There are are so many games like we make at Blizzard that we don't take to consoles because they don't support the input device and you end up with crappy ports. That's why RTS games never do well on consoles."

"If I was them, I'd be sitting around trying to figure out what's a cool input device that supports all types of new kinds of games."

With surefire hits Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 under development at Blizzard, not to mention an unannounced next-gen MMO, Microsoft must be eager not to miss out this time.

Will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

WoW Xbox 720 launch title am confirmed.

If anything gets talked out by these two companies we'll be sure all future games from blizzard won't go on the mac. Nor even the PS3, but then I don't really care about that field.

I'm willing to bet that the Xbox 360 will not last until 2012 like most users here seem to hope for. A late 2010 or early/mid 2011 release seems like a greater possibility.QuirkyUsername

I would be fine with that, as long as I can play all my xbox 360 games on it.

I'll laugh if 720 launches with WoW, it will be as spectacular as FFXI :P

This could be great news, but this also could accelerate the launch of next gen.

There is no way M$ is going to just let a Blizzard game get old and lose momentum.

Considering im on this gen since 05, a new console in 2010/11 would be perfect! I just hope they include BC on it.

WOW cant be done on the 360 with out a complete overall of the interface and blizzard wouldnt do that cuz they know the game would suck

Yeah, but the first year of next gen always blows. It doesn't get good for a whole year, so really, 2006 is when it started to feel good.

Stop calling it Xbox 720 already!! It makes no sense!!! If you knew why the Xbox 360 is called the 360 then you would know it's stupid to think the next one would be 720. And yes this does bother me so don't ask!!! *angry face*TheBigBadGRIM

You are assuming you know the real reason why it's called the 360. Forget all the M$ PR bull, and think about it.

It's simple marketing, the average joe see's that the Xbox was called the XBOX 2 vs. the PS3, he's going to want a "3" more than a "2". M$ knew this, and voila! Xbox 3sixty was born!

Now, the average Joe can compare "3" from PS3, to the "360" from Xbox 360, go, "Golly, I want that Three Hundred and Sixty!!!"

The Next Xbox will be called "X5". I love marketing. This is a theory, but look at it.

Well, the PS3 supports Keyboard and Mouse, heck, even Optical and Bluetooth Keyboards and Mice, but they are just add ons, and Devs HATE add ons. They can't assume the audience has that stuff.

M$ has said NO to K/M for their 360 platform.

They might aswell bring it to the ps3 actually, since it does support mouse and keyboard already. Heck Sony really needs to get some devs to do a cool rts while allowing mouse and keyboard support. Sometimes I just don't understand Sony's thinking, all the while MS is trying to do these things with out the input support lol.

But he specifically talks about how RTS games don't work on consoles because of the controls, and that console people need to explore better input options. Sounds to me that MS wants real RTS games on their console and Blizzard wants better control options to make that possible.
