Looks like times are tough at Bungie. I wonder with their latest expansion being underwhelming has anything to do with it. Sounds like Sony is trimming the herd already 😳

What say you fellow SW friends? Are you concerned?

Just a sign of the times right now but I hope that those who have been concerned about things like this aren’t too worried right now. 😅

Bungie is one of the most successful developers around...

Sucks for those out of a job, though.

Bungie will bounce back, but I still wish Microsoft bought them years before. Halo hasn’t been the same without them.

It definitely sucks. I'm just surprised by the lack of concerned citizens in this thread.

Honestly it is best to be a freelance developer or consultant. The games industry and tech sector at large is becoming highly variable.

Maybe Microsoft should hire some of them to replace the 343 staff they let go.

So they will have no benefits, insurance or security etc etc? What they actually need are unions and better labor rights.

Not really concerned until we know more. The one person that we know of is an associate level employee and we don't know from what department. It could have literally been 5 people. I'm curious if there are major layoffs happening at bungie though since Sony paid $1 billion extra to retain talent at the studio.

Yup, creatives really need to unionize. It's worked out fairly well for show and movie writers; no reason it can't work for programmers, designers, concept artists, and so on.

It's so moronic to spend billions aquiring companies only to lay off staff. Why not just spend a fraction of the takeover price to open new studios that can slurp up all the talent in this employer centered job market we are currently in.

it's tough in tech at the minute. layoffs happening everywhere from big tech to small tech, across every sector. security roles seems to be the safest, for now.

This is the start of the foreclosure Sony claimed would happen when MS bought ABK.

I guess... I mean... All I know is Bungie was intact before Sony bought them.

Hmmm... What could this possibly mean...

Hope she finds other employment to fit her skill set. We don't know what her role was nor do we know the extent of the cut backs to employees at Bungie. With only this, it's difficult to access what impact this could actually have on Bungie as a Studio, if any at all.

Sony is taking food out of their employees mouths, yet can burn up a huge chunk of their cash reserves on frivolous purchases just to keep a smaller rival down.🤔

Layoffs suck. But so does Destiny right now. They are happening all over Tech right now. But I did some searching on social media for “Bungie layoffs,” and didn’t find anything other than the tweet in the OP. I see plenty of Xbox Twitter folks referencing “mass layoffs at PlayStation owned Bungie,” but only see this one employee saying they will be let go next week.

I wish her and those impacted the best of luck in the future.

Layoffs are never good. I wonder if it’s going to impact their game output? Oh wait, they aren’t an MS studio so there are no concerns lol

How can this possibly be related to MS. It would be very odd to connect it to MS...😉

This single person's story is doing a lot of heavy lifting for this thread's premise.

It's unfortunate for this young woman, but people get laid off all the time. I'm not sure a single layoff is evidence of "layoffs" (plural), a pattern, or otherwise some broader layoff event happening at Bungie.

Let's hold the wild speculation until there is actual confirmation that something other than a few people in a company of hundreds were laid off.

Presumably part of the wider tech cutbacks following the covid era growth surge, unfortunate for the people impacted but it seems to be the norm for the wider tech industry currently.

Microsoft lays off 10,000 employees. Bungee lays off 1. And Lems are trying to compare the two.

These Lem revenge threads are funny. We don't know the scale of the reduction. I know it's nowhere near the level of of the 10,000 they let go at MS including Xbox employees all while trying to score a 70 billion dollar acquisition, on top of key people bailing on 343. Of course "not a good look" doesn't exist in the Xbox fan vernacular

I hope those that are leaving Bungie are going over to work for 343 to help make the next Halo.
