BWii VS. Halo 3 - What is Nintendo Smokin?

No, this isn`t a screenshot thread. I think we all know and understand that the 360 game will look better than the Wii one,

What I am wondering is who is the fool at NoA that decided to release BWii during the same week as Halo 3, a game that will not only sell millions (and a fair chunk of 360 consoles) in it`s first day or two, but keep said millions glued to Xbox Live for a few months?

Do they think Wii owners without a 360 will turn to it by default saying ``I like shooters too`` ?

I`m not trying to bash anyone really, I`m just failing to see why Nintendo would release one of their First-Party published games at a time when it`s destined to be buried under one of the biggest releases this year...

I never really liked Batallion Wars at all and wasn`t going to buy BWii anyways, but I know it`s a title that many were looking forward too.M

I`m in a position to buy 2-3 games a week if I want to, but I know most people aren`t. Most people have to make choices, and given the choice, I`d bet that most people would choose Halo 3.

Maybe Nintendo`s trying to bank on the fact that they have a pretty good install base with Wii, but I`m not sure BWii has the kind of appeal that will sell big numbers to Wii fans like Super Paper Mario or Cooking Mama.

A week on either side of September 24 would make much much more sense.

Bwii is going to be awesome. It's interesting that Nintendo would release it the same week as Halo 3. Lol it might be to attempt to challenge Halo's online with BWii online :lol:. But even so from what I've heard, BWii's online is looking to be pretty cool.

It shows the online modes that it'll have. A short excerpt:

• Skirmish: Tactical depth
• Co-op: Work with friends

Nintendo probably wants to introduce a new online shooter/RTS while everyone's in the mood.

I don't think that Nintendo was really trying to compete with Halo on this one. They are just releasing BWii on their own time schedule, competition be damned. Could they have picked a better date? Sure, but it won't kill the game. I'm more worried on how online will play. Any news from the front on that? I heard rumors of Mii specific friend-codes. (Still annoying, but better if true.) Besides its a First-Person RTS not a shooter.

As for what they are smoking... certainly can't be worse than what the guys over at SONY are huffin'.

 I think it's more, They don't care what they are doing. They are making so much money and selling so many Wii's im sure they don't really care all that much.

Well by the time both games release they'll probably be 1-2 million (or more) wiis out there then 360s... those people gotta play something...not everyone owns/wants a 360 or halo.VideoGameGuy

nintendo shouldn't fear Halo3 as you suggest.  Sure, halo3 is a bigger deal in the video game industry.  Releasing BWii will not prevent halo3 from being a success, but it will cut out some territory and will slow the attraction to Halo.  You say that its a stupid release becuase it's nintendo's shooter vs. microsoft's.  Believe it or not, a lot of people would prefer bwii to halo3.  Halo is FPS, with online coop battles.  BWii is a third person tactical shooter, where you move an entire battalion while you control an individual unit of your choice on the battlefield, also with online battles (co-op?).  But yeah, we get it, halo is 'cooler' than bwii. 

If bwii didn't release, then everyone would just buy halo automatically because it's the ONLY choice.  This may have been very delibrate move by nintendo, possibly exploiting the hype for halo3 for its own benefit.  It even got you TC to talk about the game.

They are obviously hoping to satisfy wii owners who will feel the hard green bug of envy the week Halo 3 arrives. They will buy this game hoping for some kind of similar experience....dissapointment will soon follow....along with more of that envy.

So you've played the game to know its going to be dissapointing?
Last time I checked Battalion Wars got a 8.3 and was great, and this one seems to be a big improvement, and it also has online.
So why don't you acutally play the game before you call it a dissapointment.

how is it a waste of money? i play games a good 45-60 hours a week. i`m on disability...it`s what i do.

I tend to buy most major releases yeah, but my wife`s a journalist as well, so we get copies of all sorts of crap.

I was surprised to see such a quick response by people in this thread. Alot of people seem to think that Wii owners only have Wii, but there`s lots and lots of us that have one or both ``next gen`` systems too.

As for buying a game when it releases, well that`s what helps alot franchises stay alive when they aren`t blockbusting titles. Just like the movie industry, a game`s first week or two of sales are crucial these days.

Battalion Wars is 3rd person, not 1st person, and its also a modern shooter/combat game. I loved the original BW game on the GC so I hope BW2 is just as fun and that the online is good. The game is kind of cheesey in character design, however its insanely fun to play and will no doubt be a great game. I also disliked the voice acting which was pretty lame as well, however the great gameplay makes up for that.

Nintendo needs to release something...Why not a so-so series? Why waste Mario or SSBB trying to go up against Halo. Its definitly taking a gamble. Look at the masscre of MGS3. Decided it was in the same league as GTA...Halo...WoW...Half Life. Hmm...LOL. Well it took a 20dollar price drop and a substance version to make up alot of those sales.  And even then it ended up about 40-50% less then MGS2/MGS

After playing Battlefield, Call of Duty, Enemy Teritorry, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, Brothers in Arms, Operation Flashpoint, Arma, Medal of Honor, Counter-Strike, and name every other possible shooter, It's actually pretty nice to see some form of shooter which doesn't strive to be realistic looking but more like a cartoony thing. Actually I'm pretty confident that I will pick BWii up, just because it's different.

because some people own both. in that instance a decision has to be made one or the other? but like people have stated you can get both, or at different times if both games appeal to you. if both were games were exclusive to the same system, then there'd be more of an issue.

I still wouldn't say it's as intense as Halo.. that's not really a bad thing. It's just a different kind of game. But it does look awesome. I'm definitely picking this up.
