I agree Sony is using the PS3 to advertise there new BLUE-RAYÂ PLAYER, it is the main reason the console is expensive.
They should have sticked to dvd's.
If sony ditched BD, and made it optional. The price would be comparable to 360. Sony would sell more. I hope BD isnt the next UMD. . .carl2tanif sony didnt put blueray in it would be cheaper than the 360
nobody really wanted Blu-ray, everyones just pretending they did...DVD is where it's at, and where it will be for a while. DS_fan_aticMany people, myself included, didn't invest in an HDTV to watch trashy DVD's. We can get 1080i/720p network broadcasts over the air, so it's only right we get at least the same for our movies.

Agreed I will be buying an HDTV soon and I don't want to watch DVDs on it.
Despite the problems Blu-ray caused for the PS3 early on, the Blu-ray capabilities is what is helping them out. Face the facts, Blu-ray has major supporters, more movies, and with its current lead it will win. I was an early HD-DVD adopter but most of the better movies are coming on Blu-ray now, and thats a strong reason why I bought a PS3 right now instead of later.
Agreed. If the PS3 didn't have a Bluray player I would probably get rid of it. Especially with DMC going to the 360 now.Despite the problems Blu-ray caused for the PS3 early on, the Blu-ray capabilities is what is helping them out. [QUOTE="DS_fan_atic"]*sigh* I have a hig def TV downstairs and we have an upscaling DVD player, looks fine to me...ramey70Do you also think that regular definition programming looks the same as high definition programming?
there is a notable difference yes, but upscaling DVD players go up to 1080i, pretty good no?
still the amount we're paying for "high def" boggles the mind...it's not even a huge leap if you ask me

But therein lies the difference. Upscaling is fake, and it is noticeable. No matter how good of a scaler you have, your source content is still 480i on a DVD. That's less than digital cable. When you watch a show on Discovery Home Theater HD in 1080i it is jawdropping because what you see is what was filmed, it is a pure transfer. I want that same level of detail in my movies and I think I deserve it.[QUOTE="DS_fan_atic"]Do you also think that regular definition programming looks the same as high definition programming?[QUOTE="ramey70"][QUOTE="DS_fan_atic"]*sigh* I have a hig def TV downstairs and we have an upscaling DVD player, looks fine to me...ramey70

Seriously, once you have a HD-DVD player or a Blu-ray player the visual quality it great. Also if you have Blu-ray player and a reciever with HDMI inputs you can experience great sound (uncompressed audio) which is even more noticeable than the picture quality. Check out Casiono Royale or Crank on Blu-ray and compare it to an upcoversion...case closed.
[QUOTE="DS_fan_atic"]I also enjoy movie theatres! :Dramey70I hate them. I hate the people. I hate the lines. I hate parking. I hate it all. I'd rather bring the theater to my living room. So far, with several objections from the wife, I've done that. :)
LOL, while I don't hate it, I am on the same level man. I spent way too much money on my Home Theater set-up. But in the end it is all worth it.
