https://kotaku.com/high-level-destiny-2-activities-are-now-locked-behind-d-1821058051

"Curse of Osiris, which came out Tuesday, raises the caps on Destiny 2character and Power levels. It also raises the requirements for endgame activities across the board, like the raid and Nightfall strike. Whereas in vanilla Destiny 2 the tougher, Prestige versions of both the raid and Nightfall asked you to have a minimum Power level of 300, they now want you to be 330.

The problem here is that if you don’t have Curse of Osiris, you’re capped at 305 Power, and you can’t actually enter those activities until you buy the expansion "

You can get a full refund for the main game($60) from MS...while Sony "for the gamers" is not offering any refunds.

What a flop. Not sure how anyone can find a shooter MMO fun anyway. Shooters are meant to be skill-based, competitive games, not this carebear coop shit.

I wonder if Bungie regret singing that 10yr contract with Craptivision, but Bungie will crumble once that's all done, Craptivision will milk these guys dry.

They should be expected after what they pulled with d1

Hahaha! Nice, a new way for Activision EA to screw people over. I didn't think of this one, I would think it would go too far. But they pull it off. What can you do about it? Right? Now you have less of a game XD Amazing.

This is getting out of hand, guys.

Disgusting but expected. Destiny 1 did similar stuff with the Weekly strike. It is why I would never buy Destiny 2. I vote with my wallet.

I got this game just to check the fuss. It's terrible. The cooldowns are so long and there is no content. It's like a f2p game but you gotta pay $80 and still get stuck with loot boxes.

The expansion also is a huge ripoff. It's a tiny content patch worth five bucks at most.

Maybe one day someone will make a first-person shooter, MMO RPG worth a damn. Until then, Destiny should be taken out back and shot.

What I find inexcusable is that for how much of a cash-cow this franchise is, why couldn't they just introduce new high-end content? This is precisely the issue I had with Destiny 1 in a way. They still haven't learned to treat people like anything less than a floating moneybag with their name on it.

I wonder if I can get a refund from Amazon.

Paying $60 for the PC version alone was good enough and that's all I'm doing. I'm done with Destiny 2 anyways, and just waiting to see how Bioware does well with Anthem cause it looks more fun.

I only bought it because some friends wanted to play it. I only paid 46, but I still feel like I was ripped off. We all stopped playing it because the end game was shite, but this seals the deal: I'm never spending another penny on Destiny 2, again.

Was it different in Destiny? Between vanilla and Rise of Iron, were you still able to do prestige challenges (strikes/raid) if you didn’t have the extra content?

I’ve never thought to ask because everybody who played OG Destiny either left during vanilla or upgraded to TTK, afaik.

Got the game as part of a discounted PS4 Pro bundle. Came with season pass, and it's just sitting on my desk, still in the shrinkwrap. Things like this kinda makes me not wanna play it, you know?

What kind of uninspired teenager chose "Curse of Osiris"

They designed their expansions around the biggest flaw of MMOs where each one makes the previous content redundant

Such an old way of thinking, console is still a decade behind in some ways

I think that the problem here is that this expansion doesn't have its own raid so it borrows it from the vanilla game and locks away the hard mode that was already available. The strikes didn't have a hard mode previously, so it's fine and acceptable that the new expansion locks it away...but the raid? I don't think so.

It's not even the same thing.

This destiny thing actually LOCKS you from doing the content unless you pay, old MMOs would still let you use the content while leveling up, despite new content.

this is leagues worse, I've played dozens of MMOs since 01.

Just a clarification as some seem confused, the specific issue is the prestige mode of the high end activities is sold as part of the base game "the prestige" trophy/achievement exists as part of the original game and therefore the modes to complete this achievement must be included in the base game, The latest patch takes the prestige mode for the base game raid and puts it behind the paywall, same with nightfalls thus removing content from the base game. D1 didn't do this they left the base game at it's base power level, then later in HOW DLC owners could boost base game items up to the current DLC power level, TTK then acted as a kind of soft reset and ROI acted like a redux pack, but if you still have Vanilla D1 you could log on right now and load up any of the base game modes that were sold with the game and play them.

