Sorry if this is old. Looks like the split is going to be announced on the 6th.

http://www.dailytech.com/Report+Bungie+Studios+Departing+From+Microsoft/article9139.htm

"Apparently MS just wants Bungie to make Halo for the rest of their natural days, and Bungie doesn't like how MS is constantly trying to "handle" everything they do; the way they market their games, the way they interact with their fans (basically the fact that they do appreciate their fans), and how stingie [sic] they are with the profits (comparable to the rest of the industry). So as of today they are their own independent entity."

Bo**ocks Bungie don't care about the fanbase if they did they'd stick with it and release new content, if they split it's unlikely to happen.

Get your shield. Hold it high my friend.

It has been debunked quite a bit. But evidence is mounting.

Well I for one congratulate Bungie on freeing themselves from the slavery of the heartless Microsoft empire.

How is evidence mounting when all of this is spouting from one blog?

I don't think teamxbox would just make up the fact that they have sources to continue to perpetuate this "rumour".

Yeah, that's true, but in order to retain the talent Microsoft probably offered to sell their interest in the company back to them. If they didn't, the talent probably would have left Bungie to start another studio. Microsoft would then have a game company that is rudderless and without the talent that made it successful.

By selling the interest in the company, Microsoft still has access to that talent, still owns the Halo franchise, and has rights to publish all of Bungie's future titles. They get all the really important stuff while still maintaining a working relationship with them. Bungie gets more creative freedom and they don't have to answer to Microsoft for anything.

Until an official announcement is made by either company, it is still technically a rumor, like it or not.

It's still a rumor but if it turns out to be true, it would be one of the most pointless things that I could think off. So they are no longer owned by MS but MS will be their publishers exclusively. The only thing is that MS wont be able to boss them around anymore (don't know how much bossing around they did but it must have been enough to make them want out) which is a good thing.

The only thing certain right now is that the door locks on Bungie's offices in Kirkland, WA have all been changed perhaps as a sign of a change in ownership.

You can have all the evidence you want, doesn't make it official yet. I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but I'm not going to say it has either.

I agree. Lots of people will think "Does this mean Halo could come to Playstation?!?!" but Microsoft will retain all rights to Halo (meaning, they will own the Halo IP) and will have the right to publish all of Bungie's future titles.

I think you're confusing "evidence" with "exposure." Have any of these articles mentioned confirmation with their own independent sources?

1. We don't know this. Their original deal could have been a 6 year deal or whatever.

2. If Bungie wants to leave the nazis, they will leave 1 way or the other. MS could just be letting them go so they will continue to make games for their console, multiplat or not, because they could always face a mass employee turnover if they won't give them the freedom they want. And then MS would be left with another Rare.

I could go onto my GS user blog and say i have a friend of a friend who works for Konami who said that they are being bought out by Konami and it would be just as credible as the blog.

Do you guys honestly think that sites like TEAMXBOX would be posting this rumour if it hadn't been for one blog poster who is currentl laughing himself to death with the furore he has caused all over the internetz

Where has this been debunked? This isn't like Kojima coming out and saying MGS4 would never be on the 360. We haven't seen anything from MS or Bungie denying this. And no, typical PR "We have no announcement at this time" does not = denial.

Yes, we do know this. This is what happens when one company acquires another company - they buy all the interest, or shares, in that company and they end up becoming the owners wholly. There was no contract. Microsoft bought Bungie back in 2000 and they have had complete control over it ever since. It is not even worth arguing about.

People need to READ.

1. This is still just a rumor

2. Even if it's not a rumor, Bungie just bought their NAME back, not the STUDIO. So M$ still owns Bungie Studios and the property they have released. By Bungie getting their name back, they are allowed to publish their own games instead of having M$ publish them. Because M$ still owns the studio they have to get permission from M$ to publish games on other platforms. Bungie can now make new IP's, but they will still most likely be exclusive to XBox 360.

3. M$ still owns Halo and could easy higher new staff members to keep making Halo games.

There is no deal, MS fully owns them. If the rumor turns out to be true Bungie games would still be exclusive.

Or, you know, by using it in the way its used quite often in our culture describing a regime that stifles creativity and is overly restricting on the people under it. I could say that FDR was Hitleresque in his infustructure policy, while not implying he was a massmurdering racist.

It doesn't equal FACT either. That fact that neither Bungie or Microsoft have made any announcement that this is true means it all just a RUMOR at this point.

Actually I believe the rumor goes like this. MS no longer owns them at all, but MS has the rights to publish all their games (every last one) they just can't tell them what game they are going to make.

The same thing happened with MGS4. Kojima didn't confirm anything until the rumors had been spreading for weeks. I fail to see how this is any different.
