It seems that the HD DVD people have the right idea just taking it slow and see what happens before they pump a bunch of money and marketing and trying to force consumer to think they need this stuff.

Ya, Blu Ray is beating HD DVD, PS3 games run off them, allow developers more space to work with etc

Blu Ray is far away from 'Failed'

Sony took a gamble, one of their goals has always been to introduce the next big entertainment medium.  This time it just cost them first/second place in the gaming industry, that's all.

Oh sweet you just reminded me that I just bought the first two pirate movies on Blu-ray. Can't wait to get home and watch these puppies. HD movies are the best.

Unless im superiorly wrong(most likely), I dont really see any of these HiDef formats becoming the norm, or anywhere near that until the userbase has substantually grown.

How about you enroll in some summer school? It seems you are in need of remedial English there, some critical thinking would help too.

how can Blu-ray be failing when it is outselling HD-DVD by a wide margin?

By a lot.

Ummm stop trying to pull facts from your *** dude. It just doesnt work. Blu ray is out selling HD DVD's, its standard for every ps3, every ps3 game is distributed by blu ray disks, its far from over.

It's a good thing for games, but with the ability to up-scale DVD's on HDTV's it's going to take a while for Blu-Ray to become truly mainstream.

I think he is saying that it has failed not because it isn't beating HD DVD, which it is a bit, but because HD movies in general aren't capturing many consumers. THAT is true and is a valid point.

Just because you are beating a competitor doesn't mean you are achieving your goals.  There are two wars going on.  Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD and HD vs. DVD/digital-downloads/rentals.  The second war is being lost by all HD formats.

Blu-ray is beating hd-dvd, but he's bashing blu-ray, so he's a lemming. It could have easily been said that "HD movies are failing"..

Blu-Ray primary focus was for movies. Right now both HD-DVD & Blu-Ray are failing miserably at retail stores. Sure Blu-Ray is beating HD-DVD, but DVD is killing them both by a very, very large margin. Things may change in 2-3yrs, but I won't buy either format until studios decide to start phasing out DVD's. What I'm going to do is buy an upscaling DVD player that does 1080p. Problem solved.

^This is what lets me know he is referring to HD movies in general losing the war. I mean if Blu-ray is going to be passed up, then so the heck would be HD DVD.

"It seems that the HD DVD people have the right idea just taking it slow and see what happens before they pump a bunch of money and marketing and trying to force consumer to think they need this stuff."

^This I think he meant to say HD DVDs in general, not specifically HD-DVD the format.  Consumers for this market right now are up on technology and know that sales aren't very good and that it may not be worth their money at the moment.  That DVD already gives them enough for what they need.  I think thats the point he is making.

I wish I had a 100 terabyte movie player where I could load all my DVD's on to it and just hook it to my HDTV. Use a menu system to pick whatever movie I wanted and then play it. That would be tight and I could sell all my DVD's.

Upscaled DVD's are okay...but once you've seen the real thing...its hardly a real solution for anyone looking for an HD film format.

Thats the beauty of the two new formats. They upscale DVD's and all you have to do is buy your new movies on bluray. They all play in the same machine. Its not like VHS where collections had to be replaced.

sorry but upscaling dvds do not look that great. also both blu ray and hd dvd are for long term not short term. so they know they will be out sold by dvd now. but in 2-4yrs will be a different story, due ot more HDTV being in ppls home.