Refunds have been given as the locking of that content deviates from the product as described at point of sale, consumer legislation entitles you to either a repair, replacement or refund in such a circumstance, a replacement will clearly not fix the issue so repair or refund, when it started refunds were given as that looked to be the cheaper option, word got around quick and refund requests mounted so the digital platforms have now paused refunds and a fix has been acknowledged to be forthcoming from Bungie.

Fix or refund is basically a win win from the consumer so there's that.

Those refunds were given so quickly in the beginning because not only was this behavior unethical it actually contravened consumer rights legislation, eg. the consumer rights act 2015 (UK), So if nothing else you now know exactly what type of company you are dealing with.

What's the state of play if you ordered this through a retail shop? I usually keep my receipts in the game box.

I've stopped playing Destiny over the last month or so because the way it works is actually ridiculous. You can enjoy 50% of the game on your own, or with TWO friends (no more). But, if you want to do the 'end-game' stuff you need between 2-5 extra friends (but be careful, you wouldn't want to invite too many in case one can't play). Then you need to set aside between 3-10 hours of your day in one go, with minimal breaks just on the off-chance you may be able to do the raids. Oh, and in order to do it you must grind the living shit out of the game with a minimal chance of getting gear that may increase your power by one point.

@goodzorr looks like they are out in front of this now, they have publicly acknowledged the problem and promised a fix, so if you try to argue its defective they will deflect and say a fix is in the works and under the consumer rights act 2015 they are entitled to attempt a repair before compensating people.

PC players had no idea this was a shitty practice that Bungie regularly committed. I didn't, at least. I only paid 46, but the game is kind of garbage, so I felt ripped off even before this whole DLC thing dropped; this only made it worse. I just uninstalled the game yesterday after reading about it.

Guys please take a minute and ask reviewers to adjust their scores/review of Destiny 2. The game is now significantly worse than its original state. It has slower XP gain, content locked and loot in lootboxes. That's right. The 'cosmetic' microtransactions now include the best gear. So warm up your wrists and start hitting keys.

Also if you bought the game and do not intend to buy the expansion, please ask for a refund so that we can send a message.

@lifelessablaze: What I don’t remember anymore is how the early Raids were managed before TTK and light levels. Between VoG and Crota, once max level was raised, it devalues and undermined the Prestige option for all previous raids until Bungie went back and updated them at the end of Rise of Iron.

I am simply trying to clarify the dilemma. Those who buy the expansions obviously wouldn’t want existing content to be devalued and have a repeat of the Destiny 1 problem, but trying to keep Raid content levels dynamic clearly makes it more difficult on base-game owners. Even if you only had the base game, the server-side adjustments to the normal mode light level essentially requires every character be max light to begin with (300 light activity with a 305 ceiling).

I kinda get where Bungie is coming from but cant say if that’s the right choice.

Hmm I guess they should legally be allowed to do something like that as long as they offer refunds for the base game as it's no longer the game they bought in a pretty negative way.

If I were designing Destiny 2 and it had to be a paid expansion I would probably make sure that the base game players would get part of the new gear as potential drops too. So that their light level would get high enough to still do their base content and it could actually be seen as some free cool stuff. And then the other problem is that the expansion is light on content to start with, and that would have made it even worse. They made too little content for it to be worth the money anyhow. Putting more work into it is the only solution for that, or make it $15. They would still make money.

Ah I checked. So it's not pay to win but they did put the most wanted stuff from the expansion locked behind bright engrams. Thanks for correcting me.

Well that sucks. So you can either pay up like a rich bastard or grind it out using the treadmill that they deliberately slowed down for their players. In a now more than full price game.
