It depends on how much you need to spend to upgrade. If its just the video card go with the PC. If you need to do anymore upgrading just go with the PS3.

Just bought an 8600 GT 256 MB for $80...

I also want to add that I'm playing games on my PC that came out in 2003....a lot of them. Still.

http://www.moddb.com will help in the long haul

$50 games+infinite customizability through mods and user-created content=winnage

You will never get more value out of games on any platform....the PS3 has made HUGE strides in that department, but on the whole, consoles suffer dramatically worse in terms of game value propositions versus the PC.

Trust me....I own a PS3. It's not all that it could be.

Oh, that's true. On the plus side of PS3, Blu Ray is awesome.

If you have a 1080p TV, the answer is UMYEAHBUYITNOW because Blu Rays look astonishing in 1080p.

Don't buy them though. Sign up for Netflix. It's a $15 a mo service for 3 DVDs a month....the great thing about it is that you can upgrade to Blu Ray for free....that's 3 Blu Rays at a time....A single Blu Ray at retail costs roughly the same to twice that much.

Also, Warhawk, Resistance, Ratchet, and Uncharted are great games and there's always Echochrome, MGS4, Little Big Planet, GT5, FFXIII.

If any of those appeal to you, go for it (as long as you have an HD set or HD-capable monitor with PS3-potential hookups).

Otherwise, I'm gonna say PC all the way. Best gaming platform I've yet encountered.

Why, at this point in time, would you buy a computer with such average specs? Sure, it's quite powerful, but you may as well buy 4GB of RAM, a Quad Core and an 8800GTX. It really isn't very much compared to a year ago. Dell are selling a PC of those specs for only $2000NZD, which is only around $1000USD.

I actually had to choose between the two several months earlier and I chose the PS3. But then again, my computer is so old that I would need more of an overhaul than an upgrade in order to get things up to spec. In the end, I decided that my computer can wait for the time being until the price of quad cores goes down and better GPUs are on the market.

I'd go with the PS3 only if your upgrades would cost less than the console.

upgrade teh pc. you can get a 8800gtx for 289.99 from teh egg and buy a lite blue ray drive for the pc for 139.99 on teh egg. Or smarter move would be a 8800 gts 512mb for 189.99-210.99 range and save some cash.

I agree.

Agreed as well. I upgraded my PC a few months ago with 2GB DDR RAM, 500 Watt power supply, a new graphics card (dont know which off hand but it was just under top of the line), and a couple of extra case fans because of the graphics card causing too much heat. This cost me over $400. So, it just depends on a) how out of date your computer is and b) how far you want to go with the upgrade. In general, consoles are cheaper than a gaming PC that can stay current for a few years. Even after my upgrades, I expect that in a couple of years I might have to do another go around. In fact, since I dont have a multi-core processor, I might have to eventually get a totally new machine for the most recent games.

For around $200 (8800GT video card alone) - $1000 (completely new high-end PC), you can get an upgrade and have access to 90 AAA/AA games, of which 60 are exclusive. And even more coming up, because the PC's current 2008 library is looking larger and better than the PS3s. That's over 15 times as many current exclusives as the PS3 for only 2.5x the cost at most.

Multiplats that will trounce the console versions not only in visuals but control options and user made content.

Not to mention there is already a massive catalouge of games on PC anyway, with huge titles like Spore and StarCraft 2 on the horizon.

With, my 360 continuely getting RROD to the point where i can pretty much care less for it and the wii not being able to satfiy online play at all. Ive decided its time to put some money into getting something new. I wanna etheir upgrade my PC or buy a ps3. i frequently play Counter strike source and Battlefield 2 and i used to play alot of rts and **** so that kind of makes me wanna get back into pc gaming and play the latest games instead of the older ones. Though, on the other hand i was a big ps2 fan awell last gen Ps3 seems to have a great lineup and will be worth it for years to come as im worried about the PC that if i upgrade ill just have to do it again soon.

