In an interview with develop magazine, Bungie studio manager Harold Ryan talks more in depth about the Microsoft / Bungie split and confirms that they are working various new projects including a brand new IP.

Ryan told develop magazine that the studio is working on numerous projects at once (seeing that their team has over 100 employees) including Halo 3 downloadable content, other Halo projects (MMO?) and a new IP in the prototype stage. "We kept that [new IP] prototype running throughout the development of Halo 3 and now we have a creative team which feels like they own that". What could the mysterious new IP be and how will it fit in with their Halo and Microsoft Game Studios agendas? Only years of time will tell, but our confidence in Bungie has never been higher. Full interview can be read after the jump.

Yes, and they also did Marathon. Those games weren't mass-market sellers like Halo is. That's what I'm saying... Bungie is in no way competing with teams like Bioware yet. They need more than one good franchise.

Not being a mass market seller =/= bad game. Psychonauts is a prime example of that.

Based on that, Bungie already has more than one good franchise.

In the eyes of the gaming world though, both Myth and Marathon were as big as Halo in terms of appeal and renown. Just not as big in sales. Possibly because they were on the Mac (for the most part, and I'm not sure if that makes any difference at all)

I think they said something about their next game not being a FPS.

With that said I'd like to see them make an RPG.

So Bungie is doing Halo 3 DLC, the Peter Jackson Project, and a new IP all at once...damn.Bansheesdie

thats really not all that much.... Other studios do a LOT more than them. Heck, even Blizzard who typically focuses on one project at a time has 4 Games in development... The Lich King Expansion, Starcraft 2 and then two other mysterious games, one of which is a new IP but the other isn't. Diablo 3 may just be in the works.... That is unless they have another Warcraft game....

Speaking of Oni, Bungie loves that game. They love how the combat turned out and enjoyed making it. And in there most recent podcast discussed how much they would enjoy making another.

Here is a fact about Oni, only Bungie West (back when Bungie was two companies one in the western US and one in the eastern US) worked on Oni and they were rushed to an EXTREME degree when making it.

Bungie only had 45 employees when they made Halo 1, this is a lot of work since they really haven't had multiprojects and still down't have that many people (over 100).

Can't wait to see the true Bungie w/oa household name game and a huge financial backer now that it isn't the 90s. I'm well prepared to get flamed for this, but I just didn't see anything but mediocre quality with Halo 2 & 3. On-line has balancing issues, admitted bad net code for Halo 2 and the graphics (I'm really not a graphics whore) wouldn't have held up on any other game. Any original IP or A/AA series would have gotten a 7/10 for them. Sound is stellar though and the feel of weapons as well. Iwould really hope Bungie proves me wrong. I'm notrooting for a flop. Justskeptical.

blizzard has 100 people across 4 projects.... They have everyone piled onto Starcraft 2 and Lich King to finish them though and they will then pile on to the other games but they still have 4 seperate projects ATM. I'm just pointing out that you can't say that Blizzard is an enormous company. Bungie isn't unique in trying to broaden their horizons. Other companies like Crytek, Bioware, andidare also on that path. Now Bioware and Crytek are much larger companies but Crytek has 4 projects across 200 people and three studios. Bioware is in a similar place with 3 projects, 200 people and two studios. id is working on 2 projects right now with two seperate teams of about 70 for RAGE and25 for Quake Zero(training project for their new team) in addition to their cooperation with Raven and Splash damage on the other games. I'm glad Bungie is expanding though. Halo has never been my thing but I do see their potential to make an absolutely amazing game. They could try to add some really innovative stuff to this new project too.

As a devout Halo and Bungie fan, I couldn't agree with you more. If we get real lucky maybe Bungie will forgo some of their flaws in game design, repetition and backtracking being the most prevalent.

you can't seriously consider the Halo DLC a fullblown game... Also, thePeter Jackson project isn't even a fullblown Bungie game, its just overlooked by Bungie because it's their IP. It's more like half a game. just wanted to point that out. Having 4 high budget, mass market games however, is a LOT more.

It's time to let Halo go Bungie. New IP's are great. How about an Oni sequal ;) Or just something entirely new.

I was referring to the quality of their previous 2 games in general. I forgot to be superbly detailed since it's System Wars, though.

Well aslong as it aint another halo, that is great because halo 3 is getting kind of boring now days. Hope they try an do something new besides shooters like naughty dog has done with uncharted showing they can also make other AAA titles. :)

no i'm pretty sure more than half the casual halo population will buy it as soon as the word gets around that "the people that made halo are making another game"

i hope it really sucks. then we'll see stupid casual ***** shut up about how bungie is awesome when they've never touched a videogame in their life before halo 3

Hasn't Halo 3 sold like 7 million copies? That's over half the consoles sold.

You obviously don't play video games with people who don't post here.

Every single person i know with a 360 (well, the 2 of them), only play Halo 3 now, say gears of war is "pretty good, but harder than halo 3... i like halo better", and had/havenever heard of Mass Effect.

ROFL i actually asked this friend of my friend who has a 360 if he's gonna get Mass Effect and he's all "what's that?"... and im like, "dude it's the sickest RPG coming out for 360, it's a pretty big title". And he said "oh man, that's bad marketing, Halo just came out!"

AHahaahAHAHAhaha i swear to god he said that.
