Blizzard coming to consoles...
It looks like it could very well come true folks!!!
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Interesting though, I can not see using a gamepad for a Diablo game would work.. They need to use a mouse and keyboard..
Cross platform may be very interesting idea too.
"We haven't really decided to take the [console] plunge," he continued "We've really come to the conclusion that it's probably the best fit because the control scheme is actually not that incompatible. So if we were to make that decision, Diablo would be the natural choice."
Besides, we already know that Blizzard have been trying to make the console plunge, only with original games like Starcraft Ghost. I wouldn't hold my breath on a Diablo 3 port.
NOOO!!! That'll make the PC versions worse. Just concentrate on PC, Blizzard!Zhengi
How so? If a developer sacrifices one version for another, then they are not making games for the right reasons.

Because they'll have to simplify the controls and graphics to make it work on the inferior consoles and the PC version will suffer ;)

Make the PC version, then port. PC does not suffer, console gamers get to play the game (albeit not the "preferred" one).

What do controls have to do with anything ?Why would the PC version be affected by what they do on consoles ?

Cause they'll simplify it for the noobs and casuals on the consoles ;)
"If we did it, we would want to do a really high quality version--we wouldn't just want to do a port," Wilson said. "We would never make that decision if we thought we had to compromise the overall quality...we could probably do it at any time, we could release the game and then decide we wanted to do a 360 version or a PS3 version."
They sound like they are putting some serious thought into it though...

If its multiplat it usually always will be.. But I think it iwll only come out for the PS3 sense it can use mouse and keyboard. Diablo games just don't work with game pads plain and simple.. And graphics won't be dumbed down, Diablo 3 looks great, but its nothing like crysis and will run fine on the console.

And why would that affect the PC, again ? You do realize that they can just make Diablo III the way they originally intended, and then afterwards, change the controls for the console versions only ? :| We're talking about a port, not a simultaneous development.

Not to mention Diablo 3 is alreadey less "hardcore" than D2 .... the new mechanics, the simpler attitude towards death penalties ect ect...
I wouldn tbe suprised if they will allow you to respec your skills anytime, theyre bloody doing that in WoW now

Thats kind of a good thing.. I have to admit it got very lame when you screw up a build or accidently mis-spend the point that you were forced to remake the character (if you were power gaming of course).

Indeed, but all im saying is, if you want hardcore difficutly and depth that some PC franchises are known for, the last place you want to look is Diablo , consoles could do it, I doubt it would be as good.... but its easily done.

Indeed, it sounds more to me like they are dropping hints that they ARE doing it. They are with Actvision now, afterall. Diablo III on either PS3 or 360 would be killer.

no way.....i'd rather enjoy their games and not have to worry about spending tons on my computer....plus i have much more friends that i could play co-op with on consoles....XBL + Diablo 3= EPIC #### WIN!!!!

Sounds like PC version first console version later, but they did say that they would have to get around some console limitations to do the trick. Wonder what those are, they even said that they don't want to compromise the overall quality of the games, if the console version has to get too much toning down..it won't be done.

"If you can click a mouse, you can play Diablo." - Some Blizzard rep. The only thing hard about Diablo are the insane low drops rates and people Pking you at random times.[QUOTE="xsubtownerx"][QUOTE="sSubZerOo"]Interesting though, I can not see using a gamepad for a Diablo game would work.. ZOMG! Yes because making Diablo work with a controler would be SOOOOOO hard and all. I mean just look at how this game's combat has never been seen on consoles before!

I still own Diablo II. You FAIL! I also love how hermits think Diablo is impossible on consoles.

I also love how hermits think Diablo is impossible on consoles. :lol:xsubtownerxDiablo 1 was possible on consoles because the limited nature of the skills and the lack of twitch combat. The sheer number of interactive environments in Diablo 3 combined with the the seamless combination of skills in such a way that requires precision is something that cannot be done as is on a controller.
Diablo went to consoles a long time ago. Besides, this is nothing more than speculation.Vandalvideo
Blizzard will be the next company to move on to consoles.

Highly doubtful. They've been saying that they don't like the fees associaetd with console development for quite some time.[QUOTE="xsubtownerx"]I still own Diablo II. You FAIL! Thats not what they said...

Thats not what they said..."the game's control scheme would work rather well on consoles."jasonheymanThey can say whatever they want. From a purely logistical standpoint it just won't work. I've personally tried using a gamepad with Diablo 2 and it didn't work out. I lacked the responsiveness of the controls of the KBM to perform intricate skill chains needed to survive as some of the classes in the game. The lack of precision on console gamepads is what is keeping Diablo 2/3 style indepth gameplay from being on consoles. I wouldn't be surprised if Diablo 3 went to consoles, but at the same time not in its current form. With the addition of multi-tiered environments calling for even more responsiveness from the input device, I wouldn't be surprised if they had to rework the controls to get it on consoles.
i dont think blizzard would be any sucessfull in consoles. console gamers fight about graphics kings, play whatever is trendy for a bit and then move on etc etc. blizzard games are nothing like that.

so all your hopes are based on ports that happened a decade ago? blizzard has changed a lot since that.
Diablo was on the Playstation. Starcraft was on the N64. Now Diablo 3 will go to consoles in 2009. nVidiaGaMerAnd yet their major console plans for the last generation ended abruptly. Over the last generation they have been saying they don't like the fees associated with publishing games on the consoles. Its a matter of business. They like the open nature of the PC platform. There is nothing to suggest that they are planning a shift from the PC over the consoles anytime soon, and this article is nothing more than mere speculation of what COULD be.

Crazy hermit talk again. I think you seriously underestimate Blizzard's capabilities at control scheme design. You guys can keep trying to convince me otherwise but it won't work. Seeing as how I'll be playing this game regardless of what happens to it in terms of platforms. Gotta love Blizzard when it comes to system requirements..
