Get a regular HD tv... these new ones are a bit strange.. the one in the living room of this house is huge but it's a piece of crap... it's brand name is phillips so i'm warning you don't get a phillips.... it's worse than lags it's frame rate drops to 0 ( it freezes lawl ) and it has to load when you turn it on.

having something to do with gaming and systems does not make it a system wars topic. we have hardware forums for a reason.

Well, you were a good mod :), I prefer you to a certain other I wont mention.
CRT's for the win. I'll happily keep trooping with my fw900 till the day it dies...then il try(and struggle) to find another :( While we're on the topic, what IS the ultimate crt television?...Ive never really looked into it.kidcool189trinitron's are nice although hard to come by. typically the newer the tv the better since the tubes will be not nearly as used/worn but those are going to be harder to come by. my buddy has a trinitron that me and some friends play smash on all the time.
for my setup I just use a CRT - 19" NEC ClearFlat MultiSync FE990. The colors don't distort when I tate the monitor for shmups, and it's perfect for quake/TFC, fighters and so fourth.
CRT monitors are very easy to come by. I bought mine for 20 dollars and then 3 weeks later I saw someone left one on the curb...sounds dirty but I snagged it and it worked perfectly so it's my backup...it has a round screen though so it's not nearly as awesome as my NEC.

Isn't that 16 milliseconds of lag?
16 is not really not noticeable.... At least not for regular people, only a quake/unreal tournament pro player would be able to be affected by 16ms of lag. 16ms of lag = 1 frame of lag I believe. If you want a TV with low inout lag your best bet would be the Panasonic ST30. If you dont want 16ms of lag a monitor would be your next best thing.
This one right here has 1.7ms of input lag, but its only 23"

you don't need to be a quake pro to notice the difference in bunnyhopping/rocket jumping timing between a CRT and LCD with 2ms.16 is not really not noticeable.... I have a 1080p 2ms 24" Asus too, the unfortunate thing is that I didn't want to spend an insane amount of money to get a 120hz monitor so I get some screen tearing from time to time...but with PC gaming vsync fixes that right up. Then again my priorities are a bit different as I prefer performance > graphics and I typically play with vsync off. If I was a graphics whore I wouldn't be playing on a CRT in the first place.
Many TVs (Like the 52" Samsung i currently use) have a PC input, or have the ability to rename an input to PC, which eliminates post processing with little to no lag.
EDIT: just realized this was in the wrong forum

120hz monitors still have input lag ranging between 8-16. But I really dont see how anyone would notice it if they were not a competitive gamer.

You have to test for input lag, manufacturers dont provide you with that information. The 2ms Response Time is for how fast the screen updates the images on screen. Its not the same at all, people do get them confused all the time though.

true, but ghosting and distorted images doesn't really help. I also realize there is next-to-no relationship between the two - tho ghosting might be a contributing factor, but I believe it's affects a person's perception/accuracy and it's just another element to get in the way of a 1:1 experience. a 0ms 0 input lag display would be ideal - something a CRT monitor would provide.he wants something that has no input lag - every hdtv/lcd has it.
do you game on an HDTV?i have yet to see lag in any tv..might be your cables?

mechanics you've gotten used to on lcds/hdtvs become even easier, or it messes up your timing if you're used to a CRT and you make the switch. it makes bunnyhopping in TFC/quake easier, it makes wavedashing in super smash bros melee easier, it makes split second dodging bullet curtains in danmakus easier, it makes executing combos in fighters easier and so fourth. If you don't really play many twitch gameplay based games it's not noticeable and more than likely it won't affect you.
