thats a really tough one since they both happen to be my absolute favorite devs of all time, but i think i might have to go with blizzard based on their games along. but i gotta say, valve has a place in my gaming heart right next to blizzard with steam and the gaves they've made. i would say a tie, but if i had to choose one over the other it would have to be blizzard.
valve, they have steam, which keeps PC gaming alive, Blizzard went into the MMO business and turned their back on us for 6 years, then they released Starcraft 2. Valve never turned their back on us, ever.
Valve makes Portal, so they win by default for me. I don't really enjoy any of their other games though. I found HL2 boring, and TF2 isn't very fun to me.

What if Diablo 3 flops for not having third-person camera and for not having teh Bioware conversation system or for not having story at all? It, won't on sites which have competent review staff, like Gamespot. Maybe on gametrailers :P
Blizzard Biggest action rpg series ever - Diablo biggest MMO ever -WoW Biggest RTS game ever -Starcraft ( Warcraft is not far behind either) Seriously Valve has made some popular games but nothing like what Blizzard has done. Half Life has had nowhere near the impact as games like Starcraft, Diablo, or WoW have done. Let me know when Valve is able to do something like a annual convention the size of Blizzcon.
Blizzard. But not based on games--they seem to retain that "it is about the game" mentality which I like. Valve has gotten a little cocky and media hungry over the years.
Btw, I have not yet bought Starcraft 2. I've played it, but not enough to judge--is it worth getting? Warcraft 2 is my fav rts.

In terms of actual quality, it's a tie.
tough one. blizzard has my favorite mmo, favorite rts, and favorite hack n slash. valve's got my favorite single player fps, multiple games in my top favorite mp fps list (tf2, cs, l4d), a great digital distribution system, great marketing tactics (sales :3), and awesome support for their games. neither has made a game that i didn't love, so eh. i'll just go with valve because of my genre preferences. they are pretty much the best two developers right now, imo.
valve actually releases games.... i prefer valve... my favourite developer probably.. just love steam and love their games (even the ones which just use their technology) blizzard are good as well... but i only really like starcraft and warcraft 3

be glad they canned SC ghost, it wasnt very good, thats why they canned it, it was also a console exclusive fps, they realized trying to cash in on Halo was stupid
