This is big news Bungie/FPS/360 fans! This is the game that everyone ignores so they can say Bungie is a one-franchise developer, and it's run in 720p!

Link to article

ONLINE CO-OP FOR UP TO 8 PLAYERS - CONFIRMED!!!

This is actually the sequel to the first Bungie game, Marathon, which released on Macs only. It tells in the article why they choose to release this game instead. This game also arguably has the best story of any FPS ever, and that's not the Bungie fan in me saying that, it's the gamer in me. Most any hermit who has played these games would agree that the story is phenomenal. Trust me this game will be well worth a few MS points, especially since it's impossible to find(...as a hard copy).

Dual Wielding? Pffftt, this game was the FIRST, and you could dual wield SHOTGUNS:twisted:

Um, Marathon 2 can be downloaded as freeware from Bungie themselves. It's not hard to find.

But you won't be playing it like that total conversion, so I'll be getting it and playing it all over again :D

As for what Marathon is, it is one of the best FPSs ever made. It was better than Doom in almost every way. Only thing was that it was on a Mac. And no one had a Mac to play it on :(

No you can look up and down. I don't think it matters for killing things though.

I played and greatly enjoyed the original and the announcement that it was coming to XBL at E3 was the best thing about the show (I hadn't heard about it beforehand). And holy crap @ the graphics. They did a great job in updating it, it seems.

Well yeah you can download via Freeware but this version seems far superior to the original release. The impressive graphical enhancements alone are worth it.:D

Oh, and I meant it's hard to find a hard copy. I collect games so I'm still getting used to digital distribution.:P

Survival is a brand spanking new mode for Single Player Marathon, give us the scoop! What is it?

Survival is a giant truck that pulls up to your house one day, where a platoon of alien commandos jump out, kidnap you, and wail on you until you're dead. And then the truck explodes, just to make sure the job gets done.

Awesome

To understand everything there is to know about the story, yes (Sorry Spartan).

Shouldn't detract you from buying this though.

Perhaps you could read a summary on the first Marathon. But I'm telling you, it's much more fun to play it.

Actually you can download High res packs for the textures and the environment for all 3 marathon games (which were all released for free under GPL) Just go to the Aleph One website, download the binaries, and compile the games from scratch. Sure beats paying 10 bucks or whatever for just one game in the series. edit: plus you get mods and mouse look. With everything you get from Aleph One, its hard to argue that the ($10?) XBLA release is better with its additional Survival mode or whatever.

It's something that's never been widely praised...in Doom's day an action game was what people wanted.

Doom is surprisingly theory-friendly, though, and though the story was very shallow, as you went along you could tell that the situation gets worse (in the original at least). Theorizing about Doom is something I've done before but the overallfanbase hasn't really accepted the idea.

I guess I just don't like to spend my money superfluously. That is, as long as you don't consider videogames to be superfluous.

I already have the high res texture packs.

But it's no complete conversion like this one is. This is the real 3D deal guys.

ManI never got into FPSs a long time ago. Hell, even my casual friends played Doom and its sequel to death. They can even still remember the cheat codes. I feel so embarassed :(

I only played Marathon very recently (as in, not in the mid 90s), and I have to say, the atmosphere and story are pretty damn impressive. Also, Bungie trumped id Software technology wise :D.

If it was on a Mac, it probably would never have been heard of.... Or everyone would have bought a Mac since Marathon and Doom were revolutionary shooters

No you can look up and down. I don't think it matters for killing things though.

Actually, Marathon wasn't like Doom. You ahve to aim up to shoot upwards. Made the game feel less cheap.

The reason this is superior to Aleph One, and any other high rez texture pack out there, is because this is TRUE 3D. In the original, what you're looking at is actually an optical illusion, designed to LOOK like it was 3D. Bungie did some pretty ingenious things with the engine. And yes, this is easily (IMO) the best storyline of any FPS in the history of gaming. Granted, I don't know ever storyline ever created, but I can say this- I love this one. It's so in depth. For all you Marathon folks out there who have already played through the game, check the spoiler to remember the good o'l days. For those of you who haven't, don't read the spoiler!! Play the game, and then check the spoiler afterwards to catch up on anything you may have missed.
http://marathon.bungie.org/story/
I hope we get all three games eventually. It would really make my century :)

I guess they're bitter because EGM gets all the Halo 3 coverage, not them.

No but seriously, Marathon 2, the original at least, was fantastic game.
