Looking to take a break from my competitive-like PC gaming and buy an Xbox 360 or PS3 for casual play with friends. I'm probably going to buy the system used. What does everyone here suggest, and why? I want supporting facts, thanks.style-conscious
Hehe. Good luck.
If you are looking for competitive gaming on a console then I would probably go with the 360. It seems they have a larger community focused on that sort of thing. Personally, I use my PS3 more. It is hard to beat for an all-in-one media/gaming center. I use it almost every day for streaming and netflix. 360 used games are cheaper in general, so that may play into your decision. Overall, I believe the PS3 to be a more solid system stability and user-interface wise. But the 360 offers more for the pure gamer IMO.
I'm also going to be on a tight budget, so I'm considering the one that's cheaper. So far, it looks as if the Xbox 360 is generally cheaper, but I am almost convinced that the PS3 would be a way better investment. To me, it seems as if the Xbox is a rigid corvette, and the PS3 is a sleek Audi R8.style-conscious
Both are good investments imo, but since you have that in mind, it all depends on what you consider best for your money.
Well what system do you have more friends on? Or better friends? PS3 for me kinda sucks in that regard. I have less friends on PS3 and they aren't that cool tbh lol.
360 makes it easier to "casually" chill with friends because you have party chat, bad news is you have to pay for XBL.
I'm a PC / PS3 gamer. To me PS3 makes the most sense. It's got the best exclusives due to Sonys first party studios constantly cranking out games. 360 shares way too many games with the PC and they are going to be better and significantly cheaper on your PC. Plus I'm not paying to play games online.
It really comes down to games. I think the PS3 is a better system overall. It seems to be far more reliable (although the new 360 might have improved things), has blu-ray, less proprietary garbage (harddrive, mic and so on), and free online. But if you want to play Halo and Forza, obviously 360 is your thing. I much prefer Uncharted, God of War, Infamous, MGS4, and much more. I have owned both systems and sold my 360 which was freezing all the time and red ringd after a year. My PS3 is 2 years old and going strong. That said, everyone has different luck and I know people who have had both fail. To be fair I do not know how any of them treated their systems lol.
Oh and as someone said above, like you, I own a PC, which makes a PS3 an even more sensible option IMO. The 360 shares a lot of games and just is not worth it if you have PC. Again, unless you love Halo, Forza and Gears. Or Kinect ;).
You're buying used so you are obviously price consious, 360 charges for online, and it's used models are far less reliable then ps3s, add to that the upcomming list of ps3 gameshttp://www.gametrailers.com/users/Dragun619/gamepad/?action=viewblog&id=514597and the choice becomes obvious
the 360 has been my fav this gen but at this late in the game date if i had to do it over again i would get a ps3 and just wait for the nextbox to come out and get it at launch.
as far as paying for live it always seemed to me like ms charges you cash to play online while sony charges you in time since the service is a bit hit or miss and you tend to sit around for a half hour for many games waiting for manditory installs and forever long download patches.
pick your poision, money or time.
if you dont have much cash to spend on games, you should get a 360.northcarolina29
not only do you bump an old thread but your post is filled with lies?!
welcome to system wars, you'll fit in nicely :P
Or better yet go with the console that your friends play with the most!If you are looking for competitive gaming on a console then I would probably go with the 360. It seems they have a larger community focused on that sort of thing.

well, the deciding factor for me would be the exclusives. you could use wikipedia or the GS spreadsheet to see for yourself. of course, there are still 9 or so more PS3 exclusives set for this year, so wikipedia will let you see what is coming up
im not going to lie. I think the PS3 exclusives are far better than then the 360 ones. the 360 exclusives that have stuck out to me as some of the great games of this gen are
gears 2
crackdown
castlevania harmony of despair
fable 2
alan wake
forza 3
I have heard that infinite undiscovery and lost oddessey were great JRPGs. I cant verify that though
the rest I personally dont think are worthwhile
halo this gen has been overrated
fable 3 was a dissapointment
dead rising is now obsolete due to "dead rising 2"
"banjoe" "conker" and "perfect dark zero"......... just....... no
but hey, theres gears 4 and forza 4 coming out
-----------------------
with the PS3 you have
uncharted 1
uncharted 2
MGS4
God of war 3
heavy rain
motorstorm apocolypse
resistance fall of man
resistance 2 (much superior to the first game)
the PS3 "ratchet and clank" trilogy (soon to be a quadrilogy). this includes "tools of destruction" "quest for booty" "a crack in time"
the collections. which now are "god of war" "team Ico" "sly cooper" "tomb raider" "splinter cell" and "prince of persia"
killzone 2
killzone 3
little big planet 1
little big planet 2
MAG (dont beleive the hate)
infamous
plus all the other games coming out this year like resistance 3, twisted metal, infamous 2, and uncharted 3.
--------------------------------
in my eyes, there is no comparison between the exclusives of the consoles.
