Bullshots are Bull@#$%

I don't know about you but I hate bullshots. I understand wanting to sell your product but mis-representation is just wrong. Epic and Cliffy Basta*$% really do come to mid. I am tired of reading about Bshots, hearing about Bshots ect. I did some searching tonight and thought I'd post this link about them and get your thoughts. It's old but I think worthwhile. (not concerned about the source...........just the content of the article)

i didn't know looking at bullshots prior to playing a game has any impact on the enjoyment

Sorry for the example of Epic. Came to mind first. I know many use them, just the first to come to mind. I didn't want to list all or I would have gotten the "BLOG IT" reply.

Okay, not singling out Epic or Xbox or PS3. Just really referring to the shots. Used an example, that's all. FTR I love gears. Just give me your opinion on the shots, no matter the game or developer. How's that?

If one particular developer or system was solely putting out bullshots then I would also be very annoyed, but as it is, everyone puts out pics that turn out to be not indicative of the final product. So I feel it all is fair.

The biggest disparity between bullshots and gameplay in recent memory has to be Haze.

Oddly enough, the "bullshot" of KZ2 in that article looks closer to what I got on my TV than the e3 footage they posted, I wonder why they used an e3 trailer instead of retail release for the article.

I personally believe that the word Bullshot is used too freely on this forum, just because a screen shot may have more AA than the actual game itself I do not believe it warrants the need for posters to continually post "bullshot" complaints, especially when most Aliasing today is reduced due to the inclusion of motion blur, while actually playing the game. If I were to post early pictures of Haze or replay screenshots of Forza/GT5 as why I believe those games look good then I believe such a situation deserves the use of the word bullshot, but most uses today do not.

Anyway, it sucks that console users use bullshots to hype up a game even when they know the truth, just so they can get a bunch of people to agree that the 360/PS3 is the better system because of a a particular game's shots have AA, bloom or whatever. I mean just know another guy posted this

Man didn't even know it when I posted earlier but theres a Geow3 bullshot thread going rampid right now lol. Epic and lemmings at it again lol.

The only one that ever bothered me was when the Godfather was announced...the screens I saw were gorgeous, and when I played the game for myself, all I could say was "WTF is this?" DethSkematik

Well, we have to draw the line. Nobody will do that for us. And if this goes on it will eventually affect gamers too. They're not just going to stop for no good reason. At some point reviews and boxart will also imply and show things that aren't part of the actual game.
It's not like their ethics will stop them from doing so, or so. And even if there are rules to stop things, those rules only work for some time until they are circumvented to make more money.

That is reality. At some point we will have to draw the line somehow.

Definition of the word bullshot: A screenshot of a video game that is complete bull****. Put the 2 together, and you get bullshot.

It's all a matter of accepting that the usage of touched up screens is the norm and then setting realistic expectations for yourself. The level of pixel counting that goes on these days is ridiculous. I see even the most beautiful of games getting picked apart by the fanboys. Which only serves to prove that the real problem here is unrealistic expectations.

My nephew actually thought this was a photo at first glance. It didn't look like it to me. But, it's ingame. Right click to see full size.
