The game is now released, what's your take on it compared to other metroidvanias on the market? Stuff like Hollow Knight which is half the price? Or Dead Cells? Etc...

I haven't played the game but from everything I have seen the game looks slow, clunky, and boring. Plus the art style is pitiful! Even after the redesign they did after fan feedback.
Why was this not made with 2D style graphics in the realm of Super Nintendo/Genesis?
Don't know where you're getting that from because from all of the impressions that I've been reading, everyone has been really liking it. Jim Sterling even said he'd give it a 10/10 if he still did scores.
I have yet to play my copy, but I'm also excited for it after loving both previous demos.
Oh, what's this? A game that actually lived up to what was promised, and is actually really good? Quick! Make a thread about how overrated it is!
So freaking predictable.
Overrated? How?
Overrated simply means "things people like and I don't".
In other words: I don't like it so it sucks.
Or rather: too many people like a certain thing and there is no reason why.
For example: superhero movies are overrated

Just because people like it, there's no reason to? Nah, it's still "things people like and I don't" and "I don't like it so it sucks".
There's no such thing as overrated.

It's really not that good. It is indeed as you describe, extremely slow with very unsatisfying combat and a lacklustre art direction. The only thing standing out is the music, which is fantastic.
Objectively analysing the game, not on the creators reputation but rather, comparing it to currently Metroidvania games on the market, at a significantly cheaper price, it is, indeed, quantifiably overrated.
Compare this to Hollow Knight or even something like Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight (made by one person), really, underwhelming stuff for a 6 million+ game.

I don't get why this is so hard to understand.
You are explaining self-absorption to me. I'm trying to explain overrated to you.
I never even said I don't like superhero movies. I simply state: Superhero movies are overrated.
Haven’t played it myself yet but I plan on getting it relatively soon. It looks pretty good from what I’ve seen of it and watched some impressions on it by Jim Sterling and DreamCastGuy and they both spoke highly of it. DreamCastGuy gave it an 8.5.
So many people on this website just shit all over everything anymore. Like it's hard to tell if ppl are serious or trolling.
I will play it momentarily ^__^ I think it looks like they have improved a lot. So I am pretty excited to play it.
Oh I guess I won't play it today because I probably picked the Switch version XD
I will never understand why people that do not even play a game that is VERY highly reviewed (just look at steam reviews) can claim that it is overrated.
Imagine playing something before you make that type of a claim. I know it is unimaginable.
94% positive USER (not critic) reviews with over 1400 of them is the new overrated. SW does not even try anymore.
Just because people like it, there's no reason to? Nah, it's still "things people like and I don't" and "I don't like it so it sucks".

I simply state: Overrated stuff doesn't exist.
I really enjoyed the Castlevania games trilogy on the DS. Gameplay looks the exact same.
I suppose people not interested in this aren't fans of Castlevania.

Are you just trying to be annoying at this point? Do you really have no arguments left that you have to resort to 12 year old behaviour of repeating what the other person said?
I'm not sure why people are saying it looks slow - the pacing looks almost identical to the oldschool castlevania games. I've been replaying Bloodlines lately and this is pretty much on point.
Really would prefer sprites though...
I might give it a try then during a sale.......
But yes....it needed to be sprites, feel the 3D art style choice was a financial choice.

It was a financial decision, which they were very upfront with at the start, so you can't really fault them. The gameplay though is exactly the same speed as SOTN and the DS Castlevanias. People calling it slow are just falling for an illusion due to the 2.5D graphics. In game, there are also items that increase Miriam's speed as well.
Might be worth mentioning in OP they want $40 for this. Damn, really was quite over-priced, wasn't planning on getting it but might try if ends up on Game Pass.
@Star67: Not when it feels like any other Castlevania when you're actually playing, and like I wrote, there is equipment that can improve your abilities, such as the back dash, etc. This is literally another SOTN or OoE in every way but name.

I'm a huge fan of Castlevania. Doesn't mean I want to play an average ripoff of it.
From what I see, it's only missing "Castlevania" in the title.
I understand if you don't feel the visuals tho.
@Star67: That's fair, and I'm not even really trying to sell Bloodstained, but rather just want to convey that it's a good game. As a backer, I'm happy not only to get this as the base game, but Curse of the Moon from last year as well.
This game is ridiculously good. It’s leaps and bounds better then any of the “metroidvania” clones that have been pumped out by the indie crowd the last few years.
As a matter of fact, I would rank it #3 if all time behind SotN and SuperMetroid. But in a gameplay basis it’s actually better then both. It literally has everything. Being the first always makes you the best IMO, but this game has everything going for it.
If your a fan of this type gameplay at all, you need to play it.
Ugh.
I keep watching videos of this and it just looks so.......bleh. Generic, stagnant, mechanical and stale are words that pop to mind. SoTN had a fluidity about it, an organic sense and feeling of consequence and weight, for lack of better words. This was aided by its phenomenal sprite work and animation. Everything here just looks so damn.....synthetic and gives off a feeling of levity. Soulless and boring. Just looking at it makes me not only not interested, but adverse to giving it a chance at all. The animation also looks very amateurish.
Not for me.