SaintJimmmy

if i were you i would get the ps3, only because: you like counter strike, unfortunetly their arnt making any new one of those (i think). and you like battlefield 2 - because of what you said about your 360, battlefield bad company is coming out only, so far to consoles - so you will be able to play that. and end war (an rts) is comin to all of 3 of them. so either way reason fo the pc or ps3 i guess. hmmm...i wud sell that ps2 to somebody and get some good cash out of it, i dont mean go sell it for the price of like one game or something...i wud try and get the most out of it and even MORE. that way i cud start savin up or give me an extra cash boost for my nxt purchase whether a game, pc upgrades or put it towards a ps3. and yes u will hav to upgrade ur pc again, maybe even soon if u want to keep up with wats going on. nxt year or the year afta that wud be to soon for ME.

thats what i would do, and im sorry if it sounds like im trying to persuade you - i just realised it does, but im not trying to do that. :) i was trying to give facts.

Depends on how upgradable your PC is or how much your willing to spend, we need to know this otherwise theres no point in this discussion, but "Pending" aside ...

1) DO NOT buy into the Blu Ray Hype, it does nothing for games, and quite frankly your not missing anything AMAZING in the movie department, ofcourse its better quality, but its nowhere near the VHS to DVD jump ... hardly worth deciding a system for.

2) The PC has alot more games.

3) The PS3 will prey on nostalgi, by continue MGS 4 , Tekken 6 ,FF13 , GT5 , but ask yourself ... if you alreayd have friends with PS3's would any of these games be worth the price? couldnt you jsut play them at a friends ... MGS 4 will be short, and pffft I dont believe anything cows say on ONLINE if they think SOCOM is good.

4) Superior AND cheaper multiplats on PC with Mod support & better online.

So while i make my decisons id like to hear some gamespotters opinons on it =]

mgs_freak91

if i were you i would get the ps3, only because: you like counter strike, unfortunetly their arnt making any new one of those (i think). and you like battlefield 2 - because of what you said about your 360, battlefield bad company is coming out only, so far to consoles - so you will be able to play that. and end war (an rts) is comin to all of 3 of them. so either way reason fo the pc or ps3 i guess. hmmm...i wud sell that ps2 to somebody and get some good cash out of it, i dont mean go sell it for the price of like one game or something...i wud try and get the most out of it and even MORE. that way i cud start savin up or give me an extra cash boost for my nxt purchase whether a game, pc upgrades or put it towards a ps3. and yes u will hav to upgrade ur pc again, maybe even soon if u want to keep up with wats going on. nxt year or the year afta that wud be to soon for ME.

thats what i would do, and im sorry if it sounds like im trying to persuade you - i just realised it does, but im not trying to do that. :) i was trying to give facts.

1) Battlefield: Bad Company is trash, it doesnt even play like Battlefields, and this is honest from my Beta experiance this week ... its a broken Call of Duty clone.

2) There is a second Counter-Strike coming.

3) Battlefield 3 ( Same engine as Battlefield Bad company.. ) 80 players online ... Battalations / Squads and MMO level character custimization ... the True battlefield 3 is coming and has been announced so.

Get a PC,

but get a good graphics card. get a minimum of a 8800GT 512mb. I expect this card to last a long time. As it can play crysis on high and flight sim x as well. And no game coming out is going to match these 2 games for a long time.

Really it depends on the games you like. And how you like to play. If you prefer a controller and really want the few PS3 exclusives then get a PS3.

On the other hand you like the choice of using a controller and mouse and keyboard then get a PC. Also most of the multiplatform games i played on the PC work well. Hell even the Club plays well. Though best you a controller for that game.

At the end of the day your PC can be considered a high spec console, with a big choice of games.

And PC games are cheaper.

lawl, the pc has 15 times the number of high quality exclusives compared to the ps3. on top of that it has many superior multiplats like the orange box that should only be played on the pc. the choice is simple really.

Get a PS3. Its well worth it, bluray still amazes me with each new video.

upgrade your pc when a card can do crysis at very high and 60 fps.
